Phenomenal cosmic power, itty bitty living space!

This is the first product review I've ever written and I am only doing so because this thing is friggin amazing and people need to know. I melted through 2 acres of waist high grass tangled in a thick web of Southern California ice plant like it was nothing. Each 5ah battery lasted about half an hour on the "high" setting with nonstop full throttle and maintained full power output and trimmer torque right up until they were completely dead. A half hour may seem short, but considering it's a battery powered tool and I was working it through about the toughest stuff possible for a weed trimmer, I'm more than impressed by the performance. If you were doing normal trimming and yard maintenance you could probably go a month on one battery.
I was really skeptical of the gimmicky "fold it in half" thing but I absolutely love it. It's the perfect weed trimmer for the above average and/or common man. All the power of a gas burner and half the weight.

Poor performance - not worth the money

This tool was great out of the box and performed well for about one season. The tool is now useless. First the battery would drain very quickly and it would allow me to complete my small property in one charge and now the head will not spin. I have maintained it properly, cleaned it and restrung it.....still wont spin.

Large gap between rotating head and motor housing allows weeds to wind around the shaft and stall it in seconds. Seems to have adequate power for normal use but not with the wraparound issue. Will be attempting to return this thing after one job. I really wanted it to work out since I am heavily invested in 20V batteries

Worked Well

It definitely performed well but I found it to be bottom heavy and uncomfortable for me. I have a large yard and with all the weight at the bottom it got tiresome trying to trim under bushes and obstacles. I went back to my gas trimmer with the motor at the top which I find less tiring. Luckily I was able to return it.

Good trimmer, but guard screws fell out

I bought this trimmer last summer. It is a great trimmer, with excellent battery life and power. The only problem is the guard screws fell out after the first use and it is tricky to find the replacement part information. I am using it without the guard which is wild, messy, and dangerous, but gets the job done.

Decent with larger cord

If you try to use the .080" line for this trimmer, it's absolute garbage and you'll likely hate it. If you jump up to the .095 cord size, it works much better and the line doesn't recede back into the spool all the time. Mine is still very new, so we'll see if I have the same motor issues many complain about.

Très belle outil. Seul problème est le garde qui devrait empêcher les divers rebus de nous revenir dessus. Le petit morceau de plastique est totallement inutil. Mon ancien tournais a l'inverse de celui ci il tournais dans le sens des éguille du'une montre lui tourne a l'inverse donc adaptation a faire.

Was Good But Not Now

I thought things were going well but after two summers of trimming (my yard only) it locked up. Come here and find out I'm not the only one. Seems like a serious flaw. I'm really disappointed because all of my tools are Dewalt so it only seemed right to add this to my arsenal. Now I'm out a trimmer.

amazing trimmer

i have weed covered banks that takes 1+hours for a young man to mow,however i'm 80yrs old and need i have to say in poor health. it takes 2+batterys to finish this job, only used on high speed! i have help for this job, i have had 5 or 6 gas trimmers over the years and non compare to this trimmer.

Don't bother...

This came in a bundle deal and we actually found it nicer than our large gas powered Husqvarna trimmers for touch ups and finish work around the house, garage, and retaining walls. Usually only 20 minutes per use and 1 to 2 uses per week and it didn't even make it a whole summer before failing.

Worked good for small trimming, not for tall grass

Used for small trimming around house. Thought it was a good product until I used 2 times on some taller grass, bound up in the rotating shaft and the motor no long works. Clean up all grass clippings and nothing turns when pressing the trigger still. Product doesn't live up to the Dewalt name.

Stopped working about 12 to 15 usage

It worked fine for one season. I only have one front yard and a small back yard. Then, it just spins very slow and then spins very fast for a short while to the point that my hands and arms vibrates. I tired few times, still doing the same. I Love the brand so I'm hoping this gets resolved

Quite working after 3 uses

I wish I had read the reviews for this trimmer before I purchased it. I have a battery powered dewalt chain saw and drills that have worked fine so I trusted the brand... I shouldn't have. It stopped working on the third use. I only gave a 1 star rating because that is the lowest option.

Worked Great until year 2

I do not use it all that frequently. I live in AZ. Weeds are not an ever week problem for me, but I had some issue when I first bought and was able to get the bolts I needed. I tried to weed recently and now like every other bolt came undone and is now lost to the rocks and dust.

Lots of power and easy to use features.

