I own a lawn care landscape company, and running a chainsaw for tree/brush cleanup is a must. Being used to running one with gasoline, I was immediately awed by the lack of weight, needless to say hearing an electric chainsaw run immediately made me sceptical. All-in-all the M-18 fuel far exceeded my expectations work-wise, it was amazingly quick, light, and easy to use. Only minuscule issue that occurred, popped the chain off the bar mid-cut, I noticed when removing housing from tensioner screw and other bolts that the chain had really taken a bite out of the plastic around the gear it had jumped from.

Great saw with fantastic battery life

I use this saw around my property for cutting up fallen or dead trees. I bought as I own a a ton of Milwaukee tools and am in the ecosystem. My previous saw, a stihl ms170 was a pain as I never ran it very much and had to drain gas when storing it. With the Milwaukee it’s pick up and go...instant torque and just as good or better than the Stihl. No loud noise is a plus as well. The only issue I have noticed is the bar oil leaks when sitting for a bit. My other saw did this too but I’ve read other users having an issue with it as well. I’ve stored it on its side with the fill cap facing up and so far I haven’t noticed any leakage. It would also be nice if a storage case was available.

Not a fan of the trigger safety. Should be integrated into the handle like how a gas saw is, grip safety. Onboard tool storage is nice but tool too small. Hard to remove and use with heavy work gloves. Same with bar nuts. Prefer larger ones or how about a tool free design? Stop gap would be captive but design... A wrench with longer handle would be better. Have it slide into the rear of the saw and leave maybe 1/4 inch from the wrench sticking up would help to pop it out with gloves. Run time decent on battery. Definitely won't replace my gas saws. As always, right tool for the right job...

Very happy with the saw

I was pretty surprised at how well this cut. I have a 20inch Echo gas powered saw, and an old Craftsman 19.2 volt 10 inch saw. The Milwaukee cuts six inch logs as fast as the Echo. It has a thinner bar and chain, so that helps the speed as it has less material to move. But I have not noticed it being less sturdy. The whole day is very balanced, and quiet. I love that it starts right up by pulling the trigger, as opposed to pull starting. You can set it down and work on something else and when you need it, just pull the trigger. The Craftsman was only good for think branches, but this can cut 12 inch logs with some patience. I had a bunch of trees come down in a storm and this was great.

The future of tree work!

We lost two 60 foot/18" diameter pines at the cottage this fall. I grew up working for an arborist and have used all types and sizes of gas chainsaws. I started with my gas chainsaw but quickly switched to the Milwaukee. For a few hours work this saw was lighter, quieter, easier to handle and cut just as well if not better. Didn't even have to replace batteries. I used a sawzall for some of the smaller branches which I'd never really done before and it worked great. Keep the guide area clean and your cuts straight and this saw will go all day. Definitely the future of tree work for me.(note that while you can see a gas chainsaw in one picture, it got used for less than 5 minutes!)

Fantastic saw

I have been using gas chainsaws for many years and find that this saw does a great job and seems to keep up with the saws in the 40-50cc range, fine for most people's uses. It is great for quick jobs in particular such as limbing a fallen tree or cleaning up shooting lanes for hunting. The 12 ah battery is great but it also performs well with my 5 ah and 8 ah batteries too. Engineers at Milwaukee thought things through with the included storage for the bar wrench (I wish they would have done this somehow on the pole saw though) and makes it very easy to stay productive. I recommend to all my friends/family to go this route if they are looking for a saw to use part time/intermittently.

Great saw for around the house or cottage or trail! I don’t have a lot of use in my day today, yard work for a chainsaw however I do go overland camping very often and not having to carry an extra few gallons of gas just for a chainsaw is really helpful! I’ve been moving away from gas power equipment for the past few years. I have the Milwaukee lawnmower, leaf blower, pole saw, and weed trimmer already. Having all these tools work off of the same battery system is really handy, not having to store gas in my shed is probably the best part! I have avoided buying a gas chainsaw for several years just because I don’t have a need to use one often enough to justify keeping gas around the shed

Leaks oil after first use

I purchased the M18 16" chainsaw in hopes of using it as opposed to my gas chainsaw. However, after the first use, the bar chain oil leaks out of the bottom like a sieve. Everywhere I set the chainsaw down or store it leaks bar chain oil all over. I have read some suggestions to 1. Drain the bar chain oil (who has time to do this). 2. Take the oil cap off after use to release the pressure (this is not correct). I would not purchase this product, I would not suggest this product to my worse enemy, and I would not even give this product away. It is a mess, needs to be taken off the market.

