Be careful great when it worked
il y a un an
Bought this because it was hot right away! used it 20 or 30 times around my garage on speaker cables after every solder I would turn it off and then I soldered a # 4 speaker cable together and noticed the end melted. Would not work after that tore apart and found the white heating rod breaks in these. Not worth the money but really wanted it to work rather than a butane iron. Plus I have alot of M12 tools I use. Just my luck though

Very Useful Tool...Lacking Milwaukee Durability
il y a 5 ans
I have had this tool for several years. Very useful.
Recently the ceramic heater went bad and the red temperature indicator
light stays on..(???)....I didn;t expect this in as much as my useage has been light duty
and somewhat infrequent.
I would recommend to a friend but I would caution him about durabilty
question .
I hope Milwaukee improves this tool...it is really quite useful
and I really like it except durability
I own a lot of Milwaukee cordless products. I haven't had much issues until I used this product. Yes I fell victim to the Melt Down. After 15mins of used the plastic collar melted and the tip bent over. Milwaukee needs to recall this defected product too many customers have had the same melting issues... This is impacting your brand. I sign of a good company is what they do when there products are defective don't be a Boeing.

What size fuse do I get. . .
il y a 4 ans
I've used this thing for over a year and a half for car audio. To pcb boards at work. . . Never had it melt nor break on me. . . However soldering three 14ga wires together it got real hot at the base of the tip. . . Then stopped working all together. The sefuse is bad in it but I can't find the correct size one to replace it with and the letters were more or less rubbed off once removed. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Preforms great for small soldering jobs and very happy with the overall idea of this tool. But after only a month of use on small soldering jobs, the plastic holding the tip melted and now the tip won't securely tighten. Worst yet when you apply any light pressure on the tip makes it move and the whole tip and heating element broke. I strictly use Milwaukee for my company and this did not hold up to Milwaukee standards.

I think I figured out the melting tip problem
il y a 3 ans
I've had my iron for at least two years with no problems using the 2 ah small battery. Yesterday for the first time ever I put a 6 amp hour battery on it and within 10 minutes the plastic tip base melted. I believe the 3 or 6 AH batteries allows the iron to draw extra current and that cause the base to melt. It's a great iron that will last a long time as long as you only use the 2 amp hour battery and nothing larger.
I own a number of Milwaukee cordless tools. This will be the last one i purchase.
I am extremly dissapointed. The tool fail just like others posted here. The end of the tool melted. I gave it the tool truck I purchased it from to send out for repair. A month later it was returned in the same condition. The authorized repair outlet said there was nothing the could do fo me. This will be my last Milwaukee purchase.

Edit to my post
il y a 2 ans
I originally posted a review here on this soldering iron stating how I was super impressed and happy with the soldering iron other than the fact the plastic piece had melted, not sure if it was my fault for leaving it on to long. Milwaukee reached out to me and made the situation right. They stand behind their products, 110%. I can't wait to start using my Milwaukee M12 again. Just wanted to update me other post.
Great product idea, clearly lots of issues with the engineering design. Sooooo many failures documented online. Thermal fuses fail, heating elements fail. Some of the issues seem to be caused by using large batteries? Mine seems to have a failed main control board. LED blinks for a few seconds, stops blinking and the unit never heats up. Disappointing that such a convenient product wasn't engineered to last.

Make it serviceable and ad mid-heat setting please
il y a un an
We use a lot of these tools in our shop. Techs enjoy the cordless aspect and the heating power it provides very quickly. The first downside is it may be too hot for several applications/materials and there is no low heat setting. The second and most important disappointment comes from the non serviceable parts such as fuse or plastic collar which break too often and make this tool an expensive gadget.

Quit working fast
il y a un mois
I maybe a dozen uses out of it before it stopped working. Lights will flash like it's heating up and then just stops without heating up at all.
I am a contractor and switched from Dewalt a couple years ago buying into the milwaukee hype.
This piece of junk crops all over your name, and by reading the reviews, YOU KNOW about this problem but still choose to sell a defective product. Shame on you

Color melted after third use
il y a 4 ans
I absolutely loved this tool after I took it out of the box and started using it. The heat up time is outstanding and the different tips are nice. Unfortunately the last time I went to use this tool the collar melted. Instead of going for something cheaper I stepped up for Milwaukee’s version but looking back at it now I think that might have been a mistake, at least until they fix this issue.
The soldering iron works well until it fails in one of two ways, either the element fails to heat up or the collar gets too hot and melts or becomes really weak. both result in an unusable iron. I have had 9 of these on WARRANTY in 3 years. I am an auto electrician so they do get a work out but that is their job. I own 4 of these just to allow for failures and warranty replacement time.
Milwaukee M12 owner + solder?NO BRAINER = Buy this

This tool worked great in the two times I needed it so far. It heats up to soldering in no time. You could literally get all prep work done before you turn this iron on, only wait 20 seconds, and boom... You're soldering. Reason I suggest this is to conserve battery life. The pivoting head gives you options when it comes to angles and approaches whilst using the great little machine.
soldering iron has bad design where the plastic collet melts when it is on to long. i was able to push it back into place because it was soft but after so much times it will not stay anymore. i cannot get a replacement part or i cant return the product because i didnt keep the receipt. i dont understand why milwaukee doesnt come up with a fix to this issue that everyone is having.

