I used the saw mostly cutting mesquite logs. It was extremely different than my O-41 Farm Boss. The weight of the tool makes it easy to use. The smoothness of every cut was hard to believe. The bar oil worked perfectly with no mess. I used the saw on an angle numerous times with no extra effort. I was astonished at the tremendous battery life. This new tool cut through a one foot diameter mesquite log like it was soft pine. If a perfect chain saw never existed IT DOES NOW!!!!!
Used this product for cleaning trees on my property. lightweight, powerful and easy to use. I feel safe while using it, so quiet and not having to mess around with mixing fuel makes this a simple tool to use. I used multiple sizes of M18's depending on what I had fully charged at the time. 12.0 lasted the full 8 hr day of cutting and trimming pines, 9.0 lasted roughly 5-6 hours doing the same job. Milwaukee hit a grand slam with this tool. Definitely one of my go to favorites.
I've owned a couple of gas powered chain saws with 16" bars in the past. This saw cuts just as well as the gas powered saws. The first tree I cut up was a dead 20" red oak that was about 20' tall to the branches. This saw had no problem cutting it up. It did take the 12 amp battery being charged 3 times to cut up this tree. It was about 25-30 degrees when I used in so that may have affected battery performance some. If you have one of these saws and only have the battery that came with it - you should probably plan your cutting so that the battery doesn't run out in the middle of cutting something down. The bar and chain are thinner than other saws I've owned. I wonder how easily the bar could warp in a situation where it gets pinched in a bind. If this saw was cheaper, I would probably rate it 5 stars,
I use this product every week and absolutely love it. I brag about it all the time.
Things to be improved are the bar tighteners tend to loosen quickly and when we try to tighten them, they tend to strip.
I would like more aggressive dawgs to help hold the saw more sturdy and assist in making more square cuts.
Keep in mind this is an excellent product that has no comparison. I can not say how much I love it, I think these modifications could improve the product.
I have had this saw for since it first came out. It is a great light duty saw if you are looking for something to cut small brush or branches but when you get into cutting trees, the bar and chain can't handle that type of work. Both my brother and I have the same saw and have come to the same conclusion. The chain is very easily thrown off with heavy work. The battery life is not bad and it is nice not having the noise of a motor, just wish the bar and chain were better.
Thank you for leaving a review on your M18 FUEL™ 16" Chainsaw. Do not over-tension the chain - excess tension will cause excessive wear and reduce the life of the chain, and could damage the bar. It is a beautiful thing to be able to just grab the saw, make sure it has oil, release the safety and start cutting. No gas spills. I've cut down over 12" trees, limbed them, and blocked the bole up for firewood usually with just one battery (Ponderosa Pine). I have had the chain jump off the bar a few times when I've gotten sloppy or in brush. I keep it in my car in case there are downed trees when I go jeeping. It's been very reliable and I've had it for two years.
This saw is amazing. Cut up a 16” 40’ red maple with one charge. Tried it on a much larger hickory tree next. It did take two charges to cut it into firewood but I didn’t mind cause it takes time to process all the wood anyway. I like that the blade is narrow. It produces less saw dust. Cuts wood like butter. Like that it turns off every time you release the trigger. Gives me time to move branches and such out of the way to create safer cutting area. What I like most is that it starts when I pull the trigger. I have several other chainsaws and struggle to get them started after sitting awhile. Makes me insane but this saw eliminates this problem. I would still uses a gas saw when cutting all day but to small jobs this saw is perfect. Although I do miss the sound of a gas saw but am glad to get rid of the smell.
What a trooper this tool is. My Daughter and I are in Hawaii, on the Big Island clearing a lot In the rugedest of Jungle I have ever seen. "X-ARMY whom spent 2 years in Panama and underwent US ARMY Jungle training" We have dropped many of trees with this machine in 2 weeks several 14" wide. I cant believe how this saw performs. We purchased several batteries and have experienced that 15ah worth of batteries out perform this logging grown Mainer. Great job Milwaukee.
As I got older my gas chain saw became a pain to use (hard to start & noisy). Then I bought a corded electric saw and it performed well, but I got tired of dragging a cord around. I looked at all the battery brands out there and even went to the stores to look at them. I decided to buy the Milwaukee because of their quality and reputation. I've used it to cut wood of various sizes all day and the battery still had ample power to cut more. I'm extremely happy with it.
