My shoulder doesn't miss gas chainsaws
il y a 4 ans
After many years of lifting weights, working & playing hard, my shoulders are in rough shape and it was almost impossible for me to start a gas powered chainsaw or weedeater. Thank God for technology and battery operated tools that last a long time. I bought this chainsaw last year after buying a piece of property with over an acre of woods and it has been a great investment. I can use it all day without having to worry about fuel or trying to start it up. It's also much quieter than a gas chainsaw so I'm sure my new neighbors appreciate that! I'm really impressed with Milwaukee tools and how they keep trying to improve and update to make my life easier!
This is by far the best battery chainsaw I've ever
il y a 5 ans
Over the course of the last 6 months I've had 14 full grown trees fall in my yard. I've owned several chainsaws, both gas and battery powered, but the M18 chainsaw is without a doubt the best one I've ever owned. The gas ones would eventually have carburator problems or chain bar problems. The battery ones I tried had issues with battery life and chain bar problems. The M18 chainsaw took on every one of those fallen trees with gusto. The battery life was greater than cutting up one full size tree and the best part is it's the same battery for all of my other M18 tools. On a scale of 1-10, ten being the best, I'd give it a twenty.
I'm a light user - not a professional by any means. I use it to keep the trees and dead branches under control at the farm & cabin. This just beautifully - quicker than my old gas 16", lasts an extraordinarily long time between charges and is slightly lighter than the gas chainsaw. Unexpectedly, one of the things I love the most is the lower noise level and the fact that there's only noise when actually cutting. Expected to love not having to pull start, as my shoulder was injured and I can't pull quickly & far enough for some pull start equipment now. Another bonus is that it cuts so cleanly I used it for all my wood cuts on a new wood shed construction!
I’ve used a few different chainsaws over the years but this one is by far the best. It feels and operates just like a gas powered saw. With the large battery I could cut multiple trees up that had been cut down a few weeks before. The only improvement I could see was making it more adjustable in the field. For example, some of the other models from different brands have the chain adjustments without tools needed. Its very handy to have the tool designed to fit inside the bottom of the saw but did notice it was difficult to get out without using a flat head screw driver or other utensil. Over all this is a great saw and highly recommend to others. Great buy!
This saw cuts like a dream and big battery - while not light - performs beyond expectations. AFter a solid mooring of work, we still had enough power left to go after lunch. The ergonomics are well thought out and it feels both easy to use and safe. I offered a friend to try it as he was using his gas chainsaw - he was not enthusiastic, but gave it a go. Afterwards he said “I want one.”
The only things I would change is that it seems to use a lot of oil and would be nice if the tension adjustment did not need tools. That said, neither of these is a game changer - I would definitely purchase this saw again; highly recommended.
I've been waving the milwaukee flag for a long time. I own over a dozen of their power tools. I figured I'd give the chainsaw a try for the truck since I already have a rapid charger permanently mounted on my rig. I can cut logs and charge the battery as I drive. Seemed like the perfect marriage. No gas to spill, no oil leaks... Riiight... This chainsaw has been leaking horribly non stop. There's no case made for it available in the US either. Normal bags don't fit it, I've tried 3 so far. And can't leave it inside the car due to the oil mess. This is a big fail. Had high hopes for this chainsaw. Stays in storage in a gar age bag because of the mess it makes.

Impressed so far after two days
il y a 4 ans
I cut trees for two eight hour days with the Milwaukee electric. I tried the electric because I got tired of of pull starting once I got to the tops then almost falling off trying to start & keeping the gas chain saw running. To try and save my arms, I decided to try this. I had already cut trees for two days so I was already pretty sore. A small battery lasts about 4 hours & the big one last longer than 8 hours but I ran out of sunlight and it was cold. Not having a lot of noise was great. Being able to hear & have conversations was unbelievable plus my neighbors weren’t frustrated with me. It doesn’t use very much bar oil.
