This stuff is actually choking out the crab grass
a year ago
We only apply this every couple of years. After thatching in the spring. If it's dry we water every couple of days. Also, before application we spread manure on the yard in the fall just before snow, to keep down the smell and so that the snow melt in the spring breaks the manure down into the soil better.

I’ve never used the product to specifically address bald patches. I use it to feed my entire lawn, as soil is shallow and poor. Drastic improvement. For patches that truly have no grass at all, I buy something with more seed. This product does do exactly what I hoped, I’m quite happy with it.

It’s not grass seed.

Purchases this at one of the large box stores, thought sure why not try it, it’s a name brand… had to wait for the warmer weather to put it down. After 8-9 days, there was some growth, to my surprise it wasn’t grass!! Now I have mixed weed in my lawn. Very disappointed, will never buy again!

I had a few bare patch’s in my front lawn. Bought two bags of this seed and a bunch of top soil. I put a thin layer of top soil and a good spreading of this seed over and it’s been weeks watering everyday and nothing came up. Extremely disappointed and was a waste of money

Does not work

Bought the largest size of this bag thinking that this would germinate lawn seed faster than regular seed. It has been 3 weeks with constant watering and moisture and the grass seed is still sitting on the lawn. The seeds did not germinate at all.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Scotts Lawn Response 9-1-1 and appreciate your feedback.
For best results, daytime temperatures need to be consistently 18.3℃ (65℉) or higher. This grass seed will germinate at its best when temperatures are consistently between 15.6℃ & 26.6℃ (60℉-80℉). Cool nighttime temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination but will not hurt the seed. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed growth. Do not use a weed preventer prior to seeding or a weed control that is registered for lawn use until the new grass has been cut at least 4 times. While some germination may be seen in 7 days under ideal growing conditions, it will take about a month for the seed to fully germinate.

Turf builder does build turf

(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I bought this product because my lawn was not thriving. I thought that I spread it a bit late in the season so I wasn’t sure it would work. It took about 10 days & I started seeing a noticeable difference in the lawn. It was much thicker.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I first spread remaining seed on hand from last year but had no results. I then spread out new turf-building topsoil and bought a new bag of Scotts 911, seeded, watered regularly, good temps and weather. Nothing at all.

This Grass Seed will germinate best when temperatures are consistently in the 15.6 to 26.6 degrees Celsius range). In the spring it takes a lot of consistent warm temperatures to warm up the soil, especially in Canada. Cool night time temperatures and fluctuating temperatures will slow germination. Germination time is based on ideal conditions of soil warmth and a constant amount of moisture.

I raked up the yard during spring cleanup, hit the entire yard with 911, 2 weeks later not a difference whatsoever. We have head plenty of fair temperatures, sunny days, rain, no idea how this hasnt taken at all.

For this seed mix, which contains bluegrass, fescues and perennial ryegrass, soil temperatures must be at least 12.7 Celsius for Grass Seed to germinate. Daytime temperatures need to be consistently 18.3 Celsius or higher. In the spring it takes a lot of consistent warm temperatures to warm up the soil, especially in Canada. If seeded too early in the spring, the seed is still good and will most likely germinate once temperatures warm up.

You should start seeing germination in 7 days under ideal growing conditions. It will take about a month for all the seed to germinate. For this seed mix, soil temperatures must be at least 12.7° C. This means daytime temperatures need to consistently 18.3° C or higher. Both excessive moisture and not enough moisture can inhibit seed germination. If a weed control is used, it will either prevent the seeds from germination outright or destroy the seedlings as they emerge.