I cut wood to heat my home. Performs as I expected for an electric saw. I use it as a trim saw because it’s light. Battery life is fair. My one complaint is it leaks bar oil constantly. Sent it in once for warranty repair and it leaks just as bad as it did when I sent it in. I’d give it a 5 star rating if they could resolve the bar oil leaks. I understand saws will leak during storage but I shouldn’t have to set it on rags or cardboard to transport to my woodlot.

I would definitely buy it again

I bought the chainsaw because my parents asked me to take down a tree that would be in the way for an addition on to their house.I absolutely loved using it, it was lighter then other chainsaws and way quieter as well. It was so easy to use, even my 8 year old son was able to learn how to use it (with my supervision of course). The only thing I didn’t like about it was that it was not easy to find due to several store not keeping it in stock or it being on back order.
I am a nearly 80 year old lady. The saw is light weight for carrying into my wooded area. It cuts rapidly and it is so nice to be able to have the saw off while I find and position the next piece. Very well made and it is fast to charge from zero in less than an hour. I feel so safe with this saw compared to the gasoline saws. I cut enough wood for heating my house for 3 days on the coldest winter days (-25 or -30 C.) in less than a half hour. I am very happy.
We operate a family farm plus run a lawn and yard care business. We wanted a battery powered saw for being able to just grab and go. One of the benefits is being able to cut up a big tree and still have battery left or do multiple smaller trees. The saw itself seems very rugged and well built, unlike gas saws that don’t have power to start the chain when touching the branch for some tight detailed trimming. The torque from the electric motor starts with no problems.
I have been impressed with this saw so far. More power than I expected and I love the quietness of it. I have only cut about a truckload of firewood with it but it basically ran with my 16” stihl ms250. I wish it had the toolless chain adjustment like my Stihl or at least came with the tool. I bought the chainsaw and the pole saw and neither one came with one. Awesome tools though. You can’t beat the M18 tools though whether it’s on the job site or around the house.
great power. Long lasting. Leaks oil badly. Can't see, to keep the chain either. I love the power and ease of use but the oil leak and chain constatly falling off drives me crazy. I can't go without putting the chain back on several times while bucking up a tree. I also have to store it over a bucket as it leaks like crazy. I always open the oil cap after use to get the pressure out of the oil tank. Could be great but really has been frustrating me lately
I use my chainsaw for yard maintenance, and storm clean up. I have several Milwaukee tools, and like the quality most of the time. This product requires that you empty the bar chain oil after each use. This to me is a hassle. Otherwise it’ll leak out and make a mess. I was excited to have a cordless chainsaw, but wish the manufacturer had been better executed the design. I’m also weary of not having more American made options. Otherwise, it does a phenomenal job.
I thought this Chainsaw is going to be a great purchase. That was such an understatement! I like collecting driftwood is turning it into A RT. This saw with a fully charged battery can do so so much!
I’ve cut slabs! I’ve cut endless steppingstones. I’ve cut Burlewood ends from pieces I never would have been able to get to if I had to pack gasoline. Plus it starts every time! I bought the 12 V rotary tool it sharpen the blade perfectly!… Yes I would recommend it
I bought the pole saw first and was completely blown away. The battery life has been great with just about everybattery Ive put in it. This saw, reguardless of battery, has been a waste. I got the kit with the M18 xc12 battery and even the back up xc8 battery I spend all my time waiting for batteries. I wont get solid 30 minutes of cutting on a full xc 12 battery. Going thru hurricane Laura has just proven how horrible this saw is and the lack of run time it has.
I've been in need of a chainsaw for a while with all the trees and fall branches I deal with on my property. Decided to give this a try after reading and watching lots of reviews online and it did not disappoint. I got the M18 12.0 Ah battery for it and I was super impressed with how this thing cuts. It feels really solid and there is more than enough power for this thing to cut through pretty much anything you throw at it. This chainsaw is a beast, awesome tool!
After 2 years of using this chainsaw, I decided to provide an update. It still goes great. The chain has gone a bit dull, but it still cuts.
However, there's something that was made exactly for this chainsaw. I cut a lot of a dry wood, including oak and acacia, so I decided to buy a Stihl PD3 (hardened alloy) chain and a wider bus bar. I wouldn't recommend running a PD3 chain on a stock bar as it is 1.3mm wide and will cause some serious wear.
The insane torque of the chainsaw's low-RPM motor and the hardened teeth of the chain are truly made for each other. It now eats dry oak trees for breakfast. The battery life is not great with this new chain, but wow, the ease of cutting wood is sure worth it!