I work for a utility and this saw is regularly used to top broken/damaged poles or for clean up. I recently used this saw to cut up a tree that I felled at the house. The saw performed admirably, cutting quickly and powerfully. The only issue I ran into was that even with a 12.0 battery I had a few instances of the battery entering a thermal lockdown mode after extended continuous use. I would say Milwaukee would have a near perfect chainsaw if this issue could be overcome. Overall I would say if you cut trees occasionally for firewood then this saw should be considered. Side note wonder if a cold compress around the battery would prevent the thermal lockdown.
My almost new Stihl chain saw disappeared and I started researching more powerful chain saws because I never really felt satisfied with what I had. My research led me to consider electric, and because I already owned four batteries of differing amperage I decided that the Milwaukee would be the one. Well Brother, this thing is a monster! It cuts through wood like a hot knife througfh butter, but best of all, it only runs when I hold down the trigger. I'm never walking with a running chain saw, and I'm never screwing around with firing it up. I DO suggest that you buy another battery or two if you don't already have them. The 12Amp will run for about 2-3 hours.
This battery powered 16” Milwaukee chainsaw is really powerful and convenient. Compared to a traditional gas chainsaw, there’s no mixing of fuel and no frustrations with difficult starts. Compared to typical corded electric saws, (obviously) no cord to drag around or get tangled in your work.
We had some snow and ice recently which led to some downed limbs – this saw made really short work of cutting them into manageable lengths. The cuts were fast and clean and the stated capacity of 160 cuts per battery charge should be sufficient for homeowners. All this is a quiet, no emission package that includes a hard plastic blade scabbard.
Highly recommended!
I work with a utility company. This saw is frequently used for topping poles and cleaning up damage from storms or otherwise. I recently used one around the house to cut up a tree that my gas saw struggled with( been problematic since purchase). The chainsaw made short work of the tree, the only downside that I have found is that under continuous use the battery entered into a thermal lockdown mode, if Milwaukee could find a way to counteract that this saw would be perfect. Overall I would say this saw is a great fit for the person that occasionally needs to cut firewood, not for the guy who cuts year round, all the time.
I use this saw mostly for felling and trimming. I like the safety of having a quieter saw, both during the felling process and anytime others are near me while working with a saw. No ear plugs needed. The 12 amp battery holds up about as long as a tank of gas, but takes a little longer to charge than that, so I purchased another 12 and 6 amp. The cost is high for that small of a saw but offset by the fact that I use those batteries in the other Milwaukee tools that I have. I one weekend of using it with the family, it convinced three others to purchase a cordless saw. Since many of the trees I fell are too big for it to block, I use my professional Stihl for that.
I have a Stihl MS 461 with a 25" bar. Don't get me wrong it is also an awesome chainsaw. However This Milwaukee 16" chainsaw is now my favorite as long as I'm using the M18 RedLithium High Output HD12.0 Battery Pack, this machine will outlast the amount of wood I want to cut in one time period and it will almost cut anything that my Stihl will cut without the burden of the heaviness and refueling of the Stihl. I will say the factory chain did seem to dull fairly quickly, but once I sharpened it myself it cuts like a dream, I have probably cut 10 times the amount of wood since I sharpened it and it is still cutting great.
After charging up the battery and then a week if travel to a new homesite in completely raw condition, I was concerned that the battery may have discharged on the way. I had a day's work before I could recharge. This saw performed flawlessly. I did as much felling, limb trimming and bucking as this old body was able and didn't run out of battery. Full speed isn't always necessary so maybe this saves a bit of capacity. It was light, quiet and easy to handle. I've seen comments that the on-board wrench is hard to get out but I'd rather have that than lose it. Also who is tightening the oil cap so hard that they break it?
A great tool for tarnishing Milwaukee's reputation

Had this less than 2 years, took down maybe 15-20 small trees in that time. I went to use it yesterday and it literally would not operate at all. Tried different batteries, nothing. I opened it up and could not see anything obviously wrong. I assume it’s an electrical problem. I researched the issue online and found a ton of people that bought this chainsaw only to have the same problem, could not find any solutions or fixes so it’s basically a paperweight now. It’s a shame, I only buy Milwaukee and I’ve always been impressed, never had any issues with any of their products until now. I can not recommend this product.

