This Saw Is A MONSTER!
il y a 4 ans
Most everybody knows the purpose of a miter saw, so I'll focus on the features of this one you might not know about. This saw is packed with features, most of which are easily adjustable without any tools. The depth can be adjusted to restrict the depth of the cut by flipping down a stop and adjusting a wing nut. The slide length can be adjusted to restrict the length of the cut also with a wing nut. Combining these allows you repeat precision cuts. The Fence can also be extended on each side (again no tools required) for those longer boards. As far as the quality of the saw, its excellent. Perfectly square straight out of the box, and I haven't had to adjust it since I've owned it. I have yet to find a board it can't cut.
Hands down the best miter saw I’ve ever owned. By far the quietest too. Run it all day in residential setting and no complaints from neighbors. Setup was easy as well. Came out of the box close enough for framing work, some very minor adjustments for finish work. If you’re used to a laser/shadow line on your cut pieces then you may want to spring for the more expensive model. Comes with a 32 tooth rough blade so if you do finish work pick up a higher tooth blade on your way out. Replaced a “house” brand saw from a couple years ago with this. Definitely worth it.
The saw has lots of nice features, but it definitely has some play in the sliding mechanism. My previous saw was a non-sliding 12" Dewalt. You give up some cut precision when you get the sliding mechanism. The saw also comes with a 32 tooth ripping blade (which they call construction combination). It is a very poor choice for a cross-cutting saw. The manual lists a minimum tooth count of 40 teeth. If you call Dewalt to ask about it, they'll tell you they are changing the manual to include the 32 tooth model. That's not an appropriate blade in my opinion.
Overall this is a beast of saw. The power and cut capacity are outstanding. This thing will handle anything you throw at it and overall I'm quite happy with the saw. That being said there's always room for improvement. While this thing has all the power you could want it needs a soft start to reduce jumping and breaker tripping. The hold down clamp is the same bad clamp every miter saw comes with. It works but takes 5 minutes to set up so you'll never use it. Then there's the space issue. Like many sliding miter saws on the market, the DW779 has a massive footprint because of the sliding rails. Each of these issues can be worked around by the creative craftsman, but definitely should be addressed by the Dewalt team in the future.
This review will be short because as I have stated in another review, if a tool is purchased and used the way it was intended to be used a DIY person cannot go wrong. And this tool is another tool that falls into that category for me. I don't believe I over buy a tool for the projects I use it for, I just don't, simply put, expect the tool to do more things than can reasonably be expected. This miter saw has been fantastic and is ready to operate precisely the way I want it to. Again, if you buy DeWalt and take care of the tool you will receive many years of uninterrupted service out of them. One last note: This saw has been servicing me very well in my small home-woodshop since July 2019. Coming up on 3 years of awesome service.
Just bought this saw, I have other DeWalt products so I'm sure it will perform well. I do have an issue with the included accessories, there are none. No blade wrench, dust bag, vertical material clamp, or instruction manual. I downloaded and printed the manual, but the other parts are going to add additional cost I was not planning on (especially since the parts were to be included). I don't think this was DeWALT's doing but the retailer. Bought the tool in Boise and traveled home 450 miles to Montana before I realized the parts were missing.

Massive!

I have owned and do own several of the Dewalt tools. Its usually my go to for tools. I replaced my old Dewalt miter saw with this beast and so far I am pretty satisfied with the purchase. Its the first sliding compound saw I have owned and I love that feature! It eats about anything I have put in front of it. My only concern thus far is the width of the cut out in the kurf plate. Small cuts fall down in there and can be difficult to retrieve. I will probably end up replacing it with a zero clearance. Other than that thumbs up!
Yes, it’s powerful and accurate. Easy to clean up etc. works great with the matching Dewalt folding stand. I bought it specifically for a big deck project. Which included cutting a lot of treated 4 X 4s. Imagine my surprise when I saw that it wouldn’t cut through a 4 X 4 (3 1/2” square). It always leaves a small piece uncut, maybe 1/8”. The clamp on the left side of the blade mount is what interferes by hitting the wood and preventing the blade cutting full depth.
If someone can tell me how to fix this, please do.
There is some good here, and that is the power that this saw has... which can also be a bit dangerous, so pay attention. The torque on this thing wants to suck the blade in.
I also like the double bevel option.
On the negative side, and why I gave this 2 stars is the plastic on this in the operating zone. Today, while cutting some lumber, the plastic piece (maybe the rear guard) broke off. Sadly, I can't find a parts list anywhere to narrow down what part this is and what I need to ask for. Overall, not good.

