Do not dis assemble the arbor right out of the container. I have other hole saws with a common arbot that screws into place and relies on flats on the threaded shaft to prevent rotation of the saw blade. The problem with this design is that it uses a detent designed with a ball bearing, spring and small allen head screw that forces the ball bearig into a groove on the arbor shaft. If you pull the arbor apart like I did, the ball bearing and spring fall out. Fortunately, I found the ball bearing right away. Unfortunately, it took me 15 mintues of chinese puzzle playing and looking on line for documentation (which I couldn't find on the Milwaukie web site) before I determined that there must be a spring as part of the detent design. Luckily I found the spring and assembled it with some lock-tite blue to hold the screw in place.Now the arbor works well, but the saw blade still has a little play in the rotation because you have the pins on the sliding collar have to align with the holes in the base of the saw blade. I hope this saves a few headaches... Milwaukie, either change the desigh or put some directions on the cotainer, a "do not disassemble" or other thing that prevents us idiots from assuming this kind of mistake.

This is a very nice tool that works very well. I bought it to use with large hole saws for wood and they work together quite well. This is a very solid tool that gives the user a lot of confidence in the kind of job that has a relatively high risk of both injury and part damage. The only real flaw I found is that this otherwise solidly built chuck has a set screw lock for the arbor that has an allen key size of apparently 2mm (that's not actually indicated anywhere, but 3/32 is clearly too large and 5/64 is too small). What this means is that the first time I tried to tighten down the set screw it rounded out and the arbor was permanantly stuck with the hole saw I'd just put in place. After considerable work I was able to loosen the set screw just enough that I can engage and disengage the arbor lock now to trade out hole saws, but I'll never be able to lock it down again. If I could somehow back the set screw the rest of the way out I could replace it with a case-hardened set screw, or better yet just a machine screw so I could get a good hold on it if it jammed again, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards. It seems to operate safely without locking down the arbor, so it's still a functioning tool and it otherwise does its job well. The design should be modified to allow a slightly larger set screw with a larger allen key size so that it won't be so easily damaged.

What a ridiculous thing. Apparently, nearly everyone who's purchased the 3/8" Hole Saw Arbor from Milwaukee has fallen for the same cruel trick. Milwaukee apparently thought it would be funny to provide a product that is nowhere near intuitive with absolutely no instructions, whatsoever. Chuckles in the Milwaukee product development meeting..."Let's also dangle a carrot...everyone who has ever used a hole saw is used to unscrewing a set screw in order to attach the arbor to the blade. So let's put a small, METRIC allen-head set screw that is not supposed to be removed, in plain view. That way, assuming they don't first strip the head trying to use a standard, non-metric allen wrench, once the set screw is removed, some little tiny parts that the user wouldn't expect to be there, but are intregral to the proper operation of the product, will fall onto the saw-dust covered floor of their workshop. We'll make one of the parts spherical for a fast getaway, and the other will be a spring that can bounce across the room. They'll never find them; and better yet, most users won't even know that they've lost something! It'll be hilarious. We can even observe the frustration by keeping an eye on the hilarious product reviews that will pour in on our website. We won't provide any solutions; but occasionally, we can even invite one of the suckers to call us, like we're eager to fix the problem, or something." I would recommend staying away from Milwaukee products that aren't beer.
