Should have done my research
il y a 4 ans
I have had this sander for a year, and had used it a handful of times. Bought this tool because I had used other Milwaukee tools before and they were great. However this time around, it has been very undependable. First of all, the dust collector is not doing the job. I had more dusk around me than in the collector. Second, I was working on my project and just doing a quick sanding to prep it for paint, and it just stopped working. Not sure what is wrong.

Works well - good features
il y a 4 ans
had this sander about 2 weeks and sanded over 100 board feet of base board trim - removing old finish and prepping for new finish.
The soft start is a nice feature as is the variable speed - the slower speeds are nice for doing the more delicate areas. ( Now, I wish the palm/finish sander I have was also variable speed.... ) The filter works quite well in capturing the dust but quickly fills which is to be expected when removing a lot of material. The cord is a fair length and nice and flexible. The on/off switch works well for me with one finger activation - nice size and placement. A second filter would be nice to just swap in when the first one gets full then clean them both. A water washable filter would be nice if that is possible?? Very, glad this has the variable speeds as I use it more then I thought I would. Fair size and weight, works well.
I had a rigid for over a year and the bearings final gave out and I had to finish a project. The store near me only carried Milwaukee and I figured I'd give the brand a try. After maybe 5 hours of use over a month it stopped. I turned it off to change out the sand paper and it never turned on. Thought it was my outlet, nope... this expensive piece of crap. Never buying another Milwaukee again.
I’ve only used it d
For a couple of days but the vacuum fitting for dust extraction doesn’t engage the machine very effectively. About every 10 minutes it let’s go you have to use it like a large two hand tool - one on the handle and the other pushing the vac line into the port. The actual sanding functions seems to act as expected but we will see about durability. It only has 5 hours on it
I'm a big fan of Milwaukee tools, but this particular sander just missed the mark completely. I'm now on my third unit after sending it in twice for repair. The sander develops a very bad vibration over time, to the point where it will damage the work surface when you first start sanding because the rotation is so off. Hoping a new model comes out soon that fixes the issues with this one

Poorly Engineered- Avoid

Bought this sander to sand down some elevator doors and it worked great. Took it to the second job site to sand down some glulam beams and on the third day it went into overspeed mode and stopped collecting dust. The plastic brake component inside wore out already. This tool has less than 25 hours on it! In contrast, the Dewalt that I purchased ten years ago is still going strong.

Out of 5 brands this one failed for us.
il y a 6 ans
We use these orbital sanders throughout the day to make jump rails. We prefer the adhesive pads instead of hook and loop since the hook and loop fails quickly on rounded surfaces resulting in flying sanding disks. We currently have 3 Milwaukees, 5 Makitas, 1 Ridgid, 4 Ryobis and 1 Dewalt orbital sander. The Milwaukees are the new units. We haven't had any failures yet on the other brands (over 5 years of ownership). At close to a year of use, we had 1 Milwaukee fail this month with the bearing falling off. Luckily it is easy to get these tools repaired at a close warranty center but it takes a while for the repaired unit to come back. We are trying to move to Milwaukee only brand facility so I may be doing regular trips to the warranty center for these units. Our other Milwaukee power tools seem to be holding up OK except for 1 cordless drill and impact set that had switch failures after 3 years of use.
Terribly designed product. I do not know how this sander moved beyond product testing (if they did any..). The dust collection system is BEYOND STUPID. The top seems to snap on at first but when you start using it, the dust gets in the ridge and the top just flies open spreading dust EVERYWHERE. Not to mention it gets full very very quickly. Also, it never came with a shop vac attachment so that option is out of the question for me. This is literally the most stupidly designed sander ever. I would have imagined that considering all the negative reviews Milwaukee would have designed an alternative dust collection system that attaches to the same sander, but no such luck. They seem to be sticking behind this terrible product. It's a strong sander, honestly stronger than DeWalt, but in terms of reliability and design, NOTHING BEATS DEWALT. Will NOT be buying Milwaukee products ever again. VERY disappointed.

Dead. Worst Milwaukee tool I have ever bought
il y a 5 ans
Unfortunately I bought this sander because of the red Milwaukee logo because I’m a big fan of the red tools. However, this is the absolute worst Milwaukee tool I’ve ever bought. First off the dust collector is near impossible to open without pliers or a big screwdriver. Second, after probably 3 hours of total use on the tool the switch failed. Tool won’t turn on. Just garbage.

Not Happy
il y a 5 ans
Like the other reviews the dust collector is difficult to work with - cover doesn't snap on easily and then is impossible to remove. In mid project, after only a hour, turned off for a moment and it will not turn back on. Purchased less than a year ago and have only used approx. 4 times. Very disappointed for this brand which have typically had success with in the past.

Really disappointed
il y a 3 ans
I bought this with high Hope's for quality, but after sanding 3 walls, the hook and loop gave out and sent the sandpaper flying. Not acceptable. I won't bother with Milwaukee again. Should have read the reviews, many of which had the exact same problem. I don't see the point of buying hew parts when the original didn't last. What a waste of money and time.