Nice saw but threw chain and leaks chain oil

This is the first battery powered chainsaw I owned. I own several other M18 tools and decided to purchase this saw. First impression was good...quiet and easy to use. However it threw the chain twice during the first use. Before I started using the saw I made sure the chain was adjusted properly. After it threw the chain the first time I made sure the chain was adjusted properly. However it threw it a second time. I own gas powered saws and never had an issue with throwing the chain. As I mentioned I like the saw but not impressed with the chain issue. Also, it seems to leak chain oil.

I probably use this chainsaw much harder than it was designed for but so far it does almost everything I need and doesn't complain. I cut 24"+ hardwood logs and it is amazingly fast. I dont reccomend ripping with it though. I attached the small Granberg mill to it, using the original chain and it was pretty slow & hard on the saw. I ground the teeth on the chain to make it a ripping chain and I was shocked how much difference it made. It rips much faster and crosscuts are unbelievably fast now. It does use the battery much faster ripping though. And you need the High Output batteries this saw.

Great product but would make some changes

I am a rough in plumber, mainly use the chainsaw for cutting walls and floors for 3” abs to pass thru, chainsaw works really well for the application use it for, but the only drawbacks are the bar and chain. I would provide an upgrade to a thicker bar and stronger chain. I can see a “flex” in the bar when cutting floors and if I hit a nail the chain is toast. Most teeth just snap off and trying to sharpen the chain with the small teeth is very tough. But overall I really like the ease of use, the start is fabulous, and the 12 amp battery almost lasts the entire week with one charge for me.

I got talked in to this purchase by a family member. I've already got a 2-stroke mixed gas chainsaw of a similar size. After using both saws, I would have to say that I would want to reach for the Milwaukee battery-operated saw first. It didn't miss a beat making about 32-35 cuts through 10" to 18" logs which were pretty wet. Re-charge time was acceptable, which gave me a break from steady wheely cutting work and allowed me to go alternate with something else such as splitting/stacking and/or moving stuff around in the wheelbarrow. So far, so good. I heartily recommend this product.

The saw cuts efficiently with power. The 12 battery lasts 45-60 minutes cutting large hardwood. The battery charges efficiently (45 minutes) with the super charger. The weight is good and balanced for a saw this size. So far, I've not had oil leakage problems which many report. I can't imagine using this saw with any other battery if you plan to cut big wood. My only complaint is: the saw, the 12 battery, the super charger were designed to be used together. SELL THEM TOGETHER AT A DISCOUNT. In addition, the case for the saw does not hold the super charger. CHANGE IT SO IT DOES.

Powerful Battery Operated Chainsaw

Great tool I am Milwaukee fan and was excited to see what this chainsaw could do. The packaging was great and clearly labeled where the fluids should go. After getting everything setup I found this was easy to handle and cut was no problem. I had my gas chainsaw at the time of cutting and switch off a couple time to see if I notice a difference. The Milwaukee chimainsaw was much quieter but has a power engine on startup. In my opinion the Milwaukee cut was much smoother than the gas chainsaw both did the same and got the wood cut but the Milwaukee seem to have a cleaner and faster cut.

The saw cuts better then expected, I was told that I’d be surprised as how well it would cut, I haven’t used a battery yet, so haven’t used it much. It’s long and kind of heavy, battery is very heavy, my only thing I would like to see different is around the chain case to be made of metal or something it just plastic and I’m expecting a chain to jump off at some point and that will get chewed up bad. Chains are expensive aswell because it’s the narrow style. Overall I am happy. Hope it lasts, Milwaukee needs to make a good carrying case for it, it gets oily and dirty and I’m not putting it in cab of vehicle but if it’s raining it can’t sit outside? Need a good case for it, should just come with one.

