Great small spreader
il y a 2 ans
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I missed the part about this being mini, but really it is perfect for my lawn. It fits the 18lb bags I use perfectly, with room to spare. When I was done with fertilizer I threw down humic that comes in a 40 lb bag, it probably fit 28-30lbs of the bag.
Application was easier with this than my previous Scott’s spreader, and the release actually closed when you let off the handle. It applied accurately and the guard was easy to use with just a quick flick of the foot to open or close it.
Assembly was a breeze, just attach the handle and roll on.
This was a great addition to my yard arsenal, and was a long overdue upgrade.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Scotts® Turf Builder® EdgeGuard® Mini Broadcast Spreader came pre-calibrated and fully assembled. All I needed to do was fold up the handle screws. When I was done, I fold down the handle and the spreader was easy to store and took up little room in my shed. The curved shape hopper is advertised to hold up to 5,000 sq ft of lawn product. I did not fill the hopper with that much product for my use. Furthermore, the design of the hopper and agitator allowed for smoother product funneling and consistent coverage. This is well made with durable material that will last many seasons if I clean it properly after each use.
I purchased the Speedy Green broadcast spreader 3 years ago. I only used it to apply moss control and lime until this spring. Abot two weeks after applying Turfbuilder Step 1. I could see dark green stripes in the grass. So I reapplied more turf builder in a perpendicular direction to the original thinking I did a bad job the first time. 2 weeks later and now I have dark green squares in my front yard. I did a test drop in a small area. I applied a bit of product on my driveway so I could see the distribution of the granuals better. I could see that the spreader was leaving a lot more product to the right side of the path . No wonder the lawn has stipes.

The Scott’s Broadcast Spreader helped save my lawn
il y a 2 ans
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently tried the Scotts Mini Broadcast Spreader, and wanted to let you know how well this worked! I moved into my home last spring, and the front yard was just patches of weeds with sparse grass. I bought the Scotts 3 in 1 Turff Buider for Southern lawn (kills weeds, fertilizes the grass, prevents regrowth of weeds) and with the help of this mini broadcast spreader, I am beginning to have the lawn of my dreams! This mini broadcast spreader delivered the product evenly and in the right quantity. I just walked back-and-forth about 7 feet apart, and the spreader did the rest! It was so easy, I can’t wait in till the next fertilizing session! Thank you, Scott’s!
I purchased Scott's 4-Step program earlier this Spring thinking it would be the perfect program for our lawn. After applying Step 1, I now have green streaks all over my lawn that appeared to be exactly where I had walked with my spreader!
Concerned that maybe it was the actual product itself, I did a bunch of research online and found out that this is an extremely common issue with the Scott's spreaders, especially the Edgeguard Mini. Essentially the rotary isn't above the hollow wheels, so as the product drops it gets stuck in the hollow of the wheels and leaves streaks all over your lawn!
Buyer Beware!!!!!!!
We apologize for your experience with our Scotts Edgeguard Mini spreader. We will be providing your feedback to our production team. We are more than happy to assist you further! Please reach out to us at https://tinyurl.com/y8nvfsca so we can work with you for a solution to your issue.

Doesn't spread evenly, doesn't spread the right amount
il y a 10 ans
I was spreading fertilizer last fall and had streaks of burnt grass because this spreader hadn't spread it evenly and had dumped heavily in areas. Even though I had it on the proper setting. Also this spring, I used scotts grass seed in it at the recommended setting and it also dumped the grass seed unevenly. So that I had to rake it out. I also believe that it spread the seed too heavily, because the bag of grass that was supposed to have covered over 1000 square feet only covered about 3/4 of 750 sqft. So I had to spend more on grass seed than I should have. I only hope that it didn't cause any major over seeding and cause my seedlings to die out from competition.
DésavantagesDidn't work as expected, spreads unevenly, doesn't spread accurately according to directions

Consumer Services
We apologize for the inconvenience that you have experienced with your Scotts spreader. We appreciate you letting us know, and we have alerted. It is through feedback from consumers such as you, Ms. Keeney, that we can continue to maintain the high quality products that Scotts consumers have come to expect.
We are also sorry that you did not get the proper coverage from your bag of grass seed and lawn food. The spreader setting you used was correct. There are a few things that can affect the flow rate.
-Have you recently checked the calibration on your spreader? Some spreaders can go out of calibration over time and should be checked periodically. You can check it for accuracy by setting the spreader to "4", then with the control lever pressed, you should be able to snuggly fit a 9/32" drill bit into the lower left corner of the opening inside the hopper. If this is off, you may need to inspect it for any broken parts. If you find broken parts, please let us know, we may be able to replace them
-Did you overlap properly? With broadcast spreaders, you want to overlap about 1 foot on each swath. Each pass should be around 4 feet apart. If you are not moving over enough between each pass an over appliation will occur. Based on your description of the issues you have encountered this would seem a probable culprit.
-Were you walking faster or slower than usual? Your walking pace will affect the rate of application.
We want you to be confident in our products. For this reason, we offer a product guarantee to our consumers. At your earliest convenience please contact us to see what can be done. You may visit our contact page by clicking on the following link http://tinyurl.com/7ag7a3n

