Works great!

I've had a landscape business for 16 years. I've started replacing equipment with electric. This saw cuts nice. It seems to stay sharp a little longer as the blade doesn't seem to get as hot as a gas engine. It's a pleasure not to have to expend my energy pulling the starting cord and fiddling with a gas engine. Also, so much better for my asthmatic lungs. The only complaint I have is the batteries don't last that long for commercial use. I feel like I still need to bring my gas saw to jobs as a backup.
The saw works really well. The narrow blade slices through material well but it can pinch easily. I did have a few challenging times when the chain coming off the drive spocket, having to take the time and fix was a pain. Not sure if thats the saw's normal or if it's me. I was very aware to check the tension every once in a while but it still happened unexpectedly. Over all I'm satisfied with the saw and the run time on the battery is satifactory. (Wish they didn't cost so much or I would have a second.)
I shouldn't be surprised by anything Milwaukee sells. And yet, I am still amazed at how awesome this chainsaw is. We had a bad ice storm a few weeks back, and I had to have a chainsaw. I ordered this, and I have not been disappointed by any facet of this tool.
The auto oiler does not leak during storage, and adjusting the chain is simple and quick. I've cut everything up to a 12 inch diameter tree with no issues. I wish it came with a case, but I made my own. The 12ah battery has lasted very well.
I bought this to use for quick jobs where my gas powered saw just seemed like to much work to get out, prep, and pull start. With the 12amphr battery it works as good if not better than my gas powered one! The battery lasts about as long as a tank of gas. It is easy to work with, just an on and off switch. and of course quiet when put down to move branches. It is going to be my primary use tool, once I get another 12 amphr battery.
Don't forget to get chainsaw bar oil when you buy the saw! I forgot.
I spent two weekends putting the chainsaw through the paces. I am use to a Husqvarna gas chainsaw. The Milwaukee was a definite change, It is quite, It cuts fine and pleasantly surprised with battery life (12A). I was worn out before the battery gave out. The unit is heavier than one would think but well balanced. Kick back was very minimal. After I cut with it, my wife took her turn by trimming tree limbs. Seems to be a very safe unit for what it does. I think it was a good investment. Time will tell.
Had some trees in habours yard that where dead and needed to cut them down. Have a gas chainsaw which is always hard to start. So decided to give the Milwaukee M18 16" chainsaw a try. After using this a few times the chain has come loose on the bar and the tightening screw is as tight as possible so can not tighten the chain on the bar at this time. Will need to take the cover off and see if there is an issue with the tightening screw.
Other wise this was a great purchase for the job need to be done.
After the first time using this I noticed the chain kept loosening, so every few seconds I had to stop cutting to tighten the chain. While I was tightening the chain, the flat head screw that you use to tighten the actual chain became stripped and bent within a few times tightening it. I’m really disappointed in this product. I’ve been in touch with Milwaukee already, and I can’t send it in to a repair shop until this whole pandemic is over. If I could do it again, I would have bought a gas chainsaw.
I thought it would be a great saw. It’s quieter and runs longer than I expected. I did lots of research. I use it for yard cleanup and cutting down smaller trees. The saw would cut down larger trees. However my skills are insufficient to safely fell larger trees. The battery charges up faster than I can clear and stack the wood that had been cut. You wouldn’t need a second battery unless you had someone helping you with the
yard work. I have never been less than thrilled with Milwaukee products.
I have a hobby farm with trees that need pruning and sometimes cut for firewood. I am not a mechanic and have had a nightmare with my 3 expensive gas chainsaws.
I just finished a morning of pruning, taking down a 50 foot tree and cut it up for firewood. The saw is light, quiet and extremely easy to use.
Since I am critical and cannot provide a review without some negative my question is "too bad it's not self-sharpening!"
Thanks Milwaukee, I now have 3 gas chainsaws available for sale.
I tried this saw out a few times. As a line maintainer I cut the odd tree and a lot of hydro poles. The saw is quiet and will cut small poles however struggles through larger hard pressure treated poles. The chain is very small and doesn't clear as much wood as our typical gas saws. We typically use stihl 261 and although the stihl is a few hundred more it out preforms by far. I also block firewood at home and I would never be able to cut 5-6 cords of hardwood with this chainsaw. It just doesn't have the power. For limbing it works ok although the chain comes off a lot which gets very annoying. I was hoping for more out of this saw and maybe for the homeowner looking to clear the odd branch or small tree it would be ok, but other then that you just can't compare to a good gas powered saw.
