Charcoal Grill - Smokey Joe - 147 sq. ft.

I haven't had a Weber charcoal grill in a long time. Had propane Webers for years. The last grille purchased was a Q grille, which was wonderful. I sold my last home furnished, grille included. Decided I'd like to try a tabletop charcoal one this time. The premium Smoky Joe was my choice because the ashes are contained and the handle supplies a lid holder. I considered the ease of cleaning, as the bowl is closed at the bottom and holds soapy water to be dumped, when cleaning. The grille sits on a table outside of a sliding door In my new condo. Looks neat and clean for a very noticeable location. I wish the smoke blue was a bit more blue.

I bought this as an alternative to campfire grilling (so unreliable), and am I glad that I did! First, I was impressed with its sturdy construction, and excellent venting system. The conveniences, like the handles and the way that the legs are made, make this easy and safe to use at the campsite. I bought the convenient carrying case and also a chimney to heat up the coals. I am amazed how much heat this little guy can generate! We can easily grill a meal for 4 using our Smokey Joe. Because I use lump charcoal, there is relatively little mess afterward. A wonderful purchase for a small family, and a nice little grill. I highly recommend it!

Powerplant of a grill! Small, but big small that will grill even the biggest steaks or roasts. Grilling area can share both hamburgers and hotdogs without needing to wait for space to open. Secure handle that can be easily transported in vehicle without any shifting or even on a bicycle back rack strapped tightly. This grill can easily serve 1-4 persons. For use at a tailgating event with more than 4 people are involved, will need to wait for open space for grilling area. However, for a small family this grill is absolutely perfect. With the grills compact design and 3 short legs it works well as a table top convenience. I LOVE THIS GRILL. AWESOME!

I have always purchased the cheap (china made) charcoal grills and thought a grill was a grill. After purchasing my Weber and using it several times, I was wrong. For starters, it is heavy duty compared to the china stuff. Next, I can actually control the heat with the vents. The control of heat on the china was a joke. It was wide open to medium heat. Last thing that I love, after I finish grilling, I can shut the vents off and the charcoal fire goes out and I can reuse the charcoal again. All I have to do is add a few charcoal briquettes to the existing coal and I am set to go. This is money savings that eventually pay for the grill. Love this grill.

…but after more than 25 years of frequent use and outdoor summer storage, I’m not complaining. After all that time and use, one of the leg joints has failed on the kettle body, so it’s time to retire it. I’ll most likely get the same model. I like the locking bale that lets you clip the dome lid in place for easy carry. The placement of the vents at either side, rather than lower down, like the other 14” model, doesn’t seem to limit the airflow, and means no ash-catcher tray needed. It’s too small for an entire chicken of any size, with the lid on, but cut in pieces and you can grill or smoke just fine. This a great small grill and I’m glad I got it.

I really do live the color and looking forward to getting his 22” bigger brother. As some have stated having the holes on the side and not the bottom does not the grill get searing hot with the lid on. I tend to use this and my other 14 in grills for cooking with a cast iron skillet and using the lid as a cover if needed fir said skillet. Having the lid off really gets the skillet going. I have cooked steaks and a wide variety of dishes. If I need a portable grill I have a jumbo joe to cook burgers, steaks, etc.. I love the 14 inch grills and will probably end up collecting the various color combos.

The grill is very well made, and I love the option of having a cool color like slate blue. The downside is that I can't figure out how to regulate the temperature of the coals without any kind of temperature gauge. I've reached out to customer support to see if there's a temperature device I can attach to the grill, or put on the inside of the grill, and have not heard back from Weber. I'd love to be able to use this grill regularly for quick meals, but struggle to find the temp balance and have to move partially cooked food to my gas grill. I really LOVE Weber products, but this one has me struggling to love it.

I initially just bought this to have a safe place to start additional Rapidfire chimneys for my travel Jumbo Joe, but found it was quite versatile by itself. Using one Weber 7402 Charcoal Bar, (unfortunately no longer made,) and a piece of foil to make a drip pan and direct airflow from the vents on the indirect side to the charcoal bar, I was able to easily divide the charcoal grate for two-zone cooking. The side vents make it easy to regulate the temperature (and provide a convenient way to run thermometer probes in,) and I had no trouble holding 250F to bring two thick pork chops to 135F internal before searing them on the direct side with the lid open. Perfect on the very first try!
