This spreader is terrible. It does not spread evenly as the product you are spreading hits the right wheel and does not spread evenly. I literally had stripes of crabgrass in my yard this summer because the pre-emergent was not spread evenly. It was really obvious as I put out blue coated grass seed and could see clear rows in the dirt. The second issue is the spreader settings are not correct as it does not distribute enough product per the instructions(it puts out about half of what it should so you need to go over the lawn twice). Be sure to measure the area and calculate the weight of product needed because the spreader settings are way off.

Spreads very unevenly
il y a 5 ans
This is a badly designed spreader that does not spread evenly. As someone else noted, its design is such that it concentrates most of the fertilizer near the wheels of the spreader, resulting in striping. This is so bad that the traditional method of assuring uniformity - spreading at half rate in perpendicular directions - does not work. Instead of stripes, you'll get a cross hatch pattern. This is cheaper than a pro-grade spreader, but you'll be throwing away money by badly fertilizing your yard every time you use it. A pity, because their drop spreaders were good - I used them for years before moving to a bigger house. Stay away from this one.

Edgeguard DLX
il y a 3 ans
I just took back my second Edgeguard DLX this year. Never again! Scotts is the major and I mean major manufacture of fertilizer in the good old USA, Period! Why buy anything but Scotts. Now the ugly, the Edgeguard DLX is just not up to any type of quality standards. I now have strips in lawn and it is ugly. No matter what I did with the spreader it just wasn't going to lay down a nice even pitch of fertilizer. So, its back to the stores and this time I'm going to be looking for a new fertilizer as well as a new spreader. Makes you think that maybe they might not know how to make a good fertilizer it they can't even make a quality spreader.

Easy to use and clean.
il y a 9 ans
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Scotts Turf Builder Edgeguard DLX Broadcast Spreader is easy to use, just fill the bin and set the spreader settings and you are ready to go. Spreading fertilizers, weed killers or insecticides is accomplished quickly with the 5 foot throw of the spreader. Clean-up after use is easy as the Scotts Turf Builder Edgeguard DLX Broadcast Spreader is easily rinsed with the garden hose and the left in the sun to dry. Some non-Scott products do not have spreader settings available on the packaging and are therefore difficult to use because you want to spread at the most effective rate for the product you are dispensing. Overall this is a very good product.

Wheels too small for capacity, spring hard to hold for long time
il y a 12 ans
Like the increased capacity and edge guard feature. Would not buy again because wheels are too small for this heavy capacity. When the spreader hits a dip on a less-than-smooth yard, it tends to tip and slow down, all while fertilizer is flowing. It is difficult to keep a consistent flow on uneven ground. Also, my old Scotts spreader had a lever at handlebar which would keep the handle for chute in "open" position so you didn't have to squeeze it the entire time. The EdgeGuard does not. My arms get cramped having to constantly hold the chute handle (spring is stiff). I'm a small female. Probably neither of these problems would affect a stronger person.

Poor quality
il y a 5 ans
I bought this 2 months ago and finally got a chance to use it. What a dissappointment. Weed and Feed called for a 3 1/2 setting. When I got done with my 10,000 sq ft yd, I had so much left over I didn't know what went wrong. I found out at setting of 4 1/2 should give a opening of a little less than a 1/4" I had put mine at a setting of 6 for 1/4" opening, but the spring loaded door sets in at such an angle that the other side of the opening was less than 3/16". As a result, I have a yard that looks like a green striped watermelon rind. After using my other Scotts spreader for more than 25 yrs, I never suspected a new one to have such a bad calibration.

"This" spreader is total garbage.
il y a un mois
I gave it 1 star because there was no "0"...
The Mrs gave me one in May for my birthday. By mid-summer the edge-guard cable failed, oh well, I removed the edge-guard and carried on. After one over-seed and two fertilizer applications (on 2000 square meters of lawn) I determined that it worked well for grass seed but not fertilizer product. Fertilizer (and anything with more mass than seed) jams/stops the plastic agitator when the drive wheel/spreader is moving (i.e. slippage between the wheel drive and agitator) and no fertilizer is broadcast. Slippage is now so bad that the device is useless and I will have to buy something else, but never a Scotts...

Newer isn't better
il y a 4 mois
Have had this spreader for a few years now after letting a family member borrow my 25+ year old Speedy Green spreader. Rather than retrieving the old spreader, I decided to just buy a new one for myself. What a disappointment! My old one worked flawlessly. The newer one does not disperse the fertilizer equally thus leaving stripes in the yard. Following the recommended settings, I use far less fertilizer than I previously did despite using the same Scotts fertilizer. The Edge guard left burnt strips along the perimeter (I only used that feature once). Would love to find another old SpeedyGreen and ditch this newer one.
