Great versatility, slightly shortsighted.

Love the chest for the most part. I use it as a travelling journeyman mechanic and bought 2 of the three drawer boxes to add to this. The big box holds the long stuff and big stuff (blow molded cases of tool kits) perfectly but in attaching the two other boxes I have a slight problem with the design. One box is accessible without any issue, the three drawer on the wheel side is inaccessible without unhooking it and turning it, thus making it easier to tip over. All the boxes that would attach should do so in a fashion that they can be opened while clicked into the rolling tool chest. If that could be done, I would give this a 10 star review.
This is a very nice box except one glaring design fault. Both of the locking spaces on it face the same direction. Example, when you put 2 boxes on top you can only access one of them. The one at the wheel end has the latches drawers facing the other box. You cannot access the latches without removing the box and turning it around. What's more removing box is difficult without removing the one on the handle end because of the narrow gap between them. The engineer who designed this clearly never had to use it. It would be nice if Milwaukee would offer a new lid with both mounts facing away from the center.
Thank you for your review. We appreciate your honest feedback and we will pass this information along to our team. Please feel free to contact us at socialmedia@milwaukeetool.com if you would like further investigation into this matter. Thank you. -Cayla

Good not GREAT

I am a professional Generator Excitation Field Engineer. I am in all sorts of situations from nice cement to going across rocks with tools and test equipment to replace old generator control systems. This system is helpful. The locking cases adds additional stability. I would like to be able to lock several of these together on a dolly / cart with 4 wheels. I would like them to lock on top of my job boxes. I have one , I also have the rolling tool box, XL toolbox, the large toolbox, and a bunch of smaller stuff. I hope Milwaukee brings this to the next level by understanding space, terrain, and ability to move more. Love the little divider boxes for lugs, ferrules, small hardware, etc.
The lid on the Rolling Chest has one-half of the cleat nocks oriented in the wrong direction. I chose the chest thinking that I could create a work bench in the field with drawers facing me. Not only can that not happen but it can be difficult to even release whatever boxes are stacked on the wheel side. Give us a choice of lid orientation or at least reverse one side or turn both columns to the side. The chest is a good concept; levels, wrecking bars, other long tools. It would be more worth the money if Milwaukee would include dividers.
The packout system is a must for anybody in the trades, but I got this as a Christmas gift, expecting to have some dividers for it. Come to find out, it doesn’t come with any nor is there any available to purchase. All my tools end up at the bottom as I roll it around, leaving a mess. I bought these things to stay organized, not to organize it every time I open it up!
Hopefully you guys come out with the dividers ASAP, and provide them to people who have already purchased the rolling tool chest!
It's good for storage, but not for mobility. It could use a few engineering modifications. The wheels need to be set further back or larger and possibly the handle set to the bottom side of the chest, to be more like a hand cart. It is nearly impossible to safely go up or down stairs, the chest catches on every step. The chest is awkward to push or pull due to the handle location, especially when loaded. I returned the unit and purchased two of the smaller rolling toolboxes
One unfortunate thing I discovered was that the chest was missing an insert organizer basket, and I can’t buy one anywhere. I looked into third-party options, but to no avail. It seems that if you lose the original organizer, you’re out of luck.
I bought the chest to carry tools for projects and to use as a storage bin in my SUV. It fits perfectly in the back of the trunk. Whenever I need to transport ice or other items that might spill, I place them in the chest.

Simpler is better

We do appliance installation, cabinet work, and other home repairs. We were having a rough time staying organized, managing loose items, and having too many bins and tool boxes to manage. Invested in Packouts, and what a massive relief! We now have the back seat of the truck free for passengers, our in and out on each job is efficient and simple, and couldn't be more pleased with the result. We'll definitely be using Packouts for all our trucks in the future!