Very Disappointed
il y a 4 ans
I have only used it on 3 small jobs and on the second job the switch started to fail. Now I am half way through the third job and it has completely failed. I need to get the job done so I will have to buy a new sander today so I am completely disappointed with Milwaukee especially that this is the first time I have bought tools from this company.

Good strong sander. New dust colector needs refining.
il y a 8 ans
I purchased this sander to use in my woodshop.
The sander works well. The tool is made solidly and has a good feel.
I'm having a problem with the new dust collector though.
The lid is very hard to get off to empty the dust. Secondly, I cant seem to locate where to buy more filters.
I have also used it hooked up to my vacuum which worked well.
This is a good product if you don't need a durable tool. The speed control works well and the orbit is okay. The dust collection works reasonably well with a vacuum hookup. However the bearings will break down fast. The hook and loop pad aren't very good either, they won't last long. Getting replacement parts has been a issue for some reason.
3rd Orbit sander and just broke down w/minimal use
il y a 5 ans
This is the 3rd time i take this into warranty. second time they gave me the newer model and still having issues. The switch button seems to be EXTREMELY faulty. wont turn on AGAIN on a job im sanding.. I have a harbor freight orbit sander that is MUCH better than this and has lasted much longer as my trusted back up sander.. unbelievable...
I recently returned three sanders in less than 90 days. The first and third sanders failed when the orbiting disk decided to engage and spin up like an angle grinder at 18,000rpm
Extremely dangerous.
The second sander had the switch fail and the Velcro hooks would not grab brand new expensive sand paper after a months use.
Garbage.
Had this just over a year, worked great the first time I used it and then the second time about 10 months after that it burned up. Started smoking and electrical burning smell. We had a dewalt one forever and it worked awesome. Decided to get a new one and bought this one. Never again. We replaced it with a Dewalt one.

Avoid this sander, major quality control issues.
il y a 2 ans
Bought this to replace an older Dewalt sander that had a switch fail in the middle of a job. The Milwaukee one worked great for a shirt time before the hook and loop pad started consistently failing to hold sanding disks.
The dust collection box has already cracked from separating it to dump it out.
Avoid this sander!

I really wanted this sander .but now having it I'm sanding sand paper flew off cut my hand .another time it caught me in the neck and Drew blood.good thing it was not my eye hook and loop is cheep make it longer like good velcrow .the dust cup feels up so fast you can't keep the dust down with it.a bag would be better.
Well while it worked it was great it leaves a beautiful finish but it just stopped working in the middle of a table top I was refinishing. And the dust collector is useless I don’t even use it anymore I point the port away from me and run It like that. It’s too much trouble to stop and reattach every 45 seconds.

Switch won’t turn on unit
il y a 3 ans
I really like the sander, I go and use it for a few minutes today and start a project. Turn it off then go to use it again and it won’t turn on. How does this switch fail so quickly?
I have several Milwaukee tools this is the first failure for me. Frustrating.
Hopefully Milwaukee will correct this issue.

As others have written i too am a big Milwaukee fan, however the awkward dust collection cover / assembly slipping out of its socket, plus what i believe is an early failure of of the hook / loop pad are extremely disappointing. The actual action and power of the sander itself was very good.
Thank you for your honest feedback, DaveyG, We appreciate that you took the time to leave a review and we will pass your suggestions along. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to reach us at socialmedia@milwaukeetool.com. Thank you - Mackenzie

Backing pad already not sticking after 2 months
il y a 4 ans
I bought this a couple months ago and have used it for a total of maybe 2 hours. The sandpaper is already not sticking to the pad. The filter housing also keeps opening up and shooting dust everywhere unless I tape is shut. Very frustrating as I own many other Milwaukee tools and love them.

Owned this sander for less than a year and in that time I’ve needed to replace the sanding pad and today the bearing completely fell apart and the hook and loup pad fell of the sander. This is not typical of this company but I’m disappointed in the the performance of this sander!!!
Sander has great power and Speed with less vibration them the Mastercraft but Hook and loop pad is poor quality and design. Sanding pads stopped sticking to it after a few hours of use. Would no recommend if you are looking to keep for long-term tool.

Why did I buy this Sander
il y a 4 ans
Needed a palm sander to do finish work. Used 3 or 4 times before sanding pads started flying off and destroying my work.
Trusted the Milwaukee name because I live my saws. No one sells replacement hook & loop pads. It looks good, though.
Bought it yesterday and it wobbles. Dust collection is very good and it sand efficiently with very little vibration.noise level is medium to low. This wobbling is annoying and will probably get worse over time. I will return the tool.
Like others have reported, the on/off switch is failing, my sander is about 2 yrs old. The dust cover never did stay on, always had to rubber band it in place and yes...the loops are failing on the pad and I rarely use the sander.

Falling of sandpaper disc
il y a 6 ans
I’m not sure why but I should have read these reviews before buying this sander. For some reason the sandpaper discs keep flying off when in use and like another comment, hard to take filter cover off to clean up. Not impressed
I’m not sure why this sander has such low reviews. I’ve had it for some time now and have used it on several projects, one was several hours of sanding. Everything worked well and the dust collection worked exceptionally well.