Turf builder
il y a 2 ans
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Broadcast Spreader is great for people with smaller yards, or tight landscaping areas. It was really easy to assemble, in about five minutes, and is ready to use immediately after. The settings allow me to accurately set it for the preferred application. I use it to spread grass seed, fertilizer, and weed and feed. It holds up to 5,000 sq. ft. of product. The Edgeguard feature blocks off the right-side of the spreader pattern, which gives me better control near plant beddings, and areas where I don't wish to apply the product. Works great and makes things a lot easier in the yard.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Despite the smaller width then their other edgeguard model, the Mini Broadcast Spreader makes seeding a more enjoyable experience. You have slightly better control over the spread with the smaller volume spreader. EdgeGuard ensures you don't get seed in your bushes, or walkways. Less sweeping, less cleanup. I used to use a cardboard piece my son would hold up along the edges as I went by, but with this reliability of the EdgeGuard, I have no need to assistance anymore. If you have a larger lawn, then go with the full size EdgeGuard option, but for anything less than 1,000 sq feet, this is the perfect size spreader.
This spreader works okay with Scott's fertilizer, but it does make lines when going in one direction. I believe the wheels block some of the fertilizer from broadcasting. For this reason I cut the settings way down and go in multiple directions. Also it's impossible to find the application rate settings for other products when it's not listed on their bag, probably because different products have different size granules, but they could give an estimated lbs/1000sq ft based on their products.
P.S. I don't need an automated response to call a customer service number. I'll make it work until I buy a different one.
We are concerned to hear this. We would like the opportunity to gather some additional information and offer assistance. Please reach out to our Consumer Services team at 888-270-3714.

Much better than the old-time spreaders
il y a 7 ans
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was a bit skeptical at first because I have used a hand-held spreader for decades but I thought lets try it. I was pleasantly surprised in many ways. First the dial used is markedly larger than most others making changing it flawlessly easy. Second, the large capacity bowl and large tires saves tons of time over a hand held unit. I treat over 15K feet and this is way better. Third, the Edge Guard is seemingly new but does work. Someone should devise a unit that eliminates the striping of your lawn due to lack of overlap. As a left handed person having the squeeze control on the right is expected but having the option of moving it to the left would be nice. Great product!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We currently are using this Scotts® Turf Builder® EdgeGuard® Mini Broadcast Spreader to spread our snow melt and it is a LIFE SAVER! Instead of having to hand spread, the whole unit was ready to go so I simply loaded the snow melt into the spreader, adjusted the amount of melt I wanted to apply to my driveway and away I went! Took me next to no time and I didn't have the lines where more melt was applied like happens with hand spreading. There was an even and full covering of melt and I could apply more where needed with a turn of a knob. Can't wait to use it in the Spring with my Scotts Turf Builder products!
After first use, spreading Turf Builder plus2 Weed Control (15000 sq-ft bag) on my 14,000 sq-ft lawn, using the setting on the bag (3.25), I had an entire bucket of material (~5000 sq-ft) left over. So it seems the setting should be higher. I'll try 4.25 next time.
The narrow wheel based does make it "jumpy" if you have bumps in the yard -- I probably should have bought the larger DLX model.
Very happy with the other features -- wheels turn easily, good even spray, the right blocking feature works well and its easy to switch it on/off with your foot. Handle is sturdy and release lever is easy to activate.