I own a small ranch in Texas with mostly oak, pecan, and mesquite trees. i have had my Milwaukee chainsaw for 2 months, cutting down limbs and trees every weekend. The saw and blade cut through everything with no problems. Battery life has not been an issue, I run out wood to cut before battery dies. Knowing I can grad and go with no issues has made ranch work fun and saves time. I was a little concerned about battery power but not anymore, power is not an issue. Good job Milwaukee, thank you!
I have used this saw less than 2 battery charges(not sure how many cuts). Everything seemed to work fine cross cutting logs using bottom side of bar/chain. However when I tried to cut down a stump by plunging the end of the bar through the middle, the groove of the bar opened up and the chain started to fall through. Eventually had to stop bc the chain was too far in the groove. The bar seems to be too weak for this amount of torque. Looking to upgrade to a 16" stihl or husky bar and new chain.
I have a lot of milwaukee tools so the chainsaw looked to be a good addition. It has so far preformed well and you can feel it pulling itself into the wood making quick cuts into small maples and holly trees. Tension adjustment was simple with the exception of the provided tool being tool being difficult to remove and replace on the saw. The saw also seemed to have issues with clearing the chips out of the guard. Overall it looks to be a decent saw for around the house which is what I wanted.
I got this thing back at Christmas, it came with two 12 amp hr batteries at a very good price. I didn't need it till recently I had a customer have two 100' tall trees fall on her dock an Oak and a Cottonwood. This chain saw made every cut with ease. I really liked that it was low noise and that when you let off trigger it was no longer running. We cut all day and used one a one half battery. We only had to get out the stihl for cutting the trunk which was over 20" Wish they made a bigger one.
I bought this saw a few months ago after a storm knocked down a few of my trees, I've owned gas chain saws and I've fought them all through maintenance. Thats what persuaded me to try the milwaukee chain saw, its been an absolute dream as of now! No pull start, no fouled spark plug and no carburetor issues, win! It is on the heavier side but at the same time its a 16" bar and power wise equal to 40cc with the 12ah battery but you can use others I've used both my 8ah and even my 5ah batteries
We have a lot of trees on our lot. I had two rather large pines, and a very large Ash tree that had died. I thought I would purchase the saw for small limbs and maybe carry it on my ATV, but did not think it would be strong enough for larger jobs. I was wrong. We cut down all 3 trees and limbed them on one battery charge. The saw never jammed or slowed down even once. Totally impressed. Even my contractor tried it out and was thoroughly impressed with it. Cannot recommend it enough.
Great product, purchased to clear some land that I bought. Read previous reviews about oil leakage, and chain falling off. First of all as a season tradesman, all chains come off any manufacturer of chainsaw... when the chain heats up they expands and get loose as did mine during the first couple of cuts. I re-installed it and tightened it and never came off since. As far as oil leakage, by a premium chain oil that is thicker in consistency and not showing any leaks as of yet and been a month sitting on my shop floor! Cut for almost 4hrs on the battery at full charge (12Amp one) while my brother-in-law used my Milwaukee saws-all and went through 2 5amp batteries in the same time frame. Overall I'm very pleased with the performance and light weight of the unit. looking forward to future use! Matt
I have been without a chainsaw for the last 5 years because of fuel storage issues and maintenance associated with fuel. This is the perfect saw for someone who might have occasional need and not a lot of time to dedicate to fuel. The 16" bar is just right for most backyard projects. A scrench tool was not included, Milwaukee should really consider adding this low cost ( necessary ) tool to this kit to make it complete.
Pros: easy storage
Cons: Milwaukee should include a scrench tool
Totally amazing l love it, It’s very light when it comes to lifting and using to cut wood trim branches it makes about 150 cuts before having to charge battery again and doesn’t use very much chain and bar oil and best part is no stinking gas and oil smell or the cost of it l would recommend this to anyone who’s going out cutting wood and trimming trees and wants a lighter chainsaw with less noise and runs off a battery not gas&0il l also found it’s the best deal out there for the price!!
I use this chainsaw 4 days a week and about 41/2 hours per day. Working with two 12 batteries, I seem to have exhaust 1full charge battery and another at 2/3 the charge of it. So, I happy with how much run time I receive at of the 16 inch big red dog. Being in a bucket lift it's electric start compared to trying to use a gas pull cord start chainsaw is a hundred times more easier for start up,for cutting operation. I recommend this product to everyone I know that's purchasing or looking to purchase in future, a chainsaw for any occupation or homeowner that is in need of a chainsaw. No regrets on this purchase guys, try it out you'll want to cut down and trim trees for neighbors after completing your duties on your property just to use it again and again. Nothing negative to comment on this tool.