Melted collar Nut to tool after 3 uses
il y a 3 ans
I have had this tool for a while, but today on third use, the heating element melted the Jam nut to the tool, rendering the tool useless. I caught it (possibly) before the whole thing broke off and snapped the internal heating element I have an arsenal of M18 and M12 tools and have dealt with some small nuances. This tool is great concept but poor design. Do not recommend.
I have purchased six of these units over the last three or four years. They last about 3-5 months then die. When working they are a great tool, heats fast and works great. By far the best option for upfitting trucks like we do, but I can't keep throwing money away hoping Milwaukee solves the issue. We have taken two apart and replaced the fuse on the board, to only fail again

Disapointing Meltdown
il y a 4 ans
I used this cordless soldering iron frequently in my job for indusrtial applications for the past 2 yrs. I have many Milwaukee cordless tools. This was my favorite until the collar that keeps the tip stable melted. The melted collar is not replaceable and now this tool is useless. This is a fatal design flaw and happens with constant use,as described in many negative reviews.

Loved it, until it died.
il y a 6 mois
Loved using the irons, until two of them died. I have purchased two of these irons and not because I needed two. First one lasted about a year, the second about the same. These irons have not been used that much on a month to month basis nor abused in that time. My most recent iron I used on less than 50 solder joints/wires before it died. Not exactly a great track record..

2488-20 - m12 soldering iron melted collar
il y a 3 ans
I used it very little, and when I used it today I noticed the element assembly was drooping. I found the neck holding the steel tube for the tip has melted beyond use. I am very disappointed. All my cordless tools are Milwaukee and love them. I appreciate help with my soldering iron. I need the collar? It is less than a year old, please honor the 5 year warranty. Thank you

Great product but durability is shot.
il y a 4 ans
This has been a great product, quick and reliable. I have only had this tool for a few months and then yesterday, the entire tip, it's holder and heater broke off and landed in my lap. Burning my clothes and my groin. No warning, no noticeable signs of damage or failure. I have an almost entirely Milwaukee brand power tools even their accessories. I am very upset with this.
I have a whole van and shop full of Milwaukee equipment. I love not being tied to an extension cord. I have 2 m18 chop saws, the m18 table saw and just about everything else. Was excited about this soldering gun, so I would not have to rely on a cord or butane. It worked great the first time, second tome I had to put the nipple back one, third time I broke in half.
Reguardless of reviews i had seen i figured i would give it a shot, and i am so glad i did. This is my new favorite iron for any automotive work. It is not made for small electronics because it is a bit bulky, but it is great for engine bay, under dash, and frame side soldering. Love it and it seems like the problem with the tip retainer melting has been fixed.
I solder daily either in the shop or on a job site. This iron is amazing! Feels good in the hand, heats up quick and last a decent amount of time. My only problem is there are only two available styles of tips and you can’t use other standard tips with this iron. For the work I do I could really use some other common styles of tips especially a ultra fine tip.
this product is like using a baseball bat.. its bulky and heavy and unbalanced. I wish i could say more.. than that. i hold have hold they when with a pen like design with a battery pack or something a bit more field ready. this thing is only good to solder ends of loose wires or something big but you will mess up or burn off any IC or pads if you use this.
I have now had 2 of these. First one worked great for about a week then just quit. I figured maybe just a dud. Was able to exchange in and second one worked for 1 day. Used second one maybe a handful of times on the first day soldering 16-18awg wires, came back next day and nothing. Changed batteries 4.0 or 6.0 just nothing. Really frustrated and let down

Love this tool, only one flaw
il y a 5 ans
I love how versatile this soldering iron is, and is the only one I carry with me to job sites. it works great and is fast, the only problem is the same thing I have seen in the other reviews. The collar that holds the tip to the tool is plastic and has just broke on me, I believe it is because of too many heat/cool cycles weakened the plastic.

Love it when it’s working, right

I use this tool for small projects in my garage, such as working on my Harley or wiring up a stereo in a car. This is the second soldering iron I’ve had from Milwaukee for the most part when it’s working right it’s amazing I’ve noticed that the tip heats up and the end of it melts off from the plastic molding on both of the s irons I’ve had

worked so good we purchased one per tech
il y a 6 ans
there is a review of someone saying its bulky, its no different than the Bluepoint that we have been using for over 15 years tho it requires butane.this item is amazing , we use it every day and it has been amazing especially when it is ready with in 18 seconds. we speak from experience and it works. worked so good we purchased 1 per tech
I have only had this for a little while but super happy about how quickly it heats up. Much quicker than the corded version I had. Seeing some issues with users and it overheating after time so will be conscious of that. Only complaint so far is that there is no storage on the tool for the second tip. That is getting lost for sure.
