Frustrating Dust Collection Box
il y a 2 ans
This sander is amazing and can tackle any task! The whole M18 series is well designed, powerful and reliable. My only and significant complaint is with the M18 random orbit sander DUST COLLECTION BOX. It is difficult to open, difficult to close and 'pops' open at the worst times. I got so frustrated with it that I adapted my own. Using the vacuum attachment and a heat gun, I molded the DEWALT random orbit sander dust bag to it. Now it really works like it should. I have pictures. Back to the drawing board guys, use the corded random orbit sander dust bag.
This orbital sander sits proudly with other Milwaukee tool accomplishments. Powerful, time saving, functional just begin to describe this beautiful sander. I knocked out sanding old remaining stain and weathered cedar fence in no time. Fence looks like new. Had to turn variable speed down to 3-4 for great vertical work. This sander is a beast with dust free collection chamber or shop vac hook up. Cordless is the only way to go on site. No lugging cords, just the ergonomic sander and some extra hook link circular pads. Another awesome Milwaukee tool
The finish that I achieved with this cordless orbital sander on day one of using it, is amazing! Took a little getting used to the power of this little unit and needed to dial down the variable speed setting for my
application. Paired this with 3m Cubitron II sanding film disks 180 grit and the surface feels as smooth as glass!!!
I have spent a lot of time researching and trialing various brands of cordless woodworking tools. It is very important to me that the tool fits my hand and is light enough for me to comfortably handle and that the work is done by the tool!! This Milwaukee Random Orbital Sander ticks all of the boxes!!
Although, I have no idea how to open the accompanying dust collector unit without brute force? Any suggestions?
I added the 2648-20 sander to to my M18 collection to make light work of 2 outdoor refinishing projects.
Worked great until halfway through the 2nd project and started having issues with it turning on and off while using it.
I swapped batteries with working units with no change and now it won't even turn on with a fresh 5.0 XC in place.
Annoying issue when you're in the middle of a project but the 2626-20 oscillating tool saved the day to finish the job.
Great tools overall and hopefully the warranty works just as good..

Excellent dust collection!
il y a 2 ans
Excellent sander in comparison to other brands. All orbital Sanders in this price range pretty much remove the same amount. However, the dust collection is what separates this one from the competition. The dust collection is far superior, especially when used in conjunction with a Milwaukee vacuum like the packout version I used. The sander had far less dust on the exterior housing, and there was far less cleanup after use. I am very pleased with this product, and it reaffirms my confidence in the Milwaukee brand.
Awesome sander, certainly agree with best in its class. It certainly will drain a battery but just keep others on hand. Otherwise, the only drawback I have of this is the dust catch attachment is honestly garbage...the sheet sander came with a really nice fabric catch that clips on 100 times easier then the plastic garbage that this came with. Honestly almost returned it only because of the plastic dust catcher attachment. I find myself using the shop vac attachment for this which strains the idea of portability.

Good. Lightweight. Fragile dust collector.
il y a 3 ans
The tool works well overall. For some rough (60 grit) sanding sometimes it feels like the tool wants to pull in a different direction. The dust collector is fragile and broke within a week of owning, and no response from support. Also, it is power hungry and does use up a 5Ah battery in less than an hour. That is called out in the description, though, so not a surprise just a consideration for large projects. I'm most likely going to keep it, but considering a return due to the broken dust collector.
This sander is poorly designed. The sander itself wants to spin rather than the just sanding pad. The dust collection system is extremely poorly designed. It’s made of plastic, which upon dropping this one time broke. Any carpenter is going to drop a tool at some point. The cover to the dust collection system is also very poorly designed. You have to get lucky to get it to snap in place each time you empty it. EXTREMELY POORLY DESIGNED DUST COLLECTION SYSTEM. MILWAUKEE NEEDS TO CHANGE THIS.
The sander worked great for about two hours over the course of 50 days. Then the rotating action start. The dealer told me that I needed to have it repaired by Milwaukee rather than being able to replace it. I just found out that it cannot be repaired through their mail in program and I need to take it to and pick it up from a repair center that is 90 minutes away. That is pretty unbelievable to me. I bought this as part of a whole system of M 18 tools. Now I am wondering if I made a mistake.

