[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this weed eater three months ago and I’m beyond pleased without it at first I was skeptical because is electric vs gas but it is so much better than I ever imagined. It’s easy to use, easy to put away and store, and easy to re spool the line. This thing last me about 30min-1hour which is good for the trimming that needs to be done. It’s so awesome I use it to mow my whole yard. I would for sure recommend this to everyone I know

Good trimmer

Overall: I would recommend this item.
The Cons do not effect the overall usefulness of this item because they are mediocre and DeWalt can make simple adjustments to correct. But then again, this is my personal opinion.
Pros:
The trimmer works great and is easy to operate.
It has a low speed and a high speed selector switch.
Ergonomically is light weight.
The trigger itself is a variable speed trigger which I like.
Cons:
The latch where you fold over the trimmer could be moved farther down to allow to attach the handle more towards the middle for a better balance. But not a deal breaker.
The variable trigger is kind of sketchy so DeWalt needs to improve that. But not a deal breaker.
If DeWalt is going to stick with the 20v 5ma battery, then they need to supply 2 of them because this battery does not last
. But not a deal breaker.

Junk! Junk! Junk!

I bought this about a year and a half ago & used it every other week for about 15 to 20 minutes each time & used it twice this year, got it out of the garage yesterday and just like a lot of the other reviews, pulled the trigger & nothing happened, try a different fully charged battery & still nothing. I have multiple Dewalt 20v tools & the concrete company that I work for uses all Dewalt 20v tools, but this trimmer is absolute junk!

Great tool!

Works well on both high and low settings, Well balanced with the 9AH battery, not so much with the 5AH it came with. I wish it came with a 9AH battery as this increases run time and better balances the weight of the head. This is the lightest and quietest weedeater I've ever used and has almost zero vibrations, so no more numb hands. Was able to cut down thick grass over a foot tall on the high setting. All in all a great tool.

Motor stopped working

I bought this tool so my wife could weed wack while I am mowing and she used it 2 time and now the head motor will not spin. I have and love all of my dewalt tools but this seems to have some kind of malfunction in the motor circuit board in the head. And I can not find the replacement board so I can order it and get this fixed and her back to weed walking. ( it makes her feel useful when she does it and she enjoys it)

(Jacobcaruso) Same problem as above, see his review. Can't be reloaded to operate. Thought it would be easier than getting my other 2 gas powered weed eaters repaired which is often. Man did I screw up. Plus the battery won't charge all the way. I have other Dewalt tools with exact same charger and battery. My son bought it for me and unfortunately he's deployed doing God knows what for whatever Presidents in office.

Disappointed with poor design

I have been a fan and own thousands of dollars in DeWalt tools. However this product has Very problematic in functioning adequately since day one. The bearing and compartment easily fill up with grass material and kill battery power. You have to take it all apart every 7-10 minutes to clean out. The bearing pops down and lets grass fill in and plastic parts are degrading and peeling. Battery last 10-12 minutes max.

Light and Perfectly Balanced, and Powerful !

After moving the handle below the pivot point, the tool is balanced perfectly. (Wish the instructions had suggested that.) The tool runs long enough to complete our home and yard, 1/2 acre lot with battery to spare. We would highly recommend this to anyone looking at string trimmers.

I purchased 2 of these trimmers. Could not believe how bad they worked. Neither trimmer would feed the string. You have to keep cleaning the head unit in order to get the string to feed and then both motors stop working. I am pretty handy and would love to fix it but cannot find parts. I have always had Dewalt tools and I just don't get how you could let such a product have your name on it .Very disappointed.

Broke with in 1 year and poor Dewalt support

Broke with in 1 year , just randomly stop working , poor engineering. cant even reach to Dewalt support there is no online support just a forma nd then you have to wait for 3 month to get issue fixed. there is only one support center near my house which is 40 miles and repair time is 3 month. not worth at all. not buying ay Dewalt product from now this is my 2nd product issue and same poor experience.

Good weed eater

I will admit I was very skeptical about a battery operated weed eater. I've only had one other one... different brand of battery powered weed eater and was not impressed however I decided to take chance on this because I read the reviews. I have to admit, I'm very impressed. It cuts very well and seems to have as much or similar power to gas operated andis far less noisy. I would diffenitly recommend.

I bought it with the included battery and am able to trim and edge my back and front yard (suburb residential neighborhood) on one charge. The design is very ergonomic and comfortable to use and the ability to fold it up for storage is a game changer for someone like me with limited storage space. Highly recommend.

VERY disappointed

I bought this trimmer a few weeks ago and after two uses, it is useless. I spend more time restraining this piece of garbage than trimming. Now the guard screws fall off and I can't find a parts list detailing what screws to replace it with. I went back to using my old skil trimmer that I hated. I own several other Dewalt 20V equipment that I worked, but this trimmer is very disappointing.

