I liked it so much I bought another one!
il y a 4 ans
About 10 years ago I bought a 455 Rancher chainsaw. It has served me very well. Made of quality materials and excellent construction and with only minor yearly maintenance, an extremely reliable chainsaw. After 10 years of hard use the old girl was starting to show her age. I was so pleased with the reliability of this model, I bought another one, as I must always have a good chainsaw available. Just for the heck of it, I took the old Rancher and cleaned and replaced some minor parts as fuel lines, filter, spark plug, screws etc.. Guess what, it starts and acts like a new chainsaw. I normally do not write product reviews. But in this case I have to say, Well done Husqvarna !!!

Few issues - not with functionality
il y a 7 ans
I did not get a case with the saw just a blade cover which I drilled a hole in and attached it to the handle with a bungee cord. When changing the blade, the emergency lock got thrown accidentally and I had to take cover off and put pliers in a vice and twist the cover to pop the emergency brake back to disengage. It would have also liked to have gotten a chainsaw wrench tool as some of the nuts vibrated off and I had the chain go flying while I was cutting. Fortunately, I found a few replacement nuts and didn't get hurt. Regardless, I LOVE this saw!. I still have a Craffsman saw in it's case in my garage.. I guess it works, but I don't know for sure, because I use this one instead.
I bought my 455 Rancher back in 2005 after hurricane katrina made landfall. I was living in south Louisiana. I used that saw more than i care to recall. I cut everything i needed to with zero issues. Always used non-ethanol gas in it. This year as hurricane Ida made landfall again in south Louisiana it has seen additional action. It doesn't disappoint. The 20" bar does all i need it to. Largest tree fell to date was a 28" diameter pine tree 80' measured length. Now i had to whittle on the truck due to the diameter. Yet when it finally fell it shock the ground. Recently purchased a 24" bar and chain just in case I need something bigger. I appreciate the quality product at a very good price.
I upgraded from from A Sears (Poulan) saw. The old one lasted 12 years. This 455 Rancher is like night and day difference. Starts much easier, more power and less vibration. I read many reviews on different web sites and a few of them complain about hard starting and leaking chain oil badly. I must be a lucky one. This thing starts on the second or third pull and very little to no oil leaking. I may get a quarter size spot of oil under it after it sits for days after use. That tells me the oiler is working. The initial cost may seem a little high for a home owner saw, but I believe you get what you pay for. It appears to be well constructed and should be the last chainsaw I will need to buy.
I found a fairly significant oil leak from day one. I had not used the saw and left it inside the cab of my truck for two days. I estimate about 1 to 2 ounces drained from the sprocket side. I wiped it down, let it sit overnight and the leak persisted.
Dealer said many do leak, try running it and see if problem goes away. I did not accept this and he ultimately exchanged my saw with another new one, which I appreciated. This one leaks a few drops and I can live with this. The reservoir was full on both cases. I cannot recommend the product at this point but we will see over time.
I grew up a city slicker and a chainsaw was one tool my Dad never owned or needed to own. I could literally count all tow of the trees in my yard and one of them actually belonged to our neighbor. Now fast forward several years and I slowly migrated into the country life and loving it. My first REAL chainsaw is my Husky 455 Farm Rancher. This was purchased after I owned a few other makes, which is like swimming in the ocean with or without flippers, of course the Husky are my flippers. I LOVE everything about this saw and I see it being handed down to my son or daughter some day.
My old saw (3yr. old junk) gave out on me so started looking. I already have a 435(love it) so ended going with the 455. This thing cuts wood , I got the 20 inch bar and the first log I went to was a 38 inch ash. Boy did this chew it up and that is with the chain that came on the saw. It does like the fuel but that happens when you have the power. I don't think the saw is too heavy ( i am 53) cut all day with it. I don't usually say buy something but buy this. Watch which 455 you are looking at the 455e is a cheaper saw , get the 455 the bar is better you can grease the sprocket.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had this saw 10 years. I’m a homeowner who burns around 5 chords of wood every year. I mostly get wood from fallen trees.
This saw handles pretty much everything I throw at it. With the 20” bar I’ve cut 35” oak and it may slow down but it’ll get the job done. I’ve done the basic maintenance and kept the chain sharp/replaced when needed.
I did have a stuck piston ring which I had to take apart and replace, but I believe that was from using cheap two stroke oil. Since the repair I’ve only used Husky oil and haven’t had anymore issues. If I could improve something I wish it had a little more power but for the price of this saw I really can’t complain. I would recommend to a homeowner/farm level user.
I have a have a fire place insert that is used around the clock when the temp drops below 50 degrees. My chainsaw is ready for year round use; you never know when you may have access to free fire wood! Amazing how many friends / acquaintaces one can make with a relaible chainsaw!! This is a very hard working chain saw!! I've owned my chain saw for fifteen years; other than spark plug replacements; cleaing the the chain oil lines and keeping the air filter clean; there have been NO mechanical or parts failures. Cuts 30 inch rounds without a problem. This saw may out live me.....
I bought my husband this chainsaw 14yrs aga after he had gone through 2 (name started with a S) in less than 6months. We do a heavy amount of cutting hardwood for our woodstove, and the other brand just didn't stand up. For 14yrs all he had to do was cleaning, chain sharpening or new chain. I think he had tho replace the bar once. Finally one day it just plum gave out. He was devastated. This was April 2018. His birthday was May. The first thing I did was immediately go buy another Rancher 455 for him.
All of our outdoor equipment is Husqvarna! I won't buy another brand.
I own two Husqvarna 445 chainsaws and have been extremely happy with both. Both are getting old, so I purchased a new 455 Rancher just recently. I've used it twice and both times, after around 15 to 20 minutes of use, the chain pops off the bar. Trying to get the old chain on is impossible because when it pops off, it damages the chain. I've ruined two brand new chains this way. A new, undamaged chain goes on with ease, but I'm very frustrated with the fact that the way the chains continue to pop off with damage to the chain. I've used the 445 chainsaws extensively and have never had this issue with either one of them. For that reason, I would have a very hard time recommending the 455 Rancher to anyone.