Not that Impressive
il y a 4 mois
I am a huge fan of Milwaukee tools. I was pretty excited about using this tool. But I was not that impressed. First off the dust catcher container keeps popping off and doesn't stay on well enough. I am using it to sand Fascia and trim before priming and painting. It doesn't feel it has more power than my corded Ryobi orbital sander, plus the plastic container for the dust catcher does not go well. Hopefully the Fuel Random Orbit Sander will be better than this one.
Being a fine woodworker for a decade, I've used all sorts of sanders and found pneumatics being the best and out performing electrics always. This battery operated sander not only has a good balance without a cord to pull it, it also is variable speed and fits swell in my larger hands. I found that the 5 or 8 is the best battery to put on it for weight and longevity of the sanding process. I have no need to use an air sander anymore - thank you Milwaukee!
The sander itself is good, but the hook and loop material they use is garbage. My hook and loop pad wore out and stopped holding sanding discs within the first ten sanding discs used. Milwaukee did replace it under warranty with a smooth pad on my request, because I had a bunch of adhesive backed sanding discs I could use, but that took over 6 months to receive. A sander that can't hold sandpaper is useless. Hopefully they corrected that problem.

Feels just as good as my air tools
il y a 3 ans
Going from using my air DA sanders at work to using a battery option at home so I don’t have to constantly run my compressor. I would have to say it works very well in comparison to the pneumatic option. Comfortable and fairly light weight, of course at home I use the Milwaukee for carpentry work mostly instead of auto body. It does the job for me either way! The dust collector works great on top of it, as to not make a dusty mess in the house!
I purchased this sander on 03/30/2021.
This sander is somewhat bulky but manageable.
Battery life with a 5AH battery was decent.
After 3 months of use the bearing started to get loud.
I've had it 4 months now and the bearings sound terrible. I don't anticipate that the bearings will last much longer.
I don't anticipate purchasing a replacement once this one goes out.
This seems to be the only MIlwaukee tool that I've had issues with.

Poor dust collection which is key for sanding.
il y a 3 ans
Had a weekend project requiring lots of sanding so picked this up as an extra sander. Very disappointed. If you use larger batteries have to use an attachment to extend the dust bin and it's very flimsy. Same if you attach a vacuum attachment, it basically will just keep popping off. If you use other cordless tools would recommend go with another brand on sander. Had multiple sanders going on that weekend and everyone put this one down.

Badly engineered
il y a 2 ans
The sander and fan to remove the dust are great no problems. Except that the dust canister is fed from the bottom and has no check valve in any way, once there is an inch of dust in the canister any slight shifting or swinging of the sander will send a cloud of dust into the air. Easy fix - Fire the engineer cause they obviously didn't test their product, I hobbled together a check valve with a piece of tape and that nearly fixed it 100%.
Excellent sander that is even better than I was prepared for. The battery and sander attachment fit VERY tight. Other Milwaukee tools have had their batteries wiggle and I was concerned about the vacuum attachment coming loose - NO issues! Very impressed with the results on the first project. I used a HEPA filter on the vacuum and have no dust on the furniture nearby. I got 20+ min with the sander on 5-6 speed and moderate pressure.
The sander itself works OK but the dust collection is rubbish, firstly it’s a solid plastic constainer with a small paper filter that doesn’t collect much plus the lid doesn’t fit properly and keeps coming off allowing the dust to go everywhere. A bag would be better but I can’t see that Milwaukee do one or a vacuum extractor that fits but again I can’t find one, it would be useful if the web site said if there was one available.
I already did a review on this but felt I needed to do another one. After using it for a while I find it not really comfortable to hold on to. It's bulky and too big to fit my hand, and I have big hands. It goes through a 5.0 battery in about 15-20 minutes. The dust collector falls off no matter what you do, although I don't think you need it anyways. It is still a good tool, but I think it ranks lower than I originally thought.
The sander itself works well but the dust collection lid keeps popping off blowing fine dust everywhere. You will need to attach it to a vacuum or use a zip tie or tape to keep the dust collection lid sealed. It is so bad that I am confused how such a glaring design flaw made it out the door. Milwaukee products are usually rock solid. This one is either an exception or a sign of things to come. Bottom line is don't buy.
I have this sander not that long at all, in impecable condition and it stopped spinning. Turns on but doesn't turn. Im a big Milwaukee fan but having a issue with getting it repaired. The 5 year warrantee is only good if they feel like it. I have a scratch on the lable that obsures one digit. When filling out the repair form, adding 1 to 9 all produce he same unit - with years left in the warrentee. Easy fix right... Nope, they are denying my repair request because of this. Tragic failure as a company. Any manufacturing has errors or have some units needing repairs. The reason to buy this item in not just the tool but the backing that it will last. If Milwaukee can't back that up its done being the leader. So my experiece with this snader is it will break , and you can't get it fixed. Hopefully someone with some common sence reads this and fixes a flawed system.

