Great Idea - Very Poor Implementation
il y a 6 ans
The concept of extending our DeWalt product lifetime by using a more modern 20V battery is right on target. But whoever designed the mechanical interface to the 18V tools got it absolutely wrong. The clips are next to impossible to release - in fact, for me I have to use a wooden insert to hold one side from reclipping while I attempt to release the opposite side.
Sure it won't fall out when using the adapter, but this is way to difficult for a high quality DeWalt product.
Yes, my adapter too was hard to remove. Thought it was the spring clips, but once removed they worked easily. Filed the two pads down on the top of the adapter until I could easily push the clips in to remove the adapter. Works for all my 18V tools. This may void your warranty, but at least you can get the adapter off without resorting to near violence. And I too found out the hard way that if you leave a battery in the adapter, it will completely lose it's charge overnight.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have multiple 18 volt tools and 20 volt tools. It was a pain to keep two chargers going and not having the right battery for each tool. I had both size batteries and when I found out about this adapter I only had to use my 20 volt batteries for any tool. This was awesome. I only needed one size charger and the 20 volt batteries in the 18 volt tools make them lighter and run longer. The adapter is lightweight and you don’t notice it at all. Great product
I have always loved Dewalt tools however, this is the biggest junk Dewalt has ever sold. There should be a buyback on these. The info that Dewalt provides is erroneous as to which tools and batteries work with the unit. Dewalt also doesn't explain that without removal of the battery from the adapter the adapter discharges the battery. Now I have new 6 amp batteries and new fast charger for an adapter that does not work in any of my 18 volt tools.
I own a gaggle of the 18v tools that all needed new batteries. It it didn’t make sense to me to keep buying inferior and obsolete NiCad batteries, and it also made no sense to put perfectly good tools on the scrap heap. So I bought half a dozen of these adapters and the same # of 20v 5.0ah batteries- they work great. I keep an eye out for good deals on the batteries - so this was about the same cost as the old 18v replacements.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this adapter 1 year ago on a whim. In that year i have found that, for the most part, it does its job. I am able to use the newer 20volt batteries on most of my older 18v tools. It can be a beast to remove at first, but over time parts wear down and it comes off as easy as a standard battery. While the 2 batteries that came with it, in the kit i purcased, dont have a super long run time, they will do the job and also work fine on the 20v toolsi also have. I have found that this adapter does hae some limitation. With the battery on, it does not allow the battery door to close on the cordless vacuum. It also does not work well in the cordless angled nail gun, creating a misfire, and jam, every other shot.
Those 2 issues aside, I believe this to be an excellent addition to my DeWalt tool family and have recommended it to several frieds and co-workers that still are on the 18v system.
Bought to use in my old nicad tools to use with my new lithium batteries and product is horrible. Can’t get it to release from tool and now stuck with it on my drill. I have a whole line of DeWalt tools and it seems like they want you to buy an adapter for each tool. Poor design. Would give negative stars if I could. Hopefully DeWalt takes this into consideration and do something about it

JUNK Not a good adaptor at all
il y a 3 ans
I bought two of these kits with the 20v 2amp battery and was shocked that if I left the battery attached to the tool the next day the battery was completely DEAD. after a short time what I did was to buy a adaptor from China and it works like DEWALT intended it to work, so I just bought another one to replace the DEWALT one. It was also less than half the piece of DEWALT adaptor. Allen
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is great! It allows you to use the new 20v batteries on the old 18v tools. With out needing
To get older 18 v batteries. The only thing that I have noticed! If the new battery is left on the tool
And not used. The charge will not last long for some reason? Up side with the converter and new Style Battery. The tool is lighter than with the 18v
Battery. Great product!
Got this about 6 mos ago because my 18xrp batteries died. As everyone states, near impossible to meve adapter from one tool to another. Would consider buying an adapter 2 pack if it was available. Also battery has short life, shorter if left in tool as it does completely discharge overnight.
If this was for 1 tool it would be great. Not so great for multi-tool use.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this product because it was cheaper than buying new 18V batteries and I just got some 20V items.I use the 20V 3Ah batteries in my 18V Hammer Drill, Circular saw, and Reciprocating saw. Paid itself off in a couple of hours while building a deck. I had problems changing it out a first. But just make sure the release buttons are fully pressed in.
VERY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE FROM EVERY TOOL I HAVE. ITS ALMOST LIKE THEY DESIGNED THIS SO YOU NEED TO PURCHASE AN ADAPTER FOR EVERY DEWALT TOOL YOU HAVE, AND LEAVE THE ADAPTER INSTALLED ON EACH TOOL. I COULD BELIEVE THE FIT, IF IT WAS MADE BY AN AFTER MARKET COMPANY. AFTER HAVING THIS FOR OVER A YEAR, I DON'T THINK I WILL EVER BUY ANOTHER DEWALT TOOL.
