Excellent Product
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just received this spreader via FEDEX. It comes preassembled. It was well packaged. Unfolded the handle and adjusted the easy to read dial for my fertilizer application. Filled the hopper and was ready to go. The edge guard worked perfectly along flower beds and sidewalks. Access is kind of a pain but it is not a continual use adjustment so it doesn't distract from the product. The mixer at the bottom of the hopper broke up clumps of fertilizer easily. Application was smooth and even throughout the yard. Very pleased with this machine and I would highly recommend it. It cleaned up quickly with the garden hose and is ready for its next use.

This doesn’t work.

Yeah, nice spreader. Doesn’t spread top soil. I guess the soil is comprised of too many bigger pieces and the chute is too small, but for a product that’s supposed to spread any number of materials, this one falls short. Not super optimistic about my chances with seed after its performance so far and after reading the reviews. Thanks for another top quality, high priced Scott’s product that doesn’t work. Great job, guys. I mean, I assume you guys have some type of testing facility for products in development, so here’s a suggestion: the ones that don’t work go back to the drawing board, not the marketplace. Thanks for wasting my time and money.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Spreader and appreciate your feedback. We do not recommend applying soil with any of our spreaders. Soil is too heavy and will likely damage the spreader.

Doesn’t do the job.
I have been using Scotts fertilizer and weed control products for years. I bought the mini last fall to replace a 40 year old Ortho broadcast spreader. I was tired of calculating the Ortho’s setting every time I used a Scotts product and I thought the edge guard was a good idea and it was a Scotts product. I have now used the mini twice and am very disappointed in it. I found it stopped spreading after one trip around the yard and was inconsistent in the amount being spread when it did work. I don’t think the agitator is designed properly to the job and can’t break up even small clumps of fertilizer. I am back to using my 40 year old Ortho.

Small size does big work!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I unboxed my new Scotts® Turf Builder® Edgeguard® Mini Broadcast Spreader when it arrived. I loosened the handle bolts and moved the upper part of the handle into place. The handle bolts and wing nuts tightened up with no problem.
I took the grass seed I wanted to spread and poured a small amount into the hopper expecting it to work like other small spreaders; problematic. To my surprise this little spreader is a beast. Even though I have about 2 acres of lawn area total it works like a champ. I especially like the edge guard feature around our ornamental gardens. This is one tough little workhorse. A big thumbs up from this happy homeowner!

Make your lawn care a breeze.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Scott’s Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Broadcast Spreader make lawn care almost a walk in the park. I have a smaller lawn, just 11,000 square feet, with 2 flowerbeds and a concrete driveway in my front yard and various flowering plants in the back.
The edge guard makes it easy to spread fertilizer, pre-emergent, or weed and feed exactly where you want it and keep it away from areas where you don’t.
The spreader is easy to use, of good quality, does the job it is designed to do, and is versatile enough for use with varied products.
I highly recommend the Turf Builder EdgeGuard Mini Broadcast Spreader. You won’t be disappointed.

Works Great

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This was a replacement for my 15 year old Scotts Spreader. What a great job Scotts did with the upgrades on this model. First the spreader was shipped right to my door and the handle folds up conveniently. The next thing I noticed was the drop amount adjuster was So Easy to operate and the spring handle that closes as you let go, No more remembering to push the button to stop the flow. Finally since I received this in the Fall I applied the Scotts Turf Builder WinterGuard. The Edge Guard addition was especially nice around our inground pool and was surprised how nothing remained in the hopper the design funnels everything to the opening.
ProsEasy to Use, great design
Yes, I recommend this product.

Cannot control nor calibrate spreader coverage
8 years ago
This spreader spreads too heavily per the recommended settings, and there is no means for calibrating it. Normally I use this spreader for edges and then use my larger Scotts Speedy Green 3000 for the entire yard. This spring I used it for a large section of the lawn but discovered that is was spreading too heavily and unevenly. Even after setting it at HALF the recommended rate it still spread too heavily. As a result my lawn incurred some burning in large areas and severe burning in many spots.
I would like to return this spreader but unfortunately did not save my receipt.
.In general Stott's products are great but I would not recommend this one!
ProsEasy to Use
ConsDifficult to use, Didn't work as expected, spreads too heavily
No, I do not recommend this product.

Nice improvement on an already good product.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Sometimes it's the little things that make the difference. I bought my last Scotts spreader at least 10 years ago. It works fine and I have never had any issues with it. This new model has two main improvements over the older one. First, the dial to set the amount of product that comes out is larger and easier to set. The last one seemed more like an approximation. Now, I feel like I am "clicked" in to a setting. The second improvement is the curb guard. As someone that has already stained not only my own side walk but that of my neighbor, any and all help in keeping the product where it should be is a welcome improvement.
