So I'm an excavator and have build a lot of septic systems. Always used a pvc hand saw back in the day. Moved up to a cordless sawzall with my DeWalt tools. Bought into the M12 line starting with the pex tool. This is much nicer to use cutting pipe than either. Throw a good blade in and it cuts great. Would still use my sawzall for cutting anything bigger than 4 inch, but this is nice one handed control. I like the whole blade change mechanism also. A spring loaded twist gig. Can't say anything about the non fuel model, but if you plan on buying a nice tool, just spend the extra money and get the brushless fuel. You won't be disappointed.
I bought mine after using a friend's older model a fair amount. It's size makes it nice for bad position jobs, especially compared to our big corded recip saw. Being battery powered makes it nice where power is not convenient.
My only real advice is get the bigger, higher amp hour batteries. When working, especially on harder materials, it will suck the smaller batteries dry in no time, and has less power when using them.
I do like the addition of the light to the newer models. Which just shows how old my friend's is, still working well, being used and abused by a handyman. How about venting the motor to blow clear debris in the cutting field?
I purchased to M12 Hackzall for cutting off small (6"-8") tree stumps so I didn't have to quickly dull my chainsaw blade. I purchased two aggressive pruning blades along with the saw ant went to work with two fully charged 4Ah batteries. While the work wasn't quite as fast as I'd hoped, the saw did the job and never bogged down or quit. I was a little worried about a 12" blade in such a small saw, but no issues at all. The two batteries gave out after five 8" stumps that were cut very flush to the ground. Next job was some light branch pruning and it was very easy to hold in one hand while grabbing the branch with the other. It seemed ideal for this work.
This is a really great tool, and I'm surprised how much I've used it since I purchased it. Of all the tools I have now in my collection, I think this probably gets the most work. I've only had it a month now, but I'm that month it's had a pretty serious workout.
The only negatives would be the shoe, and the rubber bumper behind that. The shoe is fixed, and that really lowers its effectiveness. I generally use full size blades, so being able to work the saw on whatever I'm cutting would be preferred. and the bumper is already chewed up, so I don't expect that to last at all, and that is a pretty major disappointment.
Honestly I bought this tool to replace a previous one that had failed just five months old. The new tour came with a much larger motor I suspect they said it been an issue because in the past five years I’ve gone through one of these almost every year with the exception of the last one previous to this one which only lasted for months. I noticed that the new tool that’s trouble excepting the batteries that I had in circulation they keep falling out of the tall handle but I guess it is what it is appreciate it having a platform to speak on. I am pigeonholed into the 12 V line at this point. So I will not be changing

Lots of guys in trade dismiss this tool as an underpowered Sawzall; but it's not meant as a Sawzall, it replaces a small hand hacksaw and does an excellent job in that role.
I use it to do things like cutting unistrut, threaded rod, slicing out copper piping, plastic piping and venting and similar jobs. I can work with it overhead with one hand and can squeeze it into tight places that a regular sawzall would never fit.
My wife has even "borrowed" it to use around the garden for some light duty pruning.
My only criticism is that it does need a 4.0 CP or larger battery to really shine, it's underwhelming on 2.0 batteries but will still do the job if you're patient.
I was using the Milwaukee hacksaw at work. And was cutting conduit from an old room that we were in the process of tearing out. When over the weekend the electrical company switched on a breaker that fed power of 480v to that room. I came in Monday to finish demo. And when I started to cut the copper wires to that feed, arkfash in my face! My saw blade went across all leads but grounded itself out on the tool. The Milwaukee hacksaw saved my life! And still works after taking a hit like that! I wasn’t wearing gloves at the time or any electrical PPE. I really recommend these, takes a beating and keeps on ticking.
I purchased this because I occasionally have trouble removing used car parts at the auto salvage yard, and you can't use grinders in the yard. A week after I bought it I couldn't separate a heavy duty steering box from its steering shaft, and this little bugger cut through the steel shaft in a flash. I was really impressed with how quickly it cut, and the blades are very easy to change out. I already have a couple other M12 tools, so I only needed the bare tool (and a few extra short demolition blades in my tool bag). It's great at cutting through heavy bolts, too. So far I haven't had to cut any steel bar over 3/4", but I wouldn't hesitate to use it on bigger pieces.
