Quality and ease of use.
I have always wanted one of these original kettle grills. I had an opportunity to get one of these as an award and I did. I love this grill. These grills are top quality. One of the things that has always impressed me about these kettle grills is how evenly they cook. They are so consistent and you don't have to worry about making sure they are perfectly level like you do a gas grill. There are no cold spots unless you want one. All have to do is arrange you charcoal. In short I am really enjoying this thing.

Way overpriced!! Poor quality!!
This was my first webber (im not impressed at all) there is no adjustment on the grill and the tabs that are welded on to hold the grill are very poor and put on at different heights so its tough to keep the grill in place. I will never buy another thats for sure. Not a quality grill at all. If i could have returned it i would have. I grill often and will use my Ausse grill it is far better and about half the cost. Good luck webber.
Maybe in the past you built quality grills that is not the case any longer.

weber grills

whats to say, the best is still the best, this is my 2nd 22" weber, the other one was bought in 1987 and had to be humanely put down after only 32 years of service. it survived being rolled around the back yard in a ferocious storm, falling out of a truck at least once and various other damages(some alcohol induced)it sat crooked, the grate was bent and the original wooden handles were rotting away so it was unceremoniously disposed of. if it lasts 32 years ill be 91. looking forward to wearing this one out

Excellent Grill - Minor Issue
I've owned many Weber grills over the years. I use it at least five times a week. I've noticed the changes over time. In the end the grill is great. But as time takes it's toll I can think of two things that were not appreciated. One, the grill itself, the cooking surface above the fire, along with the coal grill at the bottom have gotten thinner over time. And the three side tabs that hold the coal support have become shorter. Neither is a show stopper but noticeable. Again, all-in-all a great product.

Pros and Cons of the new Kettle Grill
I have had a Weber Kettle grill for over 50 years and love cooking with charcoal. I did notice this new Kettle grill has changed, some for the better like plastic handles instead of wood handles. the two negatives are the lack of two handles so that you are able to lift the grill to move when you can't roll the grill and the other is that the new grill lacks the ability to add charcoal when using the rails for indirect cooking like roast or ribs. Also the top grill is not as the quality as old grill'

Go back to the last lid design
This makes my 3rd 22" Weber grill that I have owned and noticed that the redesigned lid is inferior to previous models. The hook on the inside appears to be smaller and is harder to hook on the side of the grill while cooking. Also, while a good idea to use bolts and nuts on the lid handle the flange is so large that I can no longer use a small sauce pan on top for my basting sauce. I bought an even smaller pan yet it slides off due to the lack of space between the handle and the curve of the top.

Okay Replacement
Although I like this WEBER replacement for the one I had of same size for many, many years, it doesn't appear to be built of the same quality as my previous Weber grills. The interior brackets holding the grill, as well as the more flimsy material used for the grill itself leaves much to be desired; it doesn't sit well and is easily misplaced during grilling. Apparently WEBER has gone the way-of-the-world and skimmed on thickness of materials, etc. That said, WEBER is still my choice for grills...

Just retiring the old Kettle from 1975
The old Weber that my parents bought in the mid 70s. Judging by the lid vent, and bowl vent tabs, I'd call it a 1975. It has been in use every summer up until this year (2024). One of the leg sockets detached from the bowl and due to rust, will probably not be able to be repaired. I'm going to try though.
I just bought a new Original Kettle 22 inch. Build quality seems comparable to the one my parents bought, so I'm assuming another 50 years of service from this one. I'll definitely be dead by the.

Old faithful
My Weber kettle finally broke. I owned it for 28 years and used it about every other week. It travelled with me from South Africa to CA to AZ to MI. No parts had been replaced. The only repairs were the addition of screws to prevent the legs from detaching. Cooking on the grill was a pleasure. Heat was distributed evenly over the surface and easily regulated. The 22" was perfect for my family. The welding on the handle has failed. The rust is starting to get under the paint so I will replace it.

Cooks anything much better than big box gas grills
5 years ago
I have a big box gas grill I use when I don't have time to get charcoal going, but with a charcoal metal pipe starter, it's pretty easy to get charcoal going. I actually used webers years ago but then go the big box gas grill - it was easy but everything I cooked was overdone or underdone. The webers shape and your ability to control the air flow makes it the best cooker by far, makes all of your food taste so much better sometimes I decide NOT to cook out if I don't have time to use the Weber.

A New Life
OK full disclosure here. I didn't buy a new 22" grill. I was gifted one that was well over several years old. The charcoal and cooking grates were broken, rusted and deformed and the one touch ash removal fins were inoperable. The ash pan was also beat up pretty bad. I was able to get new Weber parts that fit exactly and touched up some dings and dents with a hammer and some hi-temp paint. It works great now and I'm looking forward to many more years of making great tasting food on the kettle!

