I returned it.
il y a 9 ans
I agree with other comments here - product needs to come with instructions. I could not slide the collar out of the package, so made the mistake of loosening the small allen screw, after which the spring and ball bearing popped out and disappeared. I returned the product to the retailer. I also do not know whether I need the 3/8 or 1/2 version. Product simply needs instructions!
This was included in the Milwaukee 14 piece bi-metal hole saw set. Simply pull back the collar, thread on the hole saw and push the collar back. The threads are very good quality and clean, so the hole saw spins on effortlessly. Best of all, NO TOOLS REQUIRED! There is no need to remove the allen screw, it just destroys the arbor.
I know it's not that intuitive, but to use this you need to pull the collar to expose the shank where your hole blade will fit. Once you screw it on, then push the collar back to lock the blade in place. Took all of 1 minute to figure this out and there's no need to remove the allen screw. Good luck folks and hope this helps.

Add me to the list of missing spring / bearing
il y a un an
Add me to the list of people who have now a useless arbor because of a silly little spring and bearing that somehow went missing. I had no idea that those bit even existed until searching the part number and finding the reviews here trying to figure out how this was actually supposed to work. Pretty disappointing.
After reading the on-line reviews I realized how quick and easy it is to use this product. However, I should not have to search the internet for reviews to figure this out. It is very easy but not immediately intuitive and I almost returned it like others. If I don't know how it works it has no value.
I bought the 4" hole saw for sutting light fixture boxes and the quick change arbor to fit it. It says pull to release on the package, but fails to mention you must first loosen the allen screw in the tool free design statement. Didn;t feel so dumb after reading the other comments in the reviews.
My only complaint would be that the set screw design for holding the arbor in place is not intuitive. One of my workers lost the ball bearing and spring the first time useing it. I'll purchase a new arbor and give specific instructions to workers who might try to use it in the future.

Bad design, but like the attempt
il y a un an
Love the feature of the quick design, but unfortunately like all the rest already stated, the bearing and spring fell out making it useless. I wouldn’t buy this again. Wasn’t able to find the proposer size bearing or spring to make a repair either, so off to the garbage it goes.

Nice tool poor instructions
il y a 8 ans
Poor explanation. I spent time trying to unscrew the set screw until I found out that the set screw must be left alone. I am glad I found out online before I bought an allen wrench to remove the set screw and ruin the tool. It is a great tool once I learned how to use it.
Yes, also lost the spring on the first use. Wish I had read the reviews here before purchasing and saved myself some grief (and money). Too bad Milwaukee Tools don’t do recalls like car manufacturers when there is a defect with their product (or perhaps a warranty?).

don't buy
il y a 2 ans
I can't use the product anymore due to missing the spring and ball bearing that easily are lost when the set screw is removed. I think it's a bad design where parts can easily be lost when the screw is removed. I would not recommend this tool due to this "feature".
Like some others, I lost the tiny spring that holds the ball bearing in place for the quick change portion. The set screw just up and came out while drilling. I want to love this, but now I’m pretty much out an arbor. I like the idea, but couldn’t recommend.

Missing Ball Bearing
il y a 2 ans
I have used this arbor several times, great device. Using it this morning I too notice the spring and ball bearing missing?
I would prefer replacing the set screw, ball Bearing & spring to purchasing an entire new Arbor?
Please advise, thank you.

Instructions Below
il y a 4 ans
First, pull DOWN on the largest part of the shaft until it moves about 1/2 inch. Screw on your hole saw. Before you are done, unscrew it just a tiny bit so that the guide holes are aligned.... Now just pull UP on the shaft to lock it into place.
It seems like I’m having the same issue as everyone else. Does anyone have pics or instructions on how to put or where does the small ball bearing and spring go to? Thanks in advance.
FYI: I’m going to use it on fiber glass, hope that’s ok!
Same as most other reviews. Works great until you lose the spring and set screw. Spent considerable amount of time looking for a bill of material to repair. Somehow stumbled on this review list. Would not recommend.

missing parts render useless tool
il y a 2 ans
I have had the same problem as everyone else and missing the ball bearing and now have a construction themed paper weight... can't find replacement parts or indication of parts on milwaukee site or any other.
Bought the quick change hole saw today, went to adjust the drill bit length and the hex nut bolt warped completely. Now, there is no way to adjust or remove the drill bit. Not a good look for the first day...

Great idea, but not ready for prime time

Like others, I lost the ball bearing detent after <10 uses. It's a great concept, but clearly the ball bearing retention in the arbor needs work. How can I get a replacement ball bearing?

I am an electrician and use hole saws quite often. Pilot bit broke and the set screw split in half while trying to change. Can't find a set screw. Garbage.
We are sorry to hear about your experience with your tool! The pilot bit set screw size is ¼-28". Please let us know if you have any additional questions. - The Social Team