And I can't express how happy am I with having gone with the M18 kit. It's costly, yes, but a total independence is worth it.
These saws are great. I’m a lineman and we use them at work cutting poles; it’s great not having to start a saw in the bucket and even better not having a bin in the truck that stinks like gas. At home this saw will satisfy 99% of homeowners. Leave it on the shelf for a year and when the storm hits you don’t have to worry about it not starting! They cut like heck and a charge lasts a lot longer than you’d think. With a 12 mah battery they rival a tank of gas.
We occasionally need to cut or trim trees, branches, storm damaged trees. I have a large collection of Milwaukee power tools and always have charged batteries and the saw is instantly ready to go when needed. No worries about old gas and oil mix and trying to start the gas powered saw. The Milwaukee saw cuts thru wood like butter. Super quiet. I even use it for demo work such as cutting 4x4 or 4x6 lumber like deck replacements. It's alot faster than saws all.
I was a little hesitant purchasing a battery powered chainsaw. Not knowing if it would be able to keep up with the amount of cutting we needed done. This little saw can hold its own. It is easy to use, easy to maintain and has no trouble cutting 10" 12." pine trees; 8" hard maple is the largest hardwood tried so far; no problem! Keep the oil filled and a battery charged and you can go all day. 1 battery charge of the 12.0 HO will go about 4 hours of cutting!
I've had gas saws and many of them over the years and this saw cuts as good as any gas 40cc like they claim. The 12 amp battery works well with this saw. I've only used it for one charge so far and the chain has fallen off 2X :( Not good! I think the chain and bar and sprocket all need improving. B.T.W I worked on saws as a small engine mechanic and heated with wood I cut for many years and chains rarely feel off or broke. 2X in one charge is unacceptable.

Great saw durable and easy to use
il y a 4 ans
I purchased this saw in 2018 but hadn't used it much until this year. I love the saw, it is lighter than my 16" Stihl gas saw and I don't have any of the maintenance issues with a gas powered saw (mixing fuel, starting saw after long periods of storage...). This saw cuts really well and is easy to use. Like other reviews, my saw has leaked bar oil from day one, but so does my Stihl and my tree pruning saw, maybe that is just a fact of life with chain saws. The chain also seems to jump off the bar fairly easy especially when it is not 90 degrees with the limb being cut. It would be really great if Milwaukee made a storage case for the saw, mine currently sits on the top of my open trash can so the oil doesn't leak on the floor or cabinet. I did find a youtube video where a guy made a case by modifying a Milwaukee tool box.
Wonderful technology that saves on mixing ratios (gas and oil) and saves your shoulder from pull starting. Pull the trigger and go! Great to not listen to it run idling as you do other work while not cutting. Only complaints are the bar oil leaks a bit and the space below the bar tensioner is open and fills up with debris and has to be cleaned out more frequently. Cut down over 120 trees and am now going to sharpen the chain. Great innovation by Milwaukee!
I want to start out by saying that Milwaukee is running away with the cordless tool industry. I am a full time mechanic and I have all my power tools are Milwaukee. So I had a couple big trees that had to be cut down so I knew what I had to get. So I bought both the 16” chainsaw and the 10” pole saw. I used this product for three straight weekends nonstop from morning till dark and it has been able to handle everything. Milwaukee really did good with this.
I have lots of trees where I live and during this season I tap my maple trees. I need lots of wood to boil it down and this saw is incredible cutting up logs to burn there are areas that I have to cut back and keep cleared and am looking forward to plopping in the battery and cutting stuff up . Instead of spending time trying to get my gas saw to start and then stay running. Life is too short to spend so much time cranking on a saw instead of cutting up!
I have used this product to clear several trees, trim my lot line and remove fallen trees.
Here is what you need to know:
Quiet when not in use which is perfect when you cut all day
No smoke ever!
Lightweight
No pulling or choke to mess with
Powerful for cutting at full width of blade
Ultra portable
Make sure you have the high capacity batteries so you can work all day. This is a great tool and a must have for every homeowner!
Purchased about a month ago and have gone through three battery charges worth of work. I am impressed with the power, ease of handling and the longevity of the battery. Two negatives are one :- chips and sawdust are not cleared as well as you would expect and two :- chain oil feed is not adjustable and feeds more than required. These two result in having to remove the side plate and clean the oily chips and sawdust more frequently then I would expect.
