back when I was a jumpy shooty boi in the 82nd, I would keep my Toughsystem stereo in my rucksack so I'd have tunes after a jump. One fateful night jump I was on, my lowering line on my chute harness had been routed incorrectly by a buddy, and the whole thing jettisoned itself at about 500 feet, destroying everything inside the ruck except the subwoofer on the stereo and the 5AH battery inside. I've since bought a new stereo, and the old battery still works without issue. Had I not had a steel thermos in the bag, the stereo might also have survived. Fitting, the last song it played was Blood on the Risers.
I bought a Dewalt grass trimmer. It is a great tool. I purchased 2 lithium 5 ah batteries to go with it. What a disappointment. The first summer it worked great. I could run at least 30 minutes on a charge. This summer, I might get 10 minutes.
I have the old XRP nicad batteries for my hand tools. I bought them 8 years ago, and they are still going strong. Incredible. I bought the adapter to put the lithium batteries in the tools, thinking it would be a great upgrade to use them. Wrong. What a waste of money.
I will not be buying any more Dewalt tools that use lithium batteries. I will use my nicads as long as I can, and if they die, I will be looking for another brand.
This sucks.
I've bought only Dewalt for decades. They have always stood behind their products and if I have had any problems they were very quick to remedy the situation and make sure I was satisfied. Tools, batteries, service, it didn't matter. Yes occasionally I've gotten a bad battery. But the were excellent about sending me a new one with no questions asked. They have changed where they manufacture them though and I'm curious about quality control out of the Asian countries. Time will tell if the quality drops or if they stand the test of time. For now Dewalt is all I will buy. Very happy!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Purchased 2 of these batteries 8 months ago and fully appreciate that they have not left me with the
“Why didn’t I get a bigger battery” feeling.
Was a diehard Milwaukee fan for decades until they couldn’t keep up with dewalts innovations,
Now it’s the first tool I reach for, whether that be in the yard (pole saw, blower, pruning saw, pressure washer or weed eater) or the shop (hammer drills and impacts)
Next on the purchase list will be the nicd adapter to make my older tools lithium powered.
Good job Dewalt, creativity has no limits, keep the ideas coming!!!
Why are there differences in battery design DEWalt? The top battery is the spare purchased to go along with the DCD791 drill. The battery does not charge on the charger that came with the drill, it does not seat properly on the charger. There are differences in the pin config that is hard to get pic on in the package. The slots are all connected where the other one they are broken out to 6 independent slots in the middle. HD and Amazon, same issue with their supply. Might work on the tools, but what’s the point if you can’t charge it.
I bought a new model Dewalt blower that come with charger and 5ah battery, charged it fully, and ran my blower full throttle. After 6 mins, the speed started slowing down and at 12 mins the battery completely died. DeWalt did replace my battery for free from a 2019 year to a 2020 model and the samething happened so that's why I gave it 3 stars. I'm new to DeWalt after owning Craftman and Black and Decker battery products for years. I'm disappointed to barely get 12 mins of use on a 5ah 2020 battery but really like their prodcuts.
I've owned Dewalt cordless powertools since they first came out starting with the old 12v drilldriver. The batteries that came with those ARE STILL SERVICEABLE! I have a ton of the 20V LITHIUM batteries and have subjected them to extremes in temperature on both ends of the thermometer and have beaten the HECK out of every one of them and NOT ONE HAS FAILED ME YET! Batteries are like any other tool..you take care of them and they WILL take care of you. Thank You Dewalt!
My husband bought the DeWalt cordless leaf blower for me with a 20v MAX 5 AH XR battery last week. I charged it. (Yes, I pressed it into the charger fully. Yes, it did click.) I used it ONE TIME. It lasted TWENTY MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It WILL NOT charge again. I asked for a leaf blower that takes a cord because of this kind of thing and because the batteries always die before the job is done. Listen to your wife!!! Now he is buying me one that takes a cord. smh