Game changer
il y a 5 ans
Instant on and off means a different world of chainsaw-ing for me. I do a lot of trimming and clearing of juvenile and smaller trees on 9 acres outside Austin, TX. The transition speed difference between cutting and positioning for the next cut literally doubles the amount of work I can get done in an hour with this thing over my gas Echo, which was GREAT. It’s quiet too, so I can start an hour earlier without guilt about disturbing the woods. It’s lighter than the gas machine so I can work longer, but I still can’t go as long as the battery with any of the M18 machines I have. Unreal power and performance from a little battery. Didn’t think it was possible. Amazing.
A friend of mine recommended this chainsaw and I couldn't be happier with it. It is a little more expensive then a comparable gas one, but it came with an extra battery and makes an awesome addition to the rest of my Milwaukee tool kit so the extra cost is well worth it in my opinion.
As far as performance goes I'd say it cuts every bit as fast or faster then a gas one and is much quieter. Your can cut a little longer on a battery then you can on a tank of fuel, but the nice part is that you can just set it down in between cuts and you don't have to listen to it or start it every time. It's just always ready to go.
This saw has been a great tool for clearing trees off my parents' property. My dad broke his hip last fall shortly after buying a house and property damaged by Hurricane Michael. I've used this saw to both fell trees and also to cut up trees that were already down. It has been used on construction jobs to cut 4x4 and 6x6 posts to length and was very convenient for that as well. The battery life is very good with an 8.0 HO battery and the saw hasn't bogged down yet. I love that all I have to do is add bar oil to this saw. No more mixing fuel. I still have my gas saw, but this is the one I turn to every time now.
I've owned and used various gas chainsaws since 1980. Stihl was my favorite. I don't cut as much anymore but still needed a saw. So, being I am switching everything from gas to battery, I bought the Milwaukee saw. So happens my son needed a 16" ash tree taken down. He has a gas saw but his two chains were rather dull. I used my Milwaukee to cut much of the tree. Ash is quite hard and the saw cut great. The only downfall was the saw stopped working at the very end because the batteries got too hot. Had to wait until they cooled down. Other than that, it worked great. That is my only reason for not giving five stars.
Surprised it hasn't been mentioned before, but....

We all know how great this saw is, but I haven't seen anyone mention the benefits to having this in campsites where chainsaws are prohibited! I get it, they don't want stupid people cutting down the local trees, but there are those (like me) that bring in long timbers, legally cut and have to cut them down.
With gas cutters, the wardens will be down on you in minutes! With this electric saw, it's barely a buzz. Aside from all the great comments. it is a fantastic tool. Highly recommended. Last a long time, haven't had it more than a year so I but hope the comments on battery problems over a year don't crop up.
I bought this saw to complement my 20" Husqvarna rancher and use for smaller tasks instead of getting out and gassing up the big saw. For that reason, I find it's a little too big for my purposes.
On its own, it's a great saw. It easily handled three 10" Ash trees, felling, limbing and bucking with two bars left on the gigantic HD12 battery. Ramps up fast, cuts well, doesn't bog down. It's quiet and it's nice that it's not always running like a gas saw.
The massive battery takes at least an hour to charge with the rapid charger. I also find that the relatively narrow chain pinches more often than my rancher.
I started off with a 40-year-old S**** gas saw that my family has had since I was a kid. Went to a battery-powered 12" S**** a couple years ago... and now got this 16" Milwaukee when we picked up the pole saw kit, and man, this thing is amazing. The battery S**** is nice for small stuff (to be fair, I have cut logs up to 20" with it, but it takes some time) but this just powers through, probably almost as well as my old 20" S**** gasser, but without the stalling, noise, fumes, and sore shoulder. Better yet, it doesn't seem to be leaking chain oil when stored, like both my S****. Pretty darn happy with this thing!
