I would avoid this one.
il y a 11 mois
So I bought this awhile ago, for “just in case” situations. Never really used it for longer than 2-3 mins, first time of using it for 7+ mins the collar metaled and the element broke. I love Milwaukee, I have probably close to 8k in their tools and packouts. Besides their m12 6 amp batteries this this is my only issues with them.
The soldering iron heats up quickly and it is so easy to use. There is not any cord to get in the way or propane to constantly refill. It works great in tight places, such as soldering wires in my Chevelle under the dash and when i rewired our car trailer. Good light indicator to show when it is on and when it has cooled off.
Did anyone actually test this product?? The light is on the wrong side for soldering!! Either put 2 lights on it or move the existing light 180 degrees so it works for the 45 and 90 degree positions. Tool needs temperature regulation of low, medium and high. Its too hot for small stuff. On off switch is a little clumsy.
I am a field electrician for a helicopter company and this is perfect for soldering applications where we can't get an extension cord to our work area. I would like to see at least solder, and a sponge in the kit though. I still recommend this kit for anyone who needs a soldering iron outside or in a field environment.
Unit worked good first couple uses, after trying new battery the unit does not heat up, lights all come on, red go off shortly and green continues to blink for a few seconds then shuts off. Clear work light on end comes on as sell and shuts off. Terrible tool for the cost to be defective so soon after a couple uses.

I love it, but...

I really like this soldering iron. You can't beat the convenience, and it heats up well enough for the toughest automotive connections, and is fine enough for my HAM radio work. My only disappointment was that recently when soldering some 10 gauge wire to an alligator clip for a jumper wire, I noticed that the plastic collet that the outer element screws into had started melting, and the outer element was bending to almost a 45 degree angle! I turned it off and gently moved it back to the correct position before the plastic cooled, but the thread in the plastic collet is now pretty much shot, and I am worried it will be weaker now, and just melt again. I would have expected some sort of heat resistant material in this critical fitting, but appears not. I didn't have it on for more that maybe 10-15 mins, so I am now turning it on for just a few minutes and turning it off between processes, which is painful waiting for it to reheat and use unnecessary battery power.

Major flaw in plastic collar
il y a 3 ans
I brought this product a few months ago as I make my own LED tape lights. This was great the 1st time I used it but upon using today for around 90 mins I found the plastic collar near the hotend has melted whilst working and make the tip insecure. I wouldn't have expected this for Milwaukee and are very disappointed

Great soldering iron while it worked. has enough heat for 6mm auto wire and anderson lug soldering. then like everyone els the resin ring at the top crumbled while using it and the head broke off. now its useless. cant get parts. waste of money. lasted only a couple of months. WAS my fav milwaukee tool. not anymore.
Hello, we are sorry to hear that our M12™ Soldering Iron Kit hasn't been performing to your expectations. We will be in contact shortly to provide further assistance. Thanks- Will with Milwaukee Tool

Didn't get the chance for the collar to melt.

It worked 2 or 3 times before the trigger wouldn't function correctly. The only way to get mine to heat is to put hard pressure on the trigger after turning it to on. If I let go, the led turns red and starts to cool down. Like everyone else all my other Milwaukee tools generally work like expected, if not better.
This is the 2nd soldering iron ive bought in the last year and my boss is on his 2nd one as well. They worked great then suddenly one day i would cut them on and the light would keep blinking and it would never heat up. Their is a major issue with these and for something i use daily at work its just not reliable.
Only used the iron maybe 4 times and had it for less than a year, and I noticed that the Knurled Fastener melted making the sleeve guard bent. When trying to straighten the sleeve guard out, back to how it was, the hearing element broke.
This is a bad design. It’s a very pricey iron to have parts melting.
I’m an avid hobbyist and when I saw this thing I fell in love! Cordless? M12? Heck yeah, I’ve owned it about a month and same as everyone else, the tip housing started to melt, it busted off mid solder and broke the heating element that runs along the inside of the top. Non replaceable part unfortunately :(
My m12 solder iron does not turn on anymore. Yesterday it was working fine. I only used it a few times and solder no longer then 5 to 10 min at a time. I can't find my receipt and know I'm screwed. I wasted money thinking I was buying a milwaukee quality tool. I was very happy with until today it failed.