Scott’s know it’s JUNK!!
il y a 8 mois
Ruin my lawn. Some of Scott’s products require the lawn to be wet or damp. The wheels are cheep hollow plastic pieces of crap. When they get damp or wet and what ever product you’re using clumps up all over the inside of the wheel. Eventually it falls off and causes wheel burns all over your lawn. My lawn is ruin. It’s burnt everywhere. Which is going to cause me to buy Scott’s grass seed to fix all the damage. So maybe that’s what they had in mind when they design this piece of crap. Double dipping isn’t that what it’s called. Not to mention when I want to include pictures of my bunt lawn it won’t let me!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This mini broadcast spreader is an excellent tool to spread seeds, fertilizer, and salts to melt ice during a snowstorm. I used it to weed and feed my lawn during springtime to promote grass growth and the removal of unwanted weeds. This spreader also comes with an important " Edgeguard " feature to prevent fertilizer from spilling over unwanted areas. An instruction manual for assembly is included and additional information can be found on all Scott's Miracle-Grow products for the number of applications to use. It is best to use gloves when applying any chemicals and wash your hands thoroughly afterward.
I have bought 2 of the spreaders, both have had the same problem. I returned the first one thinking it was a one time issue. I broadcasted lawn seed with the first one all the time thinking it was difficult to push. The second one had the same issue broadcasting fertilizer. I cleaned it after use etc, and discovered, the drive wheel drags requiring downward pressure to make the internal product distributor to turn. I have had the same problem with the second spreader I purchased, I'm returning it. I attempted to contact Scott's customer support for advice and was put on hold for a
half hour so gave up.

Small is Good
il y a 6 ans
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First, I have to admit that I love all Scott’s spreaders. Before acquiring the Mini Broadcast spreader, I already own a full size drop spreader (precision application) and a full size broadcast spreader(fast) I have had these spreaders for a very long time and they still apply at their original settings. Unfortunately, both were acquired before edgeguard was invented. The new mini broadcast spreader not only have edgeguard, but it is the perfect size for use around flower beds and other small places. It has been a great addition to my arsenal of spreaders. If you have a small yard (under 5k), it could be your only, unless you’re a lawn nut and want 100% precision coverage control.
The edgeguard feature gets in the way of normal spreading. Instead of a throwing a nice arc of fertilizer forward that is the same left to right, the right side of spreading gets clipped off by the retracted edgeguard. Why is this an issue? because you have to make a conscious effort to think about your overlaps....you don't get the same distance to the left and right of the machine for coverage.
When you put the edgeguard in action, it does restrict spread to the right, but when retracted it is just design very poorly so it does not get fully out of the way.
Planning to crack off the edgeguard so it spreads evenly.
Great example of a great idea executed poorly. Too cute x2.

An easy spreader to use
il y a 2 ans
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It was so very easy to put this spreader together. Only took a minute and no tools required. Once it was together we just filled it with our grass seed, put it on the setting we wanted it dispersed at with the dial at the back and then pushed it around the yard. It spreads it out at either a little at a time or a lot, depending on your preference with the dial setting. We also put in some pellet fertilizer and then spread it out over the yard. It spreads it pretty evenly so you don’t get too much or too little in one spot. Love it. Makes the work a whole lot easier for me. Easy to push also.
Longtime Scotts product owner - very disappointed with this spreader
il y a 8 ans
I just came inside after my almost new Scotts Edgeguard spreader broke. I've only used it twice. Very frustrating to say the least. Like others apparently, the shaft holding the distribution plate snapped on mine. I take care of my equipment and know what I'm doing in the yard. This was simply a case of a poorly made product. My expectation with a Scott product is it lasting a reasonable amount of time.....this particular spreader failed to do that. I did't read any reviews prior to making this purchase. Didn't think it was necessary because I've owned other Scott products and felt they were above average quality. Based on my experience my recommendation would be to avoid this spreader.

Small and compact.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I opened the box, I was surprised at how small, and light the product was. I very much like that the handle can be folded back down to save space in my crowded garage and repacked in its box between uses. All directions are clear and on the spreader for ease of use. Being mostly plastic, rust can't happen, and it can be rinsed off after use. Currently, I had used a handheld crank spreader, not liking how a drop spreader lacked control. This product changed my mind. Very easy to use, good control, and being so light, unused fertilizer can easily be poured back into the container. I liked it.