I bought the M18 FUEL trimmer and blower last year. I was so impressed with both products I decided to get the chainsaw only and use the batteries that came with the trimmer. Wow I was very impressed of how much power this chainsaw has. It cuts through logs with ease and never lost power, in fact I still had 2 bars left on the battery after a couple of hours of cutting up many large tree branches. The saw is easy to handle and easy to transport. I would definately recommend this chainsaw.
Have had good luck with this saw, it is my go to saw for most small jobs, have had two issues with it, it will leak oil some times and the stock chain jumping off of the bar. I switched the bar and chain to the same 14" that one of my gas saws uses, have not had any issues with the chain jumping off, it is a heavier bar and a thicker chain, .050 vs .043, actually would give the saw a 4.5 rating but there is not a option for a half star. Now just need Milwaukee to make one with a 20" bar!
I've been using this to cut down trees on my property. The largest tree was dead and it went from 12" to 4ft in diameter, at the base of the trunk. Easy to use. It's nice that its not loud, because i live in the city. I can not seeing this being a replacement for the pros cutting down trees and limbs all day, but it would be a solid backup. This is definitely a solid for homeowners that don't want to deal with a having a gas chainsaw or for off roaders who need to keep one just in case.
A little on the pricey side but it works well. Very impressed with battery life and power. You can make a ton of cuts through small timber but as soon as you get into the bigger wood and longer cut times it will eat your battery life. I wouldnt recommend it for bucking wood but if you like to fill your trailer with longer lengths and wait till your home to cut it down then its perfect. Picture- 7'x14' trailer with maple and birch, had one bar left on the 12ah battery when we were done.
The city had recently cut the ditch in front of my home. They left a tiger trap's worth of stumps and debris behind. I used the saw to clean up. I cut stumps up to 12 inches in diameter with no problem. The saw used a lot of chain oil (1/2 liter), I had to tighten the chain several times and the battery only lasted about 90 minutes. These issues were all listed in the reviews I read before I chose Milwaukee, so no surprises. This saw is a great addition to my Milwaukee collection.
This saw is amazing, it’s already setup out of the box, just made sure chain tension was good, added bar oil and I cut down two trees in no time. The saw is powerful, did not bog down at all, it came with the 12 volt battery which still has 4 bars left. My previous two battery chainsaws I have are Ryobi’s, in comparison this Milwaukee is much superior in power to those. So far there has not been any bar oil leakage which is awesome. I have nothing bad to say at all, this a sweet saw!
Chainsaw worked great! However, it sucked down the battery rather quickly. I didn't force it into the tree. I just let it cut at it's own pace. The problem is, that once the 12.0A M18 battery depleted, it took 4 hours to charge back up. I really need 2 batteries, but 1 battery costs as much as the chainsaw! With the huge price of a battery, it is hard to "bite the bullet" and buy a second battery. Battery prices really need to come down to justify the investment in the tools.
I have not been all in on larger battery tools, like lawn mowers, weed eaters, etc. But this tool is changing my mind. It makes me want to go and trim/cut my trees down, clearing up my land.
I usually only use my chain saw once or twice a year, every time having to work on it first to get it started. Now I am carrying it out everyday looking for something to cut. Great saw, works for small and bigger trees. I have 2-6amp batteries and it last as long as I need. I’m glad to have it.
I use the chainsaw to remove small trees and srubs when I install HVAC equipment outdoors. My first usage was cutting branches back from the cars in the parking lot. (Slow day at work) on 1 large battery i cut enough branches and limbs to fill our dumpster 3 times. The blade is sharp and this chainsaw does short work of wood. I would recommend to not forget bar oil when you purchase. My only wish is the bar could be shorter with the same power almost like a high power pruning saw
The wife and I just purchased our forever home; a 1910 Victorian Craftsman on a acre of land. The home had been vacant for 4 years, and well before that the owner had been living alone and due dementia had not been tending, what must have been, just an amazing secret garden. The result was a yard completely overrun by both mature trees and rather large saplings. I was tired of fighting my gas and long ago discovered the wonder of Milwaukee cordless tools... so I figured I would give it a try. Wow, just amazing. Now I have stumps everywhere (Hey Milwaukee, do you have a cordless digging tool?). I don't know what I'm gonna do once we fall the last of the trees we want gone... but I'm having just more fun than a 54 year old first time homebuyer should be allowed to have. Buy this saw, you won't regret it!