Powerful and reliable
il y a 6 ans
I have been using the Husqvarna 445 since 2009, till it started breaking from extreme hard use. I got the new 455 Rancher and bought the hard case to protect it from weather and logs banging around a few weeks ago. It has the similar power and cutting as the old 371 xp and while feels heavy from all day use, but its a great workout for my body. I use the Husqvarna pre mix gas and would rather not use the ethanol gas to mix it as it would cause the carburator to have problems like the old 445. Keep in mind that the bigger the chainsaw is the heavy it will be with gas in it. Always try the models firsthand before you buy it by weight, feel, and how you use it. I guarantee it that you'll be more satisfied with it!

Beautiful machine
il y a 11 mois
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought the 455 Rancher over a Stihl and happy I did. This is a strong running machine that’s consistently easy to start hot or cold. Fuel economy is top notch. I feel like I’m cutting anywhere from an eighth to a quarter more wood per tank than with my old saw. Ergonomics are on par too. I feel like the handle is just right for me and the vibration of the saw is way improved over my old one as well. I don’t feel fatigued as quickly as I did with the old saw. All and all this is one beautiful pice of equipment that I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a new chainsaw.
I have own this chainsaw for a year and it is powerful. I have used other brands but they do not compare with reliability, construction and power of this 455 rancher. I have cut down over 30 trees just on my property from 6" diameter trunks up to 25" and it has zip through all of them. The balance and anti vibrating set up of the machine makes it easy to cut trees all day without fatigue. If you have been thinking about buying this chainsaw and have not made up your mind to purchase then stop thinking and go buy it. The only regret you will have is not buying it sooner.

