Second one DEAD within 6months
il y a 4 ans
I keep all my tools/investments in amazing condition, zero abuse, first one died 5 months in, second one died within 6 months. I own a few different soldering irons, this is terrible. I almost always get on my soapbox and scream milwaukee quality, NOT ANYMORE.
Hello, we apologize for this frustrating experience with our M12™ Soldering Iron. We will be in contact shortly to provide further assistance. Thanks- Hannah with Milwaukee Tool

Very Cool Tool (Figuratively)
il y a 7 ans
This tool heats in seconds. I like the led light that indicates when it is hot, it also stays red when you turn it off to let you know it is still hot. I also like that there is no heat exhaust like on a butane soldering torch. I highly recommend this tool.

Dead after light use
il y a 4 ans
I have had this for about 2 years. I has used it probably a dozen times. It worked great and was my favourite soldering iron until today. It seems to be strobing the heat on and off. As it is not staying hot enough to meld the solder, it is basically useless

Can't withstand it's own heat load. Melted & broke
il y a 4 ans
This is a handy little soldering iron but the collar around the tip is plastic and melts with normal use. Then the brittle ceramic core is not stabilized and prone to breakage. To make matters worse milwaukee doesn't have the replacement element available.
Hello Mojo! Thanks for leaving your review of the M12 Soldering Iron. We apologize for your frustrating experience. Please look out for an email from us in your inbox shortly! Thanks- Hannah from Milwaukee Tool

Could be a great iron if not for a serious flaw!
il y a 3 ans
The iron is fantastic when it works but due to the way its manufactured the plastic ring that holds the tip eventually melts, fails and damages the heating element.
To add insult to injury the plastic part that melts is NOT available as a service item.

Another melted collar
il y a 4 ans
You'd think after so many people have the same problem with the collar melting, that Milwaukee would redesign it to be more resistant to melting. And make it a serviceable part as it is removable. Other than that it was a great 12v soldering iron.
Great tool with a really really short life. it should either be cheaper so it can be replaced often before it leaves you stranded at the jobsite with a defective tool. Or better yet have a better quality so that it is actually worth the money....
Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your M12™ Soldering Iron. We're sorry to hear that your soldering iron is experiencing a short life period. A member will be emailing you to gain insight into your tool and assist. - Milwaukee Tool, Social Team

Stopped working after first use
il y a 2 mois
Only got to use it for a couple of hours before it just stopped heating up! Green lights flash as if it's going to heat up, and then it just turns off. I tried a new battery, and I got the same result. I am extremely disappointed in this product!
Our team is sorry to hear that your M12™ Soldering Iron has stopped heating up after a short period of use. We'll be reaching out to you via email to learn more and assist. Thank you - Milwaukee Tool, Social Team

Worked great for 15 mins.

Purchased this soldering iron from a big box store. It heats up fast, but sadly after 6 solder joints the plastic collet melted making it unusable. Not sure if the part is replaceable or not, but I really liked using it till the failure occurred.

Seems nice
il y a 5 ans
Got this thing yesterday and it seems to work great, Now after reading the reviews, I hope that the tool has been updated and I don't have to worry about melting pieces. On the positive side, The tips used are the same as my soldering station!
I fix heavy equipment. And use this a lot. Maybe about 30 hours in the last 2 months. It has not melted yet, but it does not work at all when it is 25 degrees outside. Good idea. Need more power. Never going to work at -40. Home it will stay.
I can count on one hand how many times I’ve used this iron, and now when I turn it on it just continually blinks but never heats up. Really tragic because I absolutely loved it when it worked. Not sure what the process is to get this replaced

Reduce Downtime
il y a 2 ans
Great tool to have when todays wiring gives you trouble. The wiring on todays equipment tends to break down and give you fits in the field. This tool allows you to field repair an electrical system on the spot and helps to reduce downtime.
I use this everyday at work, were it really makes this a great tool to have, I take it home with me and soldering wires on my truck in the engine compartment. A place we're you don't need anything else in your way like an extension cord.
Genuinely loved this iron at first, it worked better than the nice soldering station I bought at the same time, but the moment I began to use it more frequently, it started behaving oddly eventually leading to it melting its own housing.

Very unhappy

Love Milwaukee but the soldering iron is not worth the money. Had for less than a month. Used maybe 4 times and stopped working. Took it apart to see what was going on. The whole circuit board looks like it was melted. Is this normal?

Swing and a miss!
il y a 2 ans
Worked great for the first two 2.0 batteries then fell flat on its face and will not even get warm enough to melt butter. Great concept, but proven to be low end product severely lacking in longevity and durability. A one day wonder….

Great Idea, Poor Execution
il y a 4 ans
I too fell in love this product, but was quickly disappointed when the tip housing melted and it has became useless. What a let down. Purchased 12/18, used 8-10 times maybe before it self-destructed, expected more from Milwaukee.
Great idea, Used it twice and now the collar seems to be melting, i can't un-screw it anymore. I own over a dozen M18 and corded Milwaukee tools and they are all great. This one was my first M12 tool, even bought extra batteries.
Worked great for the first couple of times. Tried to use a month later and it doesn't heat up at all. Green light flashes and then nothing.
Very disappointing for a Milwaukee tool! From the reviews it sounds like a known problem.

Needs Improvement!
il y a 2 ans
Like many other reviews on here, the plastic collar melted on mine as well. Pretty disappointed in the reduction of quality lately with most Milwaukee products. Luckily the eService replaced the entire unit under warrantee.
Great concept and very convenient. However, as mentioned in other reviews, with extended use the threaded plastic retaining collar begins to melt. And this piece is not available as a replacement part. Very diasappointed.

Not sure if I would buy again. Not durable.
il y a 3 ans
Worked really well at first. After about the 10th time it failed to heat up right in the middle of my project. Kind of expensive to fail this quick. I have many many Milwaukee tools. Have been buying for at least 20 yrs.
Great portable unit that works as described. heats up fast and the fine tip is ok for a majority of electronic projects. A big improvement of other battery based irons. Beat having something plugged in...
Very handy, fast to heat up, used it 3 days in a row but the 3rd day I was interrupted and left it on, the piece that holds the top on melted very disappointing since I’ve owned it 3 days and really liked it!

I have had this tool for about a year and a half, but used it very little. Maybe 3 batters worth, but it has quite heating. It just flashes green.
Very disappointing knowing the quality they usually have.

I’m an auto elec so I use this tool a lot. Owned less than a month and the collar on the tip has melted causing the the tip to move. Apart from this, it works great. I would buy again if this flaw is fixed.

As a pinball tech a cordless soldring iron is the holy grail of tools. the M12 fit the bill perfectly, however after some use the tip gets soft and the cheap plastic its made of starts to soften and melt..