I bought the upgrade kit with adaptor over three months ago. I charged the lithium batteries. Now I finally go to use it and it doesn’t work, a couple times I got power to my drill but intermittent,as if the connection is weak. What a headache. So now it’s back Dewalt to try and understand why the issue!!
I’m very disappointed with the product.
Product does not work on most tools despite advertising it does. Packaging needs to list few tools it will work with. Called Dewalt they confirm will not work with any tools I have. Product is junk. Tools run soon has a light load is on tool, tool cuts out. Have disassemble battery, adapter and tool and reassemble to restart. Worthless!
This thing has kept an old early 00's DeWalt Sawzall alive and kicking. Love being able to slap in a bigger battery into an older tool to get things DONE. I've used it in other things to such as my 1/4 impact. I do not seem to have draining issues as much as others but it does happen. I tend to remove my batteries out of habit.
Well, it works other than it discharging your battery completely if left in the adapter. I don’t think that should happen since you can leave your battery in your 20vlt tool with no problem. A real let down. 3 tools, 3 batteries. Makes sense yeah? Now I have to have little parts loose in the bag so the batteries will stay full.
I do not use these every day. These are about a year old and only charge to about 75%. One battery was replaced already by the factory. Not sure if the charger or the packs are the problem. I have to leave one on the charger all the time just to have some juice when I start a job, then the charge last no time on the packs.
2 stars because it works. I can't give it any more because of how difficult it is to remove. You are forced to purchase this or all of your 18V tools will be useless. I am a man with man hands and can't get it off without 2 flathead screwdrivers and some cussing. This is poorly designed for quick removal between tools.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As I have owned DeWalt products for years, I was not ready for the upgrade to 20v drill and impact driver. I still have 18v tools, and this gives me the opportunity to extend the life. The tools are actually lighter with the adapter and 20v batteries. Removing the adapter is as easy as removing a normal 18v battery.
Disappointed again. 24v Battery charge drains very quickly when used in conjunction with the adapter and 18v tools and so far it has been impossible to remove once installed, making it useless for all the other 18v DeWalt tools i have, requiring I buy a separate for each 18v tool. Switching to Porter- Cable tools ASAP
I BOUGHT THIS A YEAR AGO WORKS GREAT BATTERY LIFE IS EXCELLENT I SEE IN OTHER REVIEWS ABOUT BATTERY DRAIN WITH BATTERY LEFT IN TOOL IT DOES BUT NOT A BIG DEAL LEAVE BATTERY OUT OF TOOL WHEN STORED WHEN I STORE MY DRILL IN MY BAG I REMOVE BATTERY ANYWAY SO TRIGGER DOES NOT GET PRESSED WHILE TRANSPORTING NO BIG DEAL
I bought this with 2 batteries six months ago, and it never worked properly. 1) Can't power my dc628k, only get flashing lights. 2) They discharge quickly when plugged into adapter. 3) It takes minutes of effort to dislodge from tool. I should have brought back for return. Don't buy, get the 18v instead.
I've had countless DeWalt tools over the years and wanted this to work so I could move to the 20v stuff without losing use of my 18v tools. It's hard to remove, doesn't work with the new Flexvolt stuff which wasn't even out when I bought this... Put your money into a new system instead of this bandaid.
WILL NOT WORK WITH 6 amp BT206 batteries. I bought a new 20V Max angle grinder because it came with 2 - 6 amp and 1 - 5 amp batteries, then both 2 of these adapters for my 18V XR tools. 6 amp battery will not physically fit this adapter for some reason and advertising does not mention that. Boo.
Great product to replace old 18v batteries. Sadly, the fit is so tight on the tool that it needs to be forced together. Then to remove? Hope you're strong and patient!
I'd expect this from aftermarket parts, but never from Dewalt OEM.
I only gave it 3 stars because it is soooo tight/misfit.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was hesitant to buy this item based on some of the negative comments about it, but I am glad that I did so. There remains an opportunity to make the insertion and removal of the adapter easier to execute. However, I was able to do it successfully several times. Overall a good purchase.
I have had so much trouble with a battery powered piece of equipment. I have always been a Dewalt fan but the 18v to 20v adapter is the absolute worst piece of equipment I have ever bought. Probably will be changing colors because of this. 2 years trying to make this work.
Like so many people have said, this is such a good idea if you could use the darn thing. Once it is in the tool you can't remove it without a lot of effort, where was the quality control on this product? Dewalt should recall this item and go back to the drawing board!
Bought one of these converters and a couple of cheap (1.5Ah) 20V Max batteries to try and breathe new life into my old DeWalt tool set, and it's like I have new tools again. Yeah, all the wear and tear is there, but the power is back up to what I remember as new.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Works on all of my 18v tools and performance is the same as with the old batteries. The only complaint I have is that the clips on the sides that hold it in place are poorly designed and make it VERY difficult to grasp them and release them from the tool.
