[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This Irwin/Lenox/Strait-Line chalk box is a nice package, chalk-box and blue chalk to fill it for a competitive price. It has an elastomer over-mold which gives a good grip and will keep it from sliding off a roof or provide a cushion it when it does fall off. The fill door is simple, secure and convenient. The 100 ft (30 meter) line is twisted, so the print is a bit fuzzy, but it will snap several marks without re-winding. Braided line is available in the aftermarket if you want to snap a more precise line once. The rewind crank is metal, which corrects a weak point in many chalk boxes and the 6:1 rewind ratio will reel in 100 ft in 18 seconds. The yellow button is a clutch- push it to pull line without the handle spinning, and likewise, when you’ve retrieved the line & need to backwind to nest the handle in its slot, press the button to disengage the crank. There’s a line across the bottom (but no point) in case you need to use it as a plumb bob. The hook is stout and nests nicely into the top. If you need a chalk box, this is a good value. You’ll want at least two, blue for temporary marks, red for permanent.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the chalk reel approximately 2 weeks ago. I am a 69 year old, retired civil engineer and now a handyman for all my acreage projects. I have a project where I am building a raised bed small flower bed, and need to rip cut some of the 2 x 6 boards. I used the chalk reel to set the marks for the rip cutting. I find the chalk reel easy to use. It has a feature that is really nice, a push button on the handle that, when pushed, allows the user to pull on the reel, dispensing line without the handle having to rotate. It saves time in that you can push the button with your hand in any position and not have to worry you hand will be in the way of the rotating handle. The 100 foot length is also handy, as you can use the line as a makeshift string line for small fencing and small concrete form setting projects. The handle is a bit difficult in winding up the string line, but I may have put too much chalk into the reel in the beginning. The loading procedure for adding chalk is unique and makes it easy to add chalk without a lot of spillage. This is a solid product, good hand grip available, easy to spot with the blue color. This chalk reel is a solid product for the professional as well as the handyman. Easier to use than other reels I have used and/or owned.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the 100 foot Irwin Strait-Line Pro chalk line when I was building a wooden deck to install a 4x9 metal storage shed on. The strait line is a little thicker than most chalk lines. It is made of plastic with a rubber bumper molded all the way around the side edges to protect it against damage. You need to twist the top where the line comes out to unlock the door to load in the chalk. Very nice feature. The line hook is well built and easy to hook and line up with your mark. The hook is made to hold onto the wood and not slip so you get a Nice visible blue line. After using a few times the crank handle does not lock back in the cut out and can be easily fixed. Press the yellow button in on the center of the crank and rotate the crank to re-align knob with the cut out. The only thing I have found that I don’t like about the design is when you push the yellow button to re-align the crank, it takes a turn or two for the crank to lock back into the gears and it takes some time to get used to the feeling of the gears. With that said, Overall I really like the design of this chalk line and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a good quality chalk line. Also with it having 100 feet of string you can use it for making long straight level lines for roofing, siding, and marking plum when using as a plum line (plum bob).