Good Saw and even better when you mix w/ a 16” bar
il y a 11 mois
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It’s a good saw for what its intended for - large landowner / “rancher” jobs. Bought the saw in 2020 from an authorized dealer, who recommended the 455 rancher for my needs at the time. The 455 served well for dropping good size trees, clean up, and general large land owner demands. Over time I developed the “itch” and in 2024 bought a 372xp equipped with a 20” bar. The 455 also sported a 20” bar. I wasn’t going to dump my 455 since it had earned my trust, so I decided to turn it into a ripper, so to speak. I put a 16” X-Tough bar on itge 455 and X-Cut chain to match. Game Changing move as I personally feel I am getting the most out of the 455 now with this bar and chain combo, again all this from a land owner perspective.
I can't remember what year I bought this but several ago. I've been a full-time FF for well over 30 years and an ex Hotshot wildland FF. ALWAYS starts and runs great but I also maintain and only use premixed fuel for the last 3 years. The vibration dampening is impressive. I have used this model on wildland fires, disaster clean up, personal use and for my contracting company. Comparing this model to some other brands we use at the FD, hands down I would buy this model again except it is still great!
The compression release is a must for me

Saw Runs good, but leaks badly!
il y a 8 ans
Bought this saw last year brand new, and like others have said it leaks oil very bad. Yes all chainsaws will leak, but not the whole tank of oil! I love every thing else about this saw. (However it is farily heavy) Has plenty of power and starts great but the oil leaking out is ridiculous. Its a mess! Maybe you can include a pan with the saws to catch all the oil from them! This makes the second husquvarna saw that we have bought new, the first was a 345 and it just like the 455 leaked oil also. Husqvarna you have lost a loyal customer this time around. New saws dont leak the entire tank of oil out. and yes with this 455 it saw nothing but Husqvarna oil in it. I am a farm owner and used to do warranty work for other manufactures in my younger days.
After using a less expensive chainsaw for the past several years, I decided it was time to upgrade to a better machine. I am a homeowner who uses a chainsaw to clean up downed trees and limbs around the home and cut small amounts of firewood for campfires. After doing research I decided on the 455 Rancher. What a difference! The engine runs smooth, builds power quickly and the stock chain cuts through hardwood without effort. Very nice balance and easy to handle for a few hours without discomfort. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Little disappointed
il y a 5 ans
I bought the 455 Rancher 20” bar over the Stihl MS 271 Farm Boss 18” bar. I went through the owners manual to familiarize myself with the saw. I noticed the automatic oiler flow screw for a 20” bar was the 3rd position. I checked the saw and it was set on the 18” bar setting from the factory. So I adjusted it for the 20”. Even with the setting on 3 the chain heated up so hot it melted the paint and turned bar edge blue in the first use. I used the same bar oil that I use in my other saws with no problem. It uses a tank of oil to a tank of gas as it should so I don’t know what the problem is. But for the price I paid I didn’t expect a problem right out of the box on the first use. Other than that the saw starts fine and cut fine until the chain heated up.

Great mid-sized saw for ANYONE
il y a 3 ans
This was my first "real" saw. I needed something big enough to harvest firewood and clear some small trees. I started asking around about mid-sized (55cc-59cc) saws. My friends and co-workers, farmers and professionals alike all agree that the 455 is a "great little saw" . No one has anything bad to say about it. Even the staunch S-saw fanboys like the Husqvarna 455.
While out on a firewood-getting expedition with friends, my 455 rancher was the go-to saw while re-fueling, or touching up chains, heck even just needing a one-pull start, small saw to quickly limb or buck something. My only complaint isn't really a complaint at all. I really appreciate a full-wrap handle for cutting from the "right side" of the saw either left-handed or for falling trees. That's it.
First of all, I, like a lot of people, only need it a couple of times a year, but when I need a saw to work, I can count on this saw to work till the job is done. I gas it up, pull it once, it starts, I set it down and let it warmup. I grab it and let the chips fly. I bought it to clean up trees down on my mother's place after she experienced a tornado. I needed a powerful saw to cut away 8 or 9 good size trees. That thing worked for days and did so without a hitch. That was ten years ago. It still runs like new.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received my rancher as a gift from my wife after struggling with a cheaper saw for a couple years. It came out of the box with the throttle linkage not connected. About a year later I had to replace the carburetor. Both were handled at my local service provider with no expense and no hassle. The saw starts well every time, I use it a lot to run a small chainsaw mill. Seems a little under powered for the 20 inch bar that it came with. It uses alot of gas. But gets the job done every time without hassle.
This is my second 455 rancher. First one burnt up in a shop fire sadly. My second one did seem to have an issue with the chain brake. Had a part replaced and its been solid since. Owned the first one for 8 years, 24" bar and a skip tooth chain. Its my go to saw for just about anything. Has enough power to tackle any job i throw at it. Only wish they had larger dogs available for it... I would recommend this saw to anyone. It is finicky to start when hot for some people. But once you learn the saw its a breeze.