Really great and handy tool, until it melts itself
il y a 4 ans
I did quite a bit of soldering with mine before the collar eventually melted and failed, just like everybody else. It's very handy to not have to worry about a cord when you're soldering in tight places or inside a vehicle. If they could just fix this one thing, the tool would be an absolute Grand Slam.

I'm having the same problem a week after I purchased the soldering iron the tip started melting luckily it hasn't melted enough to fall off but every time I need to tighten the tip down I can't because it just spins I ended up super gluing it to keep it and tell they came out with a repair or something

Great product... if it works.
Have the same melting problem as many others.
Tool is perfect, comfortable to use, fast heating and ready for work.
But after several small jobs done, the plastic part holding tip just melted. Seems, engineering fail, that part should be metal or more durable plastic.

just like everyone else my plastic collar has melted of all the Milwaukee tools i have bought this is the one purchase i regret . For what i paid for this you would think Milwaukee would make parts available rather than just saying sorry . Horrible design flaw to bad as when it worked i liked it
So disappointed! The Milwaukee engineering department is really falling off a cliff! This thing melted down in a 60 degree F cold climate during its first use. Clearly there's something wrong with the temperature regulation and/or the plastics selected. What are you guys doing over there?!

Melted like others

I was using this for small jobs, wiring harness install in an old car, just little soldering things and loved the fact it was so small and convenient. The last time I used it the tip melted off, it is just over a year old and not used more than a handful of times. Very disappointing.
Hello duvaldg, thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention and we are sorry to hear about your recent experience with your M12 Soldering Iron. We will follow up via email. Thank you-Mackenzie

stopped working after a year
il y a 4 ans
I bought this about a year ago. I use it mostly for tinning wires, nothing heavy. Last time i went to use it , it heated up fine then just died. changed the battery still doesn't get hot just flashes green led. It does not seem that the element is replaceable. very disappointed.

Melting collar
il y a 5 ans
I’m an avid hobbyist and love the cordless aspect. However after a few uses the collar started to melt, and like in other reviews once it’s hot And you apply a little pressure the whole tip moves. Very disappointed. What’s even more disappointing is it’s not a serviceable part.

I have one of these collecting dust as it quit working after I used it about 5 times. It was truly awesome when it was working correctly. If I knew it wouldnt break again, I'd buy another, but it appears I am not the only one having this issue. I expected better of Milwaukee.

Great product while it worked

Great product while it worked. It hasn't had a hard life. Went to use it a week ago. Green light started flashing but wouldn't heat up. Disappointing. I would consider buying another if the issues were worked out. In the meantime back to my Weller Propen for cordless work.
I used this tool three times today and on the third deans connector the tip collar melted this is only the fourth time using it since I bought it back in October of 2020. I really hope milwaukee makes it up in customer service and is able to rectify the problem with me.

Works great while it works - maybe lasted 30 uses.

I have owned this soldering iron for 4-5 years and it has quit. Light flashes green but does not heat up. Unfortunately based off date it is not under warranty. I would consider this lifespan acceptable if I was using it a lot but it’s been used maybe 4-5 times a year.

Melted collar, wish I’d had read these reviews

Very little use and the collar melted and tip snapped off, very dissatisfied with this tool, I have many Milwaukee tools and this one just isn’t worthy of the name.
Can these be repaired? I’m guessing not looking at the other reviews, disappointed to say the least

Very let down!
il y a 4 ans
Very dissapointed that the heating element broke after it's first use!
I had used it to complete a job that took around 10 mins. Went to use it again 2 days later and found that the heating element was broken.
Not the standard i'd grown to expect from Milwaukee.
If you use this for what it is intended for, it’s a fantastic tool!! The little details make the difference. The light, the drip guard, the adjustable angle, all wonderful. Super fast cycle times, low battery draw, hot enough for 12 gauge wire, can’t say enough.
Poor product quality, after only a few hours of use the unit quit heating up. Tried new battery, all lights come on, red go off shortly after while green light keeps blinking for a few seconds longer before going off along with white work light on end of unit.