Good Grill
Weber grills in general are well made and versatile. It is easy to cook or smoke just about anything in, unless it is huge.
The hood of the grill allows plenty of room to cook under and the grates last a long time.
I used my last one a ton, and it lasted a good 8 years.
The only downside of this “one touch” grill is the mechanism that sweeps the ashes out of the grill base. This metal degrades too quickly, which renders that function useless well before the grill needs to be replaced.

A Hint of Nostalgia in a Reliable Product
4 years ago
A grill I can rely on, simple and direct. The Original Kettle Charcoal Grill 22" is basic and exactly what I wanted in time of chaos and uncertainty. Here it sits, the original form of a grill, just as I remember as a child, and it delivers the juiciest meats and veggies roasted perfectly. It was easy to assemble and is so substantial and well made, the parts all cut so they actually fit(!), it is like a memory of the way things used to be when they were reliable and reasonable in cost.

Weber Forever
I'm from northern Illinois and became familiar with Weber grills very early on. My Dad would use the rotisserie on his Weber and smoke a turkey for Thanksgiving and other times of the year. I have the same setup and use it regularly for steaks, chicken, turkeys, burgers etc. Living in Florida now and the grill has come in handy at times during hurricane season. The Weber 22" is the only charcoal grill I've ever owned. Looking forward to using my new Weber turning out some tasty food!

Versatile Charcoal Grill. Cooks to Perfection
6 years ago
Recently received my Weber Kettle as a gift. Over the past few years I had used propane for the convenience. After grilling for the first time on my new Weber Kettle, I became reacquainted with the grilling experience. The food was much tastier cooked with charcoal and the smoke from wood chips. And cleaning the Kettle grill was very easy.
The Weber experience brings back memories of summer evenings, camping, and carefree weekends with family and friends. Happy Times!
Thanks Weber!

Grill Never Gets Hot Enough
I can't seem to get it to heat up. I have changed out the charcoal, I have tried different vent settings, I have tried different quantities of charcoal and where it is placed in the grill. It just never seems to reach a searing temperature. It took 10 to 15 minutes for charcoal to get started and then another 1 hour and 20 minutes to cook 6 chicken thighs the other evening. I have friends with the bigger Webber and they have no problem. I just need to figure out if it's the grill or me.

What more can you say about a Classic ????
Well I wanted to get a charcoal grill to go with a weber gas grill. I was on vacation and used an old school weber kettle the whole week. We cooked steaks, chicken, fish and shrimp and it was great!!! The food was perfect and had the old school flavor that only charcoal can deliver. I just broken in the new weber kettle with three monster ribeye steaks. They were awesome. If you have time to use a charcoal grill do it!! Weber is the only one to get. They last forever and work great.

Junk
Bought April 28 2020
This Weber kettle is junk
The lid moves 1/4" in all directions allowing smoke to escape defeating the lid vent from functioning correctly
The grill grate is cheap thin nickel plated metal. That has a tendency to slip off the supports
The ash catcher gets in the way of hooking the lid on the side
The poor fitting lid prevents the lid vent from functioning correctly and prevents quick shutdown saving the coals
The quality is just not there

Hello, thank you for taking your time to submit your review! We are very sorry to hear about the experience you are having with your grill. Please know that we do stand behind our product and customer and we want you to have the best grilling experience. Your grill lid should sit nice and snug on your bowl, however if you see a small smoke escape from the lid that is fine and your food will not be affected. But your grill grate should not be falling off from the support. It should be sitting steady inside the bowl. At your convenience, please reach out to our support team and we will be happy to look into these further for you!

Lid is too tight.
I have made a few really nice dinners overall so am happy with the purchase. I have used many Webers in the past, including gas ones. I respect the quality and craftsmanship.
My reason for four stars is that the lid doesn’t fit easily on the grill - it is too tight and you have to push down to put it in right. If you don’t pay attention, it falls. With the millions of lids Weber has made over the years, I’m surprised that this isn’t working! On other ones it fits like a glove.

Ultimate Grill of grills
I had one back in the 80’s. Unfortunately I got caught up in the microwave, “gotta have it now” culture, gave it away and got a gas grill. It finally dawned me that gas just doesn’t compare to the grilling quality of charcoal. Not to mention having to replace expensive parts over the years. I can pre-smoke my ribs and finish them perfectly. Glad to be back at the tried and true experience of basic BBQ. I set it up with a custom, recycled Redwood grilling station.

