Mold
I bought this last year, probably because there was nothing else available when I needed it. I usually only buy organic. As others have mentioned, the mix is very coarse. Well, I did not see big pieces of bark, it seems too coarse for seeds. Also online, it doesn't list the actual ingredients.. That seems a bit shady to me.
But the worst thing is, now I look in the bag and there is mold growing. I don't know whether I should throw it out. Also, mould was growing around the peat seed containers.
I might have given it 2 stars because my seedlings are all growing. But 2 stars, is "fair" and I don't think that is correct.

We're sorry to read about your disappointment with Miracle-Gro Seed Starting and appreciate your feedback. Fungal mold spores including mushroom producing fungus are a natural part of soils It just takes the right conditions for the spores to develop into a fungus or mold. In fact fungus mold have been scientifically proven to improve the growth of plants by releasing nutrients from the organic material that growing media are typically.

Grow plants, own a gnat farm!
I try not to turn my nose to products just because of company size and corporate reputation so I've used miracle grow products for quite a few years. I started over 300 plants with the product this year and within weeks I was completely infested with gnats and their harmful larvae. These starts were in isolation with no other plants, soils etc in the area. I'm now trying to save my financial and time investment fighting this problem. I don't recommend this product unless you want to follow it up with even more expense in finding solutions to the problems it presents. It is so odd that you ask gender on a product review.
No, I do not recommend this product.

We are sorry to hear of your experience with Miracle Gro Seed Starting Potting Mix. These fungus gnats do not harm humans and do little plant damage (they primarily feed on the fungus found naturally in soil). Possible ways to control fungus gnats include allowing the soil to dry out as much as possible between watering will help control the larvae. You can contact us if you would like to continue discussing this or if you want to know about our product guarantee. You can reach us here https://tinyurl.com/mds8zo5.

Negative Reviews Seem Wrong
As another reviewer stated, I am not understanding all the negative reviews. People are complaining about sticks and wood, when they seem not to understand that a starting mix is NOT the same thing as dirt. Starting mix is lighter and less compacted to allow more breathing room. Also, complaints about mold and unknown growth might be due to pots that were not cleaned and sterilized with a bleach-water spray before potting, or particular bags of the mix might, in fact, have been infested, but I think the company might replace that, if you just reach out to them. I did a previous review, but I'm doing another one to counteract the negativity. And I'm including a picture this time.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Infested With Ants, Lost My Seedlings
DO NOT BUY THIS UNLESS YOU PLAN ON POURING BOILING WATER OVER IT, OR BAKING YOUR SOIL FIRST. I used this, indoors with our grow light to start all our seedlings this year. Started noticing a problem with small black ants not long after. Finally discovered the source was in one of my seedling pots. There was an ENTIRE colony of ants living in my 5” pot that I filled with this soil. We had to toss all our seedlings and we’re now 4-5 weeks behind in our growing season because this soil was full of ant larva/eggs. It all went in the compost, but I regret not saving t and sending it back as proof. I will be filing an official complaint with Miracle Gro and hope they take my complaint seriously

Product won't hold water
I always buy miracle grow products for everything I need for over 20 years. BUT this product needs to be "fixed". I planted 5 trays of peas and tried to water them for 2 weeks. The soil is basically all peat and it won't hold water. The water pools, it drips over the edge. Finally after 2 weeks I dumped everything into a tub mixed it with another miracle grow soil and replanted all my peas. Funny thing is there were all my seeds in the peat moss "dust" they never even got wet after 2 weeks of watering. It's not really funny I lost 2 weeks of growing time and a lot of $ on 6 bags of this seed starting potting soil and now I'll have to doctor it up to use it. Basically I bought $$ peat moss.
ConsDidn't work as expected, Difficult to use, won't hold water at all

Yellow leaves
I used the Miracle Gro Seed Starting soil for the first time this year. The soil appears to be a lightweight soil that holds water well. My problem I ran into was some of my plants that were started in the Miracle Gro soil have yellow leaves. I have not run into this problem before when starting seeds so I looked up possible causes. As best I can find the seedlings appear to be suffering from to many salts in the potting mix from the fertilizer. I have transplanted the seedlings into new pots with new soil and flushed out the soil to try and save the seedlings. Time will tell if it works.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Rocks in my potting soil?!
I have used this seed starting mix for years and usually it is great. This year, as I was transferring my hydroponically started seeds to their own pots I found a number of ROCKS in the mix! It’s a newly opened bag, so I know it wasn’t my 4 year old “helping” this time. I’ve never encountered something like this with the seed starting mix; I’ve come across 2-3” chunks of wood in regular miracle grow potting soil, of course, but I thought this was more finely screened? Idk. Still pretty good stuff. Wish they’d move to something more eco friendly like coir, though.
Yes, I recommend this product.