Great Spreader
il y a 2 ans
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a relatively small yard and have used a hand held whirlybird spreader for years, with great satisfaction. I don't know why I didn't upgrade to the EdgeGuard mini broadcast spreader earlier, but I'm sure happy that I have one now. It's so much more efficient, and I'm confident that the appropriate amount of fertilizer is being distributed on my lawn, now.
Overall, the product seems to be well made for the price. The most important part of the spreader, the flow setting, doesn't seem to be calibrated to match the Scott's lawn care products. I just used it this morning on setting 3, which is the stated setting for the Turf Builder product I am using. I went through a complete 5000 sf bag over a yard section that is no more than 2000 sf. This with an overlap patter of at least 5 ft and walking briskly. I dropped to the lowest setting (2) for the rest of the yard, but the fertilizer still seemed to pour out of the bottom. The opening does differ when changing the setting, so it seems to be 'working'. The flow rate is just to heavy. Will not use it again.
We apologize for the issues you have encountered with your Turf Builder Edgeguard Mini spreader. It sounds as if your spreader may be out of calibration, and if that's the case, it is most likely defective. These spreaders are calibrated at the factory and should never need to be re-calibrated. Cheap plastic parts, did not last even one season
il y a 11 ans
This is the second one (Edgeguard mini) that broke after three uses. Both times it is the same part. The connector between the spreader plate below the bowl and the stirrer in the bowl. It is a cheap plastic connector. My required use is not heavy duty. The lawn area is quarter acre. All I do is spread is fertilizer 4 times a year and lime twice a year. After two breakdowns in one year, I bought a different brand (Statesman from Southern States CoOp). The one I had before I bought the Scotts Spreaders (Republic brand) lasted more than 10 years. Except I cannot find that anymore to buy.

Great for applying granular insect killer too
il y a 2 ans
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I couldn’t be happier with my new Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Broadcast Spreader. It was very easy to put together right out of the box even without having to refer to the instructions. This spreader can be used to apply a variety of lawn products. In my case, I used my spreader to apply a granular insect killer (including fire ants) to my yard. Depending on the spreader setting I use, I can go 3 or as much as 6 months between applications. I felt better using my new spreader rather than trying to apply the proper amount by hand. Thank you for making such a dependable product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Scotts Turf Builder Mini walk-behind broadcast spreader features Scotts exclusive EdgeGuard Technology to keep product off landscaping, driveways, and sidewalks. This excellent spreader is
designed to deliver superior results when used with Scotts fertilizer and grass seed products. This spreader can also be used for salting icy walkways and driveways. It comes pre-calibrated and fully assembled with fold-down handle for easy storage. We love this product because is ideal for treating smaller areas, and its compact design allows for easy storage. WONDERFUL AND THOUGHTFUL PRODUCT!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was recently gifted a Turf Builder Edgegaurd Mini complimentary from Scott's in exchange for my honest review. Scott's Turf Builder Edge Guard Mini is easy to use and provides excellent coverage. The EdgeGuard technology works as advertised, preventing the product from spreading to unwanted areas such as driveways, sidewalks, and flower beds. The spreader's compact size makes it easy to maneuver and store, and the adjustable handle and grip allow for comfortable operation.
The Scott's Turf Builder Edge Guard Mini is a reliable lawn spreader that delivers accurate and precise application of lawn products. It is an excellent choice for homeowners who want to maintain a healthy and beautiful lawn with ease.
I wish i had read the reviews from the bottom up. Could have avoided a terrible purchase. This is truly a terrible products. The Drive wheel skipped along the ground half the time without turning. When it kicked in, it would then throw all of the fertilizer that had been fed out along the previous ten to twenty feet. I am going to have a bizarre lawn full of over and under fertilized spots. Though i plan to return the spreader for a refund, I cant do the same with the fertilizer spread wonkily all around my yard. If anyone can recommend a decent spreader, please share.

So disappointed

Used the spreader two times and it is now broken. The connection near spinner is broken. I am extremely careful with my equipment of any kind and to have this happen with so little use is shocking. Sent an email to Scotts and got no reply, figures. My first time using a spreader of any kind so after calling around to Lowes and HD I guess I am not alone. The gentlemen I talked to advised me of an alternate product saying " the spreader you bought gets returned aLOT". Wish I spoke to him before I bought it. Sadly, I am unable to return it to the store since I am past the 30 day policy.
Rather have the Scotts since I like the size and ease of use (I use scotts fertilizer etc) but I guess it was not meant to be.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ok so this is really handy to spread out seeds and other lawn products. It is super easy to put together. It is very easy to turn the dials and it pushes with ease because it is lightweight. The trigger is very easy to push as well.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’m in the landscape industry and we use heavy duty spreaders regularly. This spreader is great for homeowners but not sturdy enough for use at work. That being said , this is one cool spreader. I like the easy to use setting dial. Couldn’t be easier to use. I also like the edge guard. I haven’t had any snow yet but tried it with spreading sand. I set the edge guard to stop the sand from going into my mulch beds and it worked real good. I can only imagine it will do the same with ice melting products as well. I also tried it out spreading grass seed and it did prevent most of the seed from getting into the mulch but not all. This seems to be a great spreader and real nice quality for residential homeowner use.