Amazing long lasting charcoal grill!
I've never owned a large grill before I purchased the "Original Kettle Charcoal Grill 22 inch". I have had two "Smokey Joe's" prior to this purchase and really enjoyed them for over 28 years each. Now I can smoke/cook for our family get togethers with much more ease, instead of having to smoke/cook several items one at a time. I love the smell and taste of charcoal; I also start my charcoal with the Weber tower charcoal starter and get cooking faster without the mess and smell of dangerous charcoal lighter in my food. Thank you for a great product for over 28 years of cooking on my Weber charcoal grills. As a side note: I still have a small collection of the printed Weber grilling newsletters (I can't remember what they were called) that were mailed every month after purchasing my first Smokey Joe in 1991. Thanks again!

Good Starting Point.
Having never BBQ'd before, this is a good starting model. Well built and holds a hot fire, but very basic. There is no place to put the lid except on my patio stones, the charcoal ash falls to the tray below but on a windy day can be messy, and cooking the food has been a hit or miss without a temperature gauge. Everytime I use it, I wish I had bought the Premium model.
Oh well, it was very good value for the money and I now know what to get for my next one.

A kettle for work
Picked up this no frills kettle to leave at work and Grill on late afternoons with colleagues. I have a Performer at home for last three years and have been very happy with results. Although I learned to adjust my vent settings to keep a steady low temp for hours without having to refuel, I still purchased a spider venom controller and use it with a diffuser plate. This setup is very clean and really looks how this should come from the factory. Weber take notes!

Great flavor
I bought this grill as an addition to the natural gas Weber grill we have had for many years. I missed the charcoal flavor. This original grill is easy to use but I haven't yet used enough charcoal. I am using natural charcoal not briquettes and can't get it through my head that you have to use substantially more due to the irregular shape. I do wish Weber made a high quality hinged grate for this grill to make it easier to add more charcoal during cooking.

Bring back the old Weber Kettle
Weber over the years has cheapened their grills. The metal is a thinner gauge steel making it harder to hold heat and keep temps. The lid needs a gasket to seal. A sloppy fitting lid allows air in and this will also affect your temps. They switched the venting to a vent/ash clean out. This was the worse idea as, one it doesn’t seal the air intakes that well again making it difficult to hold temps. Two it clogs with grease and will get hard to move and then the wings bend. They should have stuck to the original Weber kettle. Heavy gauge steel, disk dampers which are/were the best. I own the old and have owned several of the old style and they just perform with competition worthy BBQ. I’ll continue to look for old ones at rummage sales . As far as the new onesI ,throw them in the trash. Wake up Weber make the old ones again.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Fantastic versatile grill
After grilling on a gas Weber for the last 5 years I decided I wanted to try a charcoal kettle grill. Everyone I know swears by their Weber kettle. I bought this and a premium kettle in the last week. Both are fantastic. I’ve made wings, a pork butt, a turkey breast and a couple of great steaks with them. Both are fantastic. I’m new to charcoal but it’s been easy to control the temperature. I liked them both so much I bought a Smokey Joe to try out.

Charcoal is renewable.
My 22" kettle is my buddy during the weekend and some days of the week. I use the chimney starter to get everything going, and get all the vegetables and bread ready to toss on when the time is right. Sometimes I sous vide the meat prior to grilling, but my 25 year old Weber usually knows how to do the rest. I recently got a grill pad to place on the grill, so asparagus won't fall through. The grill accessories from Weber are really perfect for this as well.

Wonderful
Hello all,
I just wanted to say that I have had my 22”kettle bbq pit for 20 years and all I can say is that it is still a wonderful pit even after all of these years
It was money well spent back then and still is
I’ve had to do a little bit of replacement of grills but that’s it other than some cleaning.
Again if your in debate on whether or not to get one it is worth it
Also remember just be good to it and it will be good to you for years to come.

Best grill ever made
This is the best grill ever made. Simple and eas to use. I’ve had an original for 30 plus years. For a couple years I tried a gas grill but just couldn’t do it. I had to get back to charcoal, I also thought about trying another brand but I just couldn’t dit. They say you can’t stop a Train, well you can’t beat a Webber. And this time I got the rotisserie kit with it, and holy cow, I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner. Back to loving to barb b q again.

Big Fan

I've been a Weber kettle fan/user for over 30 years. I've been doing Thanksgiving turkeys and Christmas rib roasts on them for just about that long, and weekly meals of all sorts as well. This most recent purchase was a gift I sent to my son and his family for Thanksgiving, as they live in another state and I couldn't fly with MY Weber! The meal came out great as always. I also own a Smokey Joe and a Jumbo Joe because we like to camp. Great products!
