An old friend
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have been using this product for about 40 years. During that time, I've tried others, but have always come back. For example, I had a pot with 4 pony tail palms in it. When it came time to repot, they were put into pots with MIRACLE GROW and have been in Miracle Grow for over 15 years. The biggest one is now over 6 ft tall and is the largest one I have ever seen in a pot. It is now putting out little shoots form the base of the plant. So, YES, I would say Miracle Grow is a quality product ,and it is the only one I trust and the only one I use. With results like this there is NO reason to switch. THANKS MIRACLE GROW FOR ALL THE GOOD YEARS!

NO - this potting mix is not even decent.

Purchased for all of my container, ornamental plants - not a quality product, big chunks of wood. Smaller-pak annuals struggling. The larger container plants are ok, likely due to the additional soil found in the containers. All of my calibrochoa is yellowed and dying out - pH? I will go back to a higher quality potting mix next year - with the cost of the annual flowers, stupid to save a few buck on terrible potting mix! Miracle-Gro, don't you know that regaining your customer base is going to be MUCH more difficult than if you would have maintained a quality product and let your prices reflect those costs? Just check your ratings!

this item was awful!
I have been purchasing Miracle Gro products for years, and have been satisfied until recently, I purchased the potting mix to transplant some plants. About a week or so after my plants were transplanted I started noticing little flies around my plants. I checked in the pots and there was little larvae in the soil. I took the soil from the plants and rinsed them thoroughly then went to get the bag of soil and when I opened it up, dozens of those little flies flew out. The soil I purchased was infested with the bugs. Gross! I don't know if it because this soil has so much mulch in it or not. I know I will not be purchasing this ever again!

We are sorry to hear of your experience with Miracle-Gro Potting Mix. The soil you purchased is a natural product. We do not sterilize the soil nor do we claim to on the package. In addition, soils and mulches may become infested with insects while in storage as they are waiting for sale.
In some cases, soils become infested with fungus gnats. Fungus gnats enter the bagged product through the tiny air holes in the bag that are necessary for the soil to "breathe". Fungus gnats are often mistaken for fruit flies. They do little damage but are unpleasant if present in large numbers. These insects do not feed upon plants, but lay their eggs in soil that contains organic matter. After a week the eggs hatch, and the larvae crawl through the upper layer of the soil. The larvae are white, 1/4 inch long, and have black heads. They feed on fungi that grow on organic matter. The larvae usually do not damage plants but, when present in large numbers, may feed on the roots of some plants, killing very young seedlings. The larvae feed for about 2 weeks before maturing into adults. There can be many generations in a single year.
Below are some steps you can take:
-Let the soil dry out more between each watering. Dry soil can help kill the larvae. Most people tend to over water their plants, and this can make the problem worse. It's especially important to drain the saucers of excess water. Anything left after an hour should be poured out.
-Apply at least 1/2 inch of sand on top of the soil of potted/container plants. Larvae cannot burrow through the sand and will die. Sand should be left on the container for several weeks, until the problem is solved.
-Insects will not disappear overnight. It may take several weeks but you should begin to see a reduction in insect numbers. All houseplants in the home should be treated.

Fertilizer burn and GNATS
I've been sending daily pics of my plant to the grower and they insist it's fertilizer burn even though I have not admitted to them I used Miracle Grow because I didn't want them to pass the buck blame it on that. Clearly they are right.
I'm also irritated that MGro has not responded to emails asking for advice about its use.
Side note...reading the Gnat comments sounded all too familiar. We can't sit out in the early evening because they are everywhere and yes, they swarm from the MGro bag.
I believe in you get what you pay for and that's why I bought "the best". Ha!

Mulch and Gnats Mix
I had bought the Moisture control a few months back and the “soil” would stay moist and started rotting all of my plants. So, I decided to go back to the regular type of potting soil even though I was previously having the same problem gnats and soil not drying after weeks. Apparently, nothing has changed and perhaps worse. This bag is basically an overpriced bag of fertilized mulch. Which has really increased the gnats that I was previously trying to rid the previous plants with other Miracle gro soil of. Not sure what to do now since most stores seem to only carry miracle gro or cheap brands. Maybe I’ll buy the cheap kind without gnats and amend.

Nearly killed my lemon tree
I bought a large bag of the Potting Mix and used it to repot a small lemon tree. The tre was thriving with large thick leaves. It even started to produce flower buds throughout the plant. After I repotted using MG leaves started dropping. My pollinated flowers stopped growing a fell off. It was not over watered or lacked sunlight. Eventually the plant dropped all leaves and flowers. Stem tips started to dry out. Finally in desperation, I removed all of the MG soil, water spraying if from the roots and replacing it with true soil from my garden. The roots looked healthy. Hopefully I will be able to save the lemon tree. I’ll never buy MG soils again.

White fungus
I bought at large bag of Miracle Grow Potting Mix in the spring. I just opened and used it in August to repot my house plants. Within a few weeks I noticed blotches of white fungus growing on the surface of the soil in the pots. I removed it and stirred up the soil but it keeps recurring. The plants seem to be OK as of October 1. I had sealed the half used bag up to store and just opened it. The white fungus thickly covered the surface of the soil left in the bag. When I stirred it, the fungus was throughout the soil and it was very damp inside the bag. I threw it out and will not purchase this kind of potting mix again. I just hope my plants survive!

We are very sorry, Liz, that you encountered mold in your Miracle-Gro Potting Mix. Fungal/mold spores (including mushroom producing fungus) are a natural part of soils. It just takes the right conditions for the spores to develop into a fungus or mold. The mold and fungus that grows on soils and mulch will not harm plants and is safe for people and pets to be around. If you have any questions or would like further assistance, please contact us at https://tinyurl.com/y9nlw5xl and one of our representatives would be glad to assist you. We hope this experience has not caused you to lose faith in our product, as we use reviews like yours to maintain and improve the quality product that you and other consumers have come to know and love.

Confusing weather.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I like the product, easy to use and my plants are doing very well. This is the rainy time for us here in Florida, every day my plants are flooded out with torrential rain, and then after the rain comes the sun. It dries out the plants with its awful heat. I used about half the bag and am saving the other half for when the weather is more even. But so far they are doing well, so something is working!
The weather is not usually this extreme, my tomato plants, squash etc. are not doing as well, the tops of several of the plants are burnt from he sun, and so far, no tomatoes, the winds are blowing any blossoms on the vegetable plants.