Okay saw, I should've bought something else.

Leaks oil out of the bottom and the motor housing every time it's in storage. I can have it in storage for a week and the oil reservoir will be completely empty. I've tried many different ways of storing it, with the oil cap on and off (to see if pressure build up was a problem) but to no avail. 3 year warranty is absolutely ridiculous for this tool and how expensive it is and it should be 5 years like all the other tools Milwaukee offers. It most definitely doesn't cut faster than gas, it will keep up, but it's not faster and the battery drains very quickly. Unless you have 3-4 12ah batteries ready to rotate, your only going to get about 20 minutes of cut time before you need to do a battery change.

L'utilisation de ma première charge complete n'a durer 1h00 alors que la deuxième charge a fait 1h30 deplus que je coupait du bouleau beaucoup plus groa que l'épinette de ma premiere coupe . Les batteries 5 amp regulier pour impact sont beaucoup utile pour enlever les braiche ou faire une trail car la scie devien beaucoup moin lourde ! Fantastic homeowner saw

This saw is fantastic! I have owned several gas saws, currently have a Stihl 16”, and this is my first cordless unit. I selected this item based on helpful info I got during an online customer service chat. My first use was to cut down an average sized dead oak tree and then to chop up the bits into firewood. This saw cuts through the oak as easily as my gas powered Stihl. It is so much easier and quieter to use, it is now my go-to saw for general yard cleanup after storms. I was pleasantly surprised that the brand new battery barely lost any juice after my 15-20 mins of use.

I'm just a homeowner who used this saw for a couple dozen times at the most for minor trimming and felling of small dead trees less than 6" diameter. It no longer works at all, nothing happens when I pull the trigger. The oil leaks out of the case, staining whatever surface it has been stored on. The chain fell off easily when it actually did work, which has never happened on any other saw I've used. I think it's because the blade is too cheap and flimsy, allowing it to bend. I have dozens of other Milwaukee tools that I have been very happy with, but this saw is just not good.

It looks very up to date in today’s standards . The chainsaw market is a very very competitive market with a very fierce competition to select from with a a lot of top contenders! The Milwaukee FUELM18 Chainsaw has many quality’s and comes equipped with some top factory features. There’s plenty of room for you to still add the customizations that most people like to add when purchasing a new chainsaw so don’t worry that you can’t make it your own!!! I would buy 10 more if I had a reason to . Unfortunately I haven’t even had a reason to use the one I already have yet. Just waiting very patiently for a new SEASON of AX MEN to come back on air. I’m a woodworker and home owner in a rural area. I have a lot of Milwaukee tools both corded and m18 battery. I have never had a Milwaukee tool let me down in any way. I also own a Stihl 036, and a Husqvarna 350. I bought the M2727 as soon as I could after its introduction. Its the only saw I grab now. Ive cut down and sawn into firewood trees as big as 14 inches, and it’s the almost equivalent in power to my gas saws. But the greatly reduced noise, no fumes, no mixing of fuel, sitting it down and just picking it up and pressing the trigger and going, trust me you’ll love this saw!!

It's an amazing chainsaw. I struggled with the price of the kit, which in hindsite might have been the wrong choice; purchased the bare tool and its my first from the Milwaukee line, so battery prices are the downside. It cuts through hardwood really nice with just a HC battery, looking forward to getting a high output battery on sale, which will make it even better. I researched it well, and the Milwaukee saw has a better overall build quality in this price range. I'm sticking to Milwaukee genuine batteries regardless. No regrets, it really is a great tool, makes the job easier.

I love my Milwaukee 16” battery operated saw. It is so much safer than my gas saw. I can set it down without worry that it might catch the brush on fire. I feel safer with my Milwaukee Battery operated saw because it stops immediately when i release the trigger, unlike my gas saw, which often kept running, even though it shouldn't have. I also love that i do not have to pull start it, as i have rotator cuff tears. Additionally, it is so much easier to keep clean than my other gas saw! Adding to these pluses, my Milwaukee 16” Battery saw is lighter than my other brand 14” gas saw.