One smooth operator.

Purchased this saw after buying two others, in the past 7 months, that had many problems. I just got it mounted on my miter saw stand, yesterday. I'm giving this a 5 star rating, after only a few hours use. I changed out the 40 tooth blade, with a 80 tooth one, and I' so happy with this. The smoothest cutting miter saw, I've ever owned. Very easy setup, and the ease of changing the bevel, the cutting degree, and blades, only takes seconds. Love it, and highly recommend it to anyone thats into woodworking.
I bought this saw today and unboxed it. A 32t blade was installed so i called dewalt and was talking to a live person within 3 minutes. I explained what blade was on it. He asked me to hold while he checked his system. He said some ship with 32t and others with a 60t. He said as a courtesy he was going to send me a 96t blade for FREE. He said it would take about 7-14 days for it to be delivered. If this holds to be true they proved to me they have excellent customer service. I will update in a couple of weeks.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been in the home remodel business for the past 20 yrs and nothing is more synonymous with precision and power than Dewalt. They simply are the best at what they do, and that is providing its consumers primeum products for a great price! They absolutely broke the mold with their Miter Saws and portable/collapasable stands. This saw delivers anything u could need in a miter saw. I have never been let down or disappointed in this product. So if you’re in the market for a mitre saw you can’t go wrong here!
After a lot of research, I purchased this saw for accurate crosscuts and beveled cuts for woodworking purposes. I had looked at a lot of the popular brands, but kept coming back to Dewalt due to their reliability and quality of construction.
This saw is very sturdy and easy to set up. I had to do no additional tweaking out of the box. 90 degree cuts were perfect right off the bat. Angled cuts were easy to configure.
It is heavy, though! However, the weight helps to provide stability. And it is deep with the sliding feature. I made a rolling cart for mine, and can move it around the shop as needed.
The only downside would be dust collection with just the included bag. But then, what miter saw actually has good dust collection? So no real loss there.
All in all, highly recommended!
I've had this saw 6 months and have spent more on replacement part for it than on the saw it replaced which I had for 22 years. The dust port has broken 4 times the rear guard once. It only takes a small (3/4"x3/4"x1/4") piece of cutoff to break these pieces. This is a very poor design. The really frustrating part is the rear guard is on back order with no date when it will be in. I use this on a daily basis and now I think I should have looked at other brands, or not sold the old one.

Worth the Money
il y a 4 ans
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My cousin recommended this saw over more affordable ones for my wood working. I knew if I was gonna spend money anywhere, it needed to be my miter saw. After two months, I could not be happier I bought this. I’ve already used all the bevel and miter options to make cuts. I could not have made those cuts with other miter saws. Even as beginner, this guy is user friendly. The handles are kind of annoying to install, I took them off so the saw would fit onto the station I built for it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased to help do a screen porch remodel, needed the depth of cut for dimensional lumber. With an 80T diablo blade on it, cuts like a hot knife through butter.
Perfectly square and true to measurements right out of the box, the only thing I wish was better was the dust collection, but that’s true of every miter saw.
Slide mechanism is a bit bulky, but as long as you allow for space around the saw, it’s fine.
Now to find a good stand that folds compactly with it.
The ONLY reason I don't give this saw 5 stars is because the size of the dust collection port. After checking all the angles, saw was ACCURATE right out of the box. BUT, I could not connect my large Shop Vac to it because the port is too small. So I dropped down ONE size in Shop Vac's and the port was TOO BIG. I am using the smaller vac and placing painters tape around the vac tube and the collection port. Still leaves some saw dust IN the collection port. Still, a GREAT saw.
Got this saw for Christmas from my wife and it is amazing. It also came with the saw stand that can support up to 16 ft material! I have made so many home improvements with this saw since I got it. From baseboards to ceiling crown, bookshelves to accent walls. This saw is great and easy to use. The slide is smooth and the power is there to cut through all materials with ease. I would highly recommend to anyone in a business needing a sliding miter saw or even the home DIYer.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have owned this saw for about 6 months and it is an excellent tool. Does not come with the shadow blade line which I probably should have just sprung for at the beginning, but it made very accurate cuts right out of the box, I checked all the angles for square and the 45 degree standard setting, required no tuning, recommended! If you are thinking about getting this or the 780 with the shadow line, probably just go for the 780 but the same saw overall!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent saw. Works great with easy adjustments. Feels like a quality product with good fit and finish. Only complaint is the dust management has a soft fabric section which if you attach a vacuum will actually shut itself and render it useless. I removed the fabric part and it works decently well, but I would recommend they develop some kind of improvement for that dust system for when vacuum is used, larger opening, etc.
I have seen lubricant on the base of the saw a time or two now. Somewhere around where blade mounts seems to be the problem. I have tried researching all over the Internet and cannot find a solution or cause. This saw has barely been used but I know it is a workhorse! Hopefully someone can respond and let me know what the cause is and maybe what lubricant is recommended. Also, where I might be able to get this fixed?