Great chainsaw. Cuts fast. Battery has not run out during any of my jobs around my property and recharges quickly. I found oil had leaked out slightly after it had been sitting not being used. Perhaps I overfilled it. I always store it on a rag to make sure. The battery charger makes a high pitch sound when fast charging. Milwaukee says they have never heard of this but you can find the same problem posted online (youTube). I may take it in to have it looked at. In the mean time, I only charge on a steel table to concrete just to make sure. All in all, I really like it, however, I still feel it was too expensive.
I have several of the milwaukee M18 tools. It has made tasks much easier not having to start up an engine or find a plug in. With the tools I have, there hasn't been any issue with lack of power. Some tools may weigh more than the corded version but that is an issue for me. The chainsaw was no exception. It cuts fast and has the features I need. Since I have several batteries from the other tools, battery life is never an issue either. Usually my body wears out before the battery does. Plus not having a loud engine is really great. I am not a logger, just the occasional down tree in my back yard. I have cut up roughly 25 trees and have no regrets with my purchase.
I've used a gas powered chainsaw for years and with the success I've had with the other M18 tools I've used, I decided to give the chainsaw a shot. It was well worth it. The noise reduction alone is a blessing and as far as power to do the job, I've been quite happy. I've cut trees so far up to about 12" in diameter and I've noticed no appreciable difference between this saw and my current gas model (a Stihl). Tool maintenance appears simple and the ability to swap out the standard battery with all of my other M18 tools I've already got means there'll be no downtime necessary to fool around with gas cans!
Comparable in weight to my 1980s era Husky 50.
Using this with the 8.0AH battery I can do a decent amount of limbing, cutting small cedars and general property work. This is a game changer coming from a gas powered saw for ease of use, sound level, and power output.
Everything that seems like a chore with a gas saw turns into a quick couple seconds with this.
I wouldnt try to get a full day of cutting firewood, but for all the occasional small things that come up my gas saw doesnt even stand a chance.
Love the clear window for bar oil
Hate the fact it doesnt come with a normal chainsaw case
I got my saw a little over a year ago, and was just using it to "prune" around the house. This past weekend I used it to cleanup tornado damage around my parents house where a lot of "old" pine trees had fallen. I was able to cut through pine trees easier with it than I could with a 460 Husky, and I swapped to the 9amp battery from my weedeater while I charged the 12 amp. I was able to go through a lot of limbs and trees before I had to swap.
My only complaint would be that it needs a "bigger bar" and chain to keep the chain from jumping/getting pinched. This thing was punching way above it's weight.
I bought this to use cutting up the wood from the Large tree we took out in my front yard. it really worked like a champion. I ended up cutting about a cord of wood with it that day. I got the 12ah battery with it and it lasted for the whole job, no batt swap outs or recharges. that let me focus on the job at hand. I was so impressed with the performance I bought one as a gift for a buddy of mine too.
The tool itself is well balanced and light weight, which really helps with overall effort needed to do the job. Chain tension is easy to adjust, and adding oil is simple. Great design, thank you Milwaukee!!!
This chainsaw gets the job done. I bought this chainsaw for my grandfather and it's all he keeps talking about. I also bought him a m18 12.0 battery to go with it. He has cut down 3 big hard wood trees with is so far and says it cuts smooth and it's Comfortable to use And after all that cutting it still has a 1/2 battery he is very impressed with this chainsaw especially since it's electric. It has the same power as a gas chainsaw and you don't have to worry about doing any mixing of oil and gas and normal up keep with a gas chainsaw. All you need is a m18 battery oil for the chain and your good to go
I use this chain saw for light use around my farm and rental clean up. The saw is nice and light and powerful, and the battery life is pretty good. Only bad issue is, the chain comes off the bar often. This saw has it's own chain design from what I understand, but it comes off the bar every few minutes of use. I think their designers need to go back to the table on this one. Because of this issue, I would not recommend this saw at it's price. And I will note, I have purchased several thousand dollars of Milwaukee's tools in the last couple of years, and I am an experienced craftsmen and chain saw operator.