Perfect for older female but not durable

Same issue as the first. There is no one that works on battery weed eaters locally and there isn’t a service center locally to take it to. I loved how easy it was to use while it was operating but too expensive to replace every couple of years.

spool head quickload is a joke.

tried to fix spool head. cord is stuck inside and cannot get it to feed out. from seeing other reviews of ths junk. would not have wasted the money. it is a use till it breaks and throw away. time of use is very short so it gets the heave ho rather quickly. dewalt would be be off sending all production of this item straight to a landfill. one star is way too high of a rating.

We are on our second one thanks to Royal King they gladly replaced our first one because it appears to have locked up in the motor or head some how after using it only twice! Now I just put fresh battery in the new one and started to use it for the third time and it still has the original line still in it. Now it has done just as the first one did! It has locked up an will not turn

Easy to use and store away

Im a single mom with a disability and needed to do some yard work so i got this trimmer comes with the battery and charger. I thought it was going to be hard to use and put together but it was fast and easy. I have never used a trimmer before and i found it very easy to use and start up again. Best weed eater ever used

I recently purchased this weed eater and finally got to use it and man does it have power. I’ve always been skeptical towards battery weed eaters versus gas, but DeWalt pulls through as always. I’ve landscaped sine I was a kid, although high school and college for work and have generally stuck with Stihl or echo. I would put this up against either of those any day of the week.

Low maintenance trimmer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This trimmer works like any other trimmer. What I enjoy about it is the 20V Max XR battery works with other Dewalt tools and it is low maintenance. I don't need fuel or have to change the spark plug like a gas trimmer. Also of all the times I've used this, not once has the string broke off resulting in me pulling out more string. I simply have to use the bump feed.

To bottom heavy to use for extended period

I have just used this folding trimmer for the first time and find it to be extremely bottom heavy. There is no way to balance the handle and there is no way to have strap and the arm fatigue is unbelievable. Is there anyway that can handle can be moved lower, so there is a better balance? I do not see a way so far. Very disappointed but will work with it some more.

poor ergonomics and vibration

I just bought this and it's the worst trimmer I have ever used. The head vibrates bad and it is extremely unbalanced and uncomfortable to use. The hinge limits the hand grip location and makes it very hard to get an even cut along with putting extra strain on my back. First dewalt tool I have not been happy with. Moving the hinge down would make it usable.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Replaced an old gas string trimmer recently and decided to try cordless. Selected Dewalt since I have many of their other 20 volt tools also. Using this to trim on my 1/3 acre lot. Also edged along 100 feet of curbing. This did a much better job edging than I expected for a battery powered trimmer. I've used this 2 times and the battery is still at 3 bars.

Nice but Unbalanced

Bought this trimmer and matching hedge trimmer. Already had the 20v max blower and chainsaw. Works great, plenty of power and quieter than my old gas model. It does seem unbalanced to me. With the motor in the head, it’s feels heavier than my actual heavier gas model. I’m going to try moving the handle in front of the joint and see if that helps.

Once you put the battery in the back its perfectly balanced! Being I dewalt tool I knew it would be an awesome weed wacker, and they definitely delivered, the power on this is no different then what you would get from a gas powered weed trimmer.

Loose Screws

While using the trimmer I noticed there were two handguard screws missing and then I was trimming the grass and all of the sudden the guard came flying off. Both of the guard screws must have came out and the guard went flying. I would check your guard screws each time you use this weedeater so you don't end up losing the screws like me.

Pretty light for how much power it has, the weight is a little front heavy but while trimming you won't notice it. 30 to 45 minutes of run time on high and almost constant use (testing the run time) normal trimming i have a single led left highly recommend this trimmer

Never was all that great...

DCST922 String Trimmer stopped working after only a couple years. The thing was expensive and cant believe it last only a short while. Now its an expensive paperweight. I suspect the motor is burned out. It smells burnt and only clicks when you pull the trigger. Im so angry about this that im considering switching out all my tools.

Awesome Trimmer

This trimmer battery last long enough to finish my yard. It’s so much easier to use than the gas powered one. Just put in the battery and go. It trims just as well as my old gas trimmer. Phenomenal cosmic power, itty bitty living space!

This is the first product review I've ever written and I am only doing so because this thing is friggin amazing and people need to know. I melted through 2 acres of waist high grass tangled in a thick web of Southern California ice plant like it was nothing. Each 5ah battery lasted about half an hour on the "high" setting with nonstop full throttle and maintained full power output and trimmer torque right up until they were completely dead. A half hour may seem short, but considering it's a battery powered tool and I was working it through about the toughest stuff possible for a weed trimmer, I'm more than impressed by the performance. If you were doing normal trimming and yard maintenance you could probably go a month on one battery.
I was really skeptical of the gimmicky "fold it in half" thing but I absolutely love it. It's the perfect weed trimmer for the above average and/or common man. All the power of a gas burner and half the weight.