Totally awesome orbital sander!!!
il y a 3 ans
Another great tool from Milwaukee. My wife and I started doing furniture rehab projects a few years ago and this orbital sander has been a tool we use all the time to prep surfaces for painting or staining. We typically the sander with a 5.0 battery and it runs for about 30-45 minutes before needing a fresh brick. Make sure to use a compressor to lightly clean out the sander at the end of the day!!
Great sander, so wonderful with our the cord. Has loads of power to eat wood, with a shop vac hooked up its dustless and has good ducting. Obviously a issue by definition of being cordless, you have a battery giving it a balance issue, but this is real life physics here, until they make tools with a power source that has no mass I'll certainly take this over anything else every time.
Love it!
Like the fact the M18™ Random Orbit Sander (2648-20) is a cordless tool. It comes with a dust canister, an extension adapter (when using high capacity batteries) and a universal vacuum hose adapter which fits most vacuum hoses. It also come with one 80 grit sandpaper. Battery and charger not included which is not a big deal if you have any Milwaukee battery of 5.0 amps or higher capacity.
Great tool. Very powerful, and easy to handle. You can easily connect it to your shop vacuum, which is a great option and helps keep your workplace clean. M18 5Ah battery allows you to run your tool on highest setting for about an hour. Felt like M18 5Ah battery worked best, and also gave the tool the right balance, making it easier to handle. Very good tool. Im highly satisfied.
Powerful yet lightweight and easy to use. The dust collector works perfectly to contain most of the dust. I only have good use of one arm, yet this is easy for me to use but powerful enough to get the job done. Love the 6 speeds to help me control the amount of material removed. This seems to fit any size hands. The universal hose adaptor is perfect for those larger jobs.
Great tool! Dust filter works great and the tool does not cause fatigue despite it's weight. Had plenty of power left after 45 minutes of continuous use. I did not use the supplied vacuum dust collection attachment, but suspect it will work as well as the tool itself. A lanyard would be a good addition to this tool for situations that find the user above ground level.
I originally purchased for a wood working project but decided to use the sander to prepare a chip body for paint. Worked extremely well even when put through its paces. Also, saved me tons of time and did a great job sanding through old enamel paint and surface rust. Currently using it for wood working and I am also impressed with the quality job it does.
The sander is another excellent M18 tool, but after attaching the extender to the sander, I cannot remove this attachment. Three is a clip on the sander that locks the extender to the sander. There is no easy way to push the clip down so that the extender can be removed. Hopefully, someone else has had the same issue and can Reply to this review.

Awesome little sander
il y a 3 ans
Haven't had a chance to use it alot yet but seems to work very effectively and without making a big mess and I haven't even tried the vacuum attachment yet which should even make less mess! Don't believe it's meant for tight spots but open areas works quite well ! I've used it both home & at work ! I like it ! I think it's an excellent product!