Add 2nd Clamp and keep the 32T blade. ATTN:DEWALT!
il y a 4 ans
DWS779 saw is used in furniture building and finish work. Very little tweaking needed as to my preferences. Have used other sliding dbl. comp. miters saws and still prefer DeWalt. As with other DeWalt products it's user friendly and most important accurate. Add a second clamp and keep the blade. Anyone doing finish work or for furniture uses a minimum 60T blade. Gave my DeWalt DWS780 to my son when he purchased a house.
Don’t get me wrong. I love this saw and how useful it is but in my opinion it’s a little on the heavy side. Obviously it’s a big saw and it’s gonna be heavy. It is very helpful when cutting taller baseboard or crown molding for a whole house and saves a lot of time but personally I wouldn’t be pulling this big guy out just to replace a couple pieces. Overall it’s a good bang for your buck.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this saw a little while back and it is one of the best saws i have ever used. I'm a trim carpender and i've used many saws including other dewalt miter saws and this one is by far my favorite. Right out of the box it was extremely accurate, the fence is very sturdy and perfect for larger cuts and crown. I would highly recomend this saw to anyone looking for a durable/ acurate saw
Just got the saw and only used it a couple times. Out of the box it was square and true. Moving up from a 10" saw with no slide. This saw takes up a huge space on my bench. I'm a home hobbyist. For a saw talking about fine cuts on crown molding they ship it with a 32 tooth rough cut blade. I wish the dust collection could be closer to the front because with it we are almost 40" front to back! I had used a friends 12" saw and was impressed with it. It was a different brand. I found the soft start a little hard to get used to. This big saw is not soft start and has a real kick both starting and stopping. I guess I'll get used to that too! I'll try to make some sort of narrow dust collection box and fir a vacuum to the bottom so maybe it will only add an inch or two. Over all the saw seems well built. The quality is what I expect from DeWalt. I've had many other of their hand power tools.
just purchased my second of this dws779 to replace another well used and worn dw708 that was 20 years old, the first of this model came with a 60 tooth blade and both 22.9 and 33.5 deg plastic stops on each side ,the second did not have both items
other wise these are beasts of tools and cut dead on right from the box , adding a dw 724 stand makes for a great combo
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After wearing out another brand of miter saw it was time to upgrade to Dewalt. I researched extensively to match my needs and found the Dewalt DWS779 checked every box. The DWS779 exceeds my expectations and performs every function and task excellently. I can't wait to begin my next trim project, fence and deck build. I can't imaging wearing out this beast of a miter saw!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] While installing laundry room cabinets that would match our kitchen cabinets, I experienced the difficulty in trying to cut the angles for crown molding. I finally resorted to the manual that came with my saw and there it was: Instructions for cutting crown molding. But more importantly the saw has preset stops for all the proper angles, so every cut is a perfect cut.
I am very impressed with the Dewalt DWS779 compound miter saw so far. However, the instruction manual is the worst that I have ever tried to use for a product. The corresponding numbers identifying the various points on the three illustrations on page one are in no sequential order. Additionally, the appear on three different illustrations in no type of order. Additionally, the instruction manual does not flow well with the operational instructions and you are continually turning pages to different illustrations on different pages. As a result, I feel like I am suffering with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and dyslexia!!! After trying to read the instruction manual, I had to go online and watch various instructional videos about the product. Dewalt needs hire a news employees that can effectively write an easy to understand instruction manual and/or create instructional videos associated with the various products.
After 20+ years of service of my original Dewalt stationary arm miter saw, I upgraded to this sliding arm model. This saw meets and exceeds my expectations for out of the box performance. Nice, heavyweight, smooth action tool, not some flimsy, limited use poser tool. If you need an upgrade or you’re purchasing your first, start and end with this one.