Great replacement for light to medium gas saw

This saw is a great replacement for a gas saw to make cuts up to around 12”. I was having problems keeping my gas saw running so I used a friends saw to limb up 3 forty plus foot trees, as well as, trim about a dozen more. After that, I was sold and bought my own, which I have used to cut up several fallen trees. With two high capacity batteries and a fast charger, I can stay in business. The only complaint so far is the chain sometimes will jump off the bar if the cut is too far off of 90 degrees or if cutting a small branch that snaps back. Other than that, I highly recommend.

I really like the quality, it feels very sturdy, it's fast and has power. I've used a dewalt one and the ego electric chainsaw and I can say I definitely prefer the milwaukee chainsaw. I like how the milwaukee uses the same bolts/tension system as gas chainsaws. The ego has a tooless system that doesn't really work and is sometimes hard to loosen and you end up using Tools anyway and it feels flimsy. For my personal preference the milwaukeed body is a little long for me because I'm smaller but something I can overlook because the overall quality is much better compared to others

We bought this saw to do clearing of dead, dying and hazard trees to do some "Firesmart" work on our property. We have fallen and bucked up trees as big as 16 " that include Fir, Cedar and Arbutus. We chose the fuel specifically for the Milwaukee reputation, the brushless technology and the whopper batteries. What was also important was the non-spark, non fossil fuel operation for a greener safer way to deal with the necessary wood cutting. All of this has panned out, the real joy however is the relatively quiet operation and no fuel smell or handling required. Love my new saw.

Amazing. Cut through 8 to 12 inch softwood like butter, can't wait to try it out on hardwood. I had read a review that said that by opening the bar oil reserve cap to release pressure after use, oil leakage while stored would be minimal. I tried it and so far so good, no leaking if stored flat. It will leak however if you hang the saw by the provided hole on the bottom of the saw. I have only used it a few times to clean up a couple of pines and cedar blowdowns on my property, battery never went below four lights, very happy so far, preforms as well as my gas powered Husqvarna.

Powerful Chainsaw, and So Easy to Use

I am a woman and I work in our timber. I just cannot start gas-powered chainsaws. I used a 12" battery-operated saw (a different brand) and it just didn't have the power to cut much over 4" across. Then I purchased the M18 Fuel 16" Chainsaw Kit. Wow -- what a difference, and it wasn't just because it has a larger blade. This Milwaukee has tremendous power to cut about anything that I have tackled -- up to 8" across. Now I can cut down invasive species in our timber that have gotten away from us, and I can easily cut up firewood from downed trees. The battery lasts a long time too, and I can use smaller batteries in the saw from my other Milwaukee power tools. I highly recommend this saw to everyone.

I agree with Big Rock, in that the Oiler does put out the oil. If you run this saw for even 5 seconds, it will drip a bit for a minute. Maybe about 3/4 a teaspoon. But after that it doesn’t leak a drop. Not a big deal to me. Better than to little oil. As for performance, I made 56 cuts through green hardwoods. Everything from 1 inch limbs, to 14 inch logs, over the course of 5 hours. And still had half of the battery left. When cutting, the motor never bogged down, and it ate everything I gave it. Even Beach wood was no problem. I would guess that a 14 inch diameter tree could be felled, and bucked for the splitter with one battery. I heat with wood, and I feel this saw will replace my Stihl 171 no problem.

I'm a loyal fan and user of M18 tools for carpentry and woodworking. I was in the market for a chain saw to clear part of my property and with skepticism, researched battery operated chain saws. Trusting the Milwaukee brand, I bought one. I was completely surprised with it's power, ease of use and battery length. Adjusting the chain was simple and I'm able to cut, non-stop, 3"-12" diameter branches and trunks for a couple of hours without needing a recharge. The product description from Milwaukee does not exaggerate the outstanding performance of this excellent chainsaw.
