seemed like a professional tool at the time
il y a 3 ans
I got this as a gift last year , I'm a professional auto tech and use soldering irons in the shop all the time. When I got this , I loved how it felt sturdy and would stand on its own when using the larger square batteries. I gladly gave up my butane powered soldering iron for this one. But now it stopped working and I'm greatly disappointed. My first reaction is to replace the tool , but I see I'm not the only one with a failure. I'm not inclined to get another given the amount of failures out there. Even if its warrantied , I still have to return it and wait for another. Too bad ,it could have been a great tool for the pros out there .

Love this soldering Iron
il y a 3 ans
The first time I ever used one was my bosses, then I bought my own. Ive had mine for well over a year, and has taken many plunges to the floor off my tool cart getting bumped. The only issue I see is if youre doing a solder project, leave it on, dont turn off/turn on, this will help your battery life. Those complaining it dont warm up, start with a fresh battery EVERY TIME. Most of us also buy an extra battery too. I used this gun for atv/utv/snowmobile accessories, building wire harnesses and fixing electrical. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!! They may have had a bad run of the soldering irons from factory, but I have honestly havent had a problem with mine.
I am an Automotive instructor at a vocational high school and we bought three 2488-20 Soldering Irons. We bought one to try and it worked so well we bought two more. We have had to send the first one out for repair and now returning to school we try the other two and they are not working. One green light always flashes and the other the red lights blink real quick and the iron shuts down. They are not used daily and do not have a lot of time on them . When they worked they were great, I love Milwaukee tools and we try buy and use them at the school but I don't think the soldering irons are up to be used at a professional level.

Really, plastic on a soldering iron???
il y a 2 ans
I am the Glass Specialist at an Architectural Salvage and repair leaded windows for a living. My work bought me this device along with the mobile Pin-Nailer and Dremel and an extra rechargeable battery to better do my job. After a couple of sittings with the Soldering Iron, I noticed the smell of burning plastic and the metal gradually sloping up with the pressure.
I think that this product is great in theory, but terrible in practice. I hope that there is an updated product that has resolved this issue, and that uses the same battery so I do not have to return all related tools.
Is there anyone who can help me?
I absolutely love my M12 tools so I was really disappointed when this happened yesterday. I have had this iron for over a year now and it has worked flawlessly until yesterday. Had a big job to do and right in the middle of it the tip started moving on the iron. I looked at it and couldn't believe what I was seeing, the whole tip holder was melting..... As you can see in the pictures the plastic tip holder will not hold up to the big jobs. It has stiffened up once it cooled down but the tip holder is shot. Cant seem to find a replacement part for it either. Other than that this thing is one of my favorite M12 tools
This tool is the best cordless soldering iron I've used. I have disliked butane ones because they tend to burn either other wires around it, you or sensitive plastic around where your working. I've been an aftermarket technician for about 8 years now. Working in tight places where can get a bit tricky with the size of the tool, but that downfall is outweighed by the usefulness. No need to refill constantly, or exaust to worry about. I would recommend having 2 batteries because it does chew through them pretty fast. Heats us very fast, ready to solder in about 30 seconds. Overall a very handy tool that works well.
I bought one iron about a year ago and loved it. I did small wire repairs at work with it as a mechanic. It lasted a year doing one wire here and there as simple repairs. I started an electrical project for myself and my first iron died so I sent that out for repair but being in the middle of my project I bought a second one off the same tool truck I sent the first one back with and not even a few days later the second one did the same thing it blinks but won’t heat up so now I have two paper weights. These are great if you only need to fix one wire but if you have multiple stick with propane

Great product, not great communication
il y a 3 ans
I have owned one of these for about 12 months, worked fine till it stopped heating up, replaced the unit, when I was talking to the guy at the store I bought it from he informed me there was an issue with the 6.0Ah batteries not being able to regulate the voltage with this tool. It appears quite common looking at the threads my question is why is this not being relayed to people buying the product, if this is a known issue it should be addressed by Milwaukee not hidden. For customers to find out in the middle of a job, poor form… but still the best battery operated iron on the market.
Thank you for your review. We appreciate your honest feedback and we will pass this information along to our team. Please feel free to contact us at socialmedia@milwaukeetool.com if you would like further investigation into this matter. Thank you. -Cayla