SO FAR GREAT
il y a 7 ans
I had some Oddball pieces that needed to be cut into usable firewood. Had two resaw and rip a lot wet maple. I used the premix fuel and ran three and a half tanks through the machine in approximately 4 hours time. It the saw cut flawlessly the whole time. Every time I refueled I checked and adjusted the chain tension and had no problem using it as it was designed to be used. So far I have not experienced any oil leaks. The machine is a bit on the heavy side and will fatigue you quickly during constant use.
I bought this saw in May to clear an area of woods to extend a Food Plot in Northern Michigan. I would highly recommend this saw. Followed the directions (easy to read) and the saw started up on the second pull. Motor was tuned perfectly and ran flawlessly. I noticed an extended run time than my other saw. No problems with kickback and the saw had virtually no vibrations, which i noticed less fatigue when i ran it all day for three days straight. This is a professional saw with a weekend use saw price.

Great saw!
il y a 4 ans
This was my first saw a few years ago when a tree fell and took out part of my fence as I needed a way to remove the tree before repairing the fence. I have had the saw for about 5 years and cut 6-10 full size trees with it. I learned a little maintenance goes a long way as it is important to remove buildup around the chain lube and flush the area out after each use. I did upgrade to the 20" blade and sharpen my own chains and this saw has been great and after a few years still starts fairly easy.
I bought this saw new 3 years ago and it has leaked bar oil from day 1. The stop switch is also in a bad spot and find myself hitting it while I'm in the middle of cutting all the time and if you ever take the side cover off when the brake is on you play hell trying to get the cover back on again. Other then them problems I have never had a problem starting my saw or problems with keeping it running and even though I'm not a logger I do heat with wood so I'm cutting my fare share thru out the year.
I bought this chainsaw last year for occasional use on my property. Nothing extravagant. I used it on a couple small jobs. After each use I clean it up, check the chain and oil. Then the chain simply keeps coming off, even cutting the smallest of twigs/trees. Naturally, I figure the chain needs to be tightened. Well, long story short, after repeated attempts to tighten the chain; remove the chain and clean the bar and sprocket; and reinstalling, the chain still falls off easily. I tried a new chain. No luck. And now, the chain will only stay on, but it won’t move (the sprocket locks up - and yes, I checked the safety feature). Bottom line, thought I was getting a reliable chainsaw that would last me for years, and looks like I got a lemon. Stihl and the older Craftsman’s are far better.
I purchased this saw several years ago. I have two wood burners and consume 5-7 cords annually. After testing several other models and from different manufacturers, I went with the 455 Rancher. This saw has plenty of power and will accept a variety of bar sizes to accommodate different needs. For most applications, I run a 20 inch bar which can tackle most wood that I can cut without larger equipment. For the money, I would put this up against any competitors product.

No disappointments here!
il y a 8 ans
I cut lots of spruce, birch and tamarack firewood, and it chews through like a beaver on steroids. Bought it last fall (2015) used it until freeze up, then took it out again this spring. A couple primes, choke and four pulls. Running like a charm. I don't really care if it uses more chain oil than usual, I know its is getting lubed. And there was no pool of oil under it when I took it out this spring, so there is no leaking. Keep the chain sharp. Get one. You will not be sorry.