Just got this string trimmer. It has a high low power setting but has so much power I can’t see needing the high setting. The spool loading looks very simple compared to previously owned trimmers so looking forward to that. Long 3 year battery warranty sounds like a plus too.

Wow ! It was not a cheap trimmer for being cordless but all worth it !! It does its job very quick and you can tell its hefty due to its built. I recommend it to anyone wanting a good trimmer, Do NOT Buy Makita trimmers, trust me I did a trade for this one, well worth it !!

Great trimmer!... but the handle could be improved

Probably the best trimmer I've used, and using just a single 5.0Ah battery, I'm able to deal with all of the areas on my acreage that I need to with juice left to spare. Also, the ability to fold up easily and store away is such a great design feature.
I'm a lefty, and have seen some people who are left handed talking about having an issue with pushing the trigger lockout button - I've operated the trimmer using either hand without experiencing a problem.
With that out of the way, I'd like to offer Dewalt some constructive criticism: It would really be great to have a lanyard or something, but like I say, I'm on an acreage and probably use it for a longer period of time than the average city home owner. Also, I'm not entirely sure why the handle was designed to be so straight, putting your wrist at an awkward angle - adding a slight angle to it would improve the ergonomics of this trimmer 10x over (this is why I've removed a star from this review). It'd also be nice to see a few attachment options as well.

Wow....What a difference between my old fuel powered trimmer and my new DCST922P1 (20 volt max14" folding string trimmer). I couldn't control the speed on my old machine and it would stall a lot, it would take me 10 to 15 pulls to get it started. Now all I have to do is hold the trigger down and go to work. I used it for about half an hour this morning and the battery only went down one bar, and about half of that time I used it on
high speed. It did a nice job on everything including some tall grass and weeds along my 100 foot fence line. Bumping to extend the line was almost effortless and worked every time with one easy bump. Another thing that was nice is, it didn't throw grass all over my feet and legs, I was actually clean when I got done. I was happy to see the how nicely this machine was built, the minute I took it out of the box I knew I purchased a quality tool. (No Fooling)
I cant say anything about longevity because I have only used it once, but I'm pretty sure this tool will last a long time.

Great Trimmer!

Nice but string is weak

The string that comes preloaded breaks often, especially when trying to edge. Bought a stronger string (same gauge) and removed original and that worked better but had to spend a little more $ to achieve the results i was looking for. Otherwise a nice unit.

the bump head wore through (home use) after the first season... could not find replacement bump caps so ordered a whole new "upgraded head"... yep, it was bigger, but completely disintegrated on the third use, shooting pieces everywhere including my shin.

Too heavy/awkward

It cuts okay. It's just too heavy and so poorly balanced, all of the weight is at the head/motor. It didn't come with a strap, to help distribute the weight, and there doesn't appear to be any provision for one. After 10 minutes of use, our arms hurt.

The motor died after just over a year of very light use. Head physically spins freely, but the motor glitches then doesn't turn.
I'm very disappointed. I own a dozen DeWalt tools and this experience makes me reconsider my brand loyalty it's so bad.

Stopped working after one year

After just over a year of use it stopped working completely. Tried cleaning/repairing, but seems to be a motor/wiring issue. Strong Dewalt supporter both at home and in my business, but this seems to be the first poor product. Appreciate any help Dewalt

This is the worst tool DeWalt has ever made!

I am in the construction industry and buy tools all the time for myself and were I work, that being said, not even a year and this 20v trimmer is junk. I understand planned obsolescence but this is just stupid. It used to be if you paid more for the tool you got a better quality and better engineered tool. Now your just buying the name. The batteries are very expensive and that's to keep you in the brand because of the initial investment in that platform. If it's any tool outside of the standard needs like yard or auxiliary equipment...its junk! It's almost always a wiring or circuit board problem which screams over priced and under engineered. PLEASE do call or email or send me any free or replacements. I'm done! I'm selling the batteries I have and giving away the DeWalt tools I have. Fool me once shame on me, twice, three and four times shame on you. Your stealing money from the people that have built and believed in your tools for years. Goodbye and good riddance. Good luck to all who still have faith....i unfortunately do not!

Excellent String Trimmer

The other feature we liked is the easy string replacement. Trimmer works as good as our gas trimmer but no fumes and quieter with much less vibration.

Trimmer burned out twice

Purchased this trimmer under a year ago, then the motor smoked and died. Called customer service and returned it and they promptly sent out another one. Had the new one and used it maybe three times and now this one has burned out. Not happy at all.
