Best Impact Diver

This tool is amazing! It's lightweight, compact, and delivers more than enough performance. I've used this for various amount of projects ranging from hanging shelves, to building chicken coops and remodeling a house. It delivers more than enough torque and hasn't given me any problems. The try LED design makes it very impressive because it illuminates the workspace. There's no weird shadows because it has three leds. Would definitely recommend this to a friend or beginning carpenter. 10 out of 10 for sure.

I wish this was better built and lasted longer

Great impact until it started getting hot and after only 4 months of light use stopped working. The anvil is seized and only the hammer mechanism is working. Moving it from forward to reverse trying to free it up only caused the impact bit to get stuck and fail after trying to remove the bit. Sadly this design is flawed as my coworkers have had the same issue. The anvil is galling up on the bearing material inside and seizing inside the gear case. I love this impact and would recommend it but it’s got major flaws with the materials used and its design. If it was used hard and put away wet every day I don’t think I would’ve been upset about it lasting 4 months but it’s only been used a handful of times since I bought it using my older m18 impact that’s lasted 3 years of hard use.

I recently purchased the m18 1/4 impact. I tried to try another brand that i wont mention, but wasnt satisfied with my purchase. I tried to save money, but ended up going back to milwaukee. The new impact is hands down the best on the market. I never should have tried another brand. Milwaukee makes the best tools hands down. Very powerful, lightweight, and durable, and I dont need to mention the reputation. This thing is worth the money. I will never jump brands again. Definitely worth the cost.

Great impact

Powerful and compact, works like a dream.
I like the choice of three speeds, although I don’t typically have need of the self tapping setting. Setting 3 will snap screws if you’re not careful, but it’s wonderful for driving larger fasteners. Setting 1 was nice on a project I did recently for driving smaller cabinet hinge screws.
My only gripe is that the part of the casing that rests on top of my thumb gets a little uncomfortable after consistent use. Its not a deal breaker though.

This is everything you need in a "Power Tool" assortment. I knew I wasn't making a mistake acquiring this lot of cordless tools. Milwaukee tools keep on working long after the others have run out of juice and life. My experience is that Milwaukee tools are a lifetime purchase. I have corded tools that are more than 40 years old and still run like a boss. The cordless tools are no less reliable and carry a charge that beats all of its competitors. M18 FUEL is a worthy investment!

I have loved Milwaukee for several years now but what made me continue buying more was when my packout rolling toolbox wheels went bad I contacted Milwaukee trying to find a replacement set and Milwaukee had the best customer service I have ever experienced completely took care of me so I am now a Milwaukee man for life. I have several different types of their tools nail guns, blower, weed eater drills, lights, grinder, etc. and have yet to experience an issue with any of them.

This driver has all the power you could want, and the 3 light setup is superb in dark areas. Although, after using professionally for about 5 months, the bit sometimes will not lock into place and has a tendency to fall out (not great atop tall scaffolding, or ladder situations). The internals did make some funny noises at one point, but that has long since passed. Overall, great driver so far but there is some concern as to longevity compared to earlier models.

Pact for the price works very well and has plenty of power, only issue I can say I’ve noticed in my two weeks of using it every day is a weird issue with the trigger when using the self tapping mode. Can’t quite figure out what makes it happen but it seems to bog down a lot the second the screw starts to drill into metal, you have to let off the trigger and start again which usually seems to fix the issue. Overall a solid tool and would recommend.

Great diver. I own all the prior models, but now my favorite. Shorter and faster than the Surge model. Get the M18 FUEL GEN-4 Impact Driver Rubber Protective Boot. It is great protection and keeps it from sliding off surfaces. I also recomend the Milwaukee M18/M12 FUEL GEN-4 Bit Holder. I leave fewer loose bits lying around jobsites, very handy. I do not like the switch locarion. I am constantly changing it with my pinky. Needs a new location.

I made the switch over to Milwaukee after smoking the other brands impact. I’m glad I did, the M18 Fuel line has incredible power along with the ability to last for what seams like forever. I tried a buddy’s impact and liked it so I got the whole kit. By far my favorite impact on the market, every tool in this kit is top notch. After having the set for over a week I’m impressed and I will be going to get the multi tool to go with this set. Well Done

I used to be a fan of Dewalt and Kobalt until I purchased the gen 4 Milwaukee 1/4 inch impact driver, now I don’t want it unless it’s Milwaukee!! It is by far the best impact driver I’ve ever owned. Best impact for 95% of my tasks

This is the best 1/4” impact I have used. This impact has PLENTY of power for the vast majority of tasks. I used it to break old bolts from a commercial treadmill that my other impact could not do. Weighting feels balanced in the hand. Grip has nice hand feel. Tri lights illuminate work area well. Makes for a quick flashlight in a pinch. Trigger has only a slight amount of play before activating. Otherwise when depressed feels pretty natural.

For years I've used 12 volt tools and I recently switched to 18 volt, getting first an M18 FUEL drill and now this M18 FUEL impact driver and they are both superb! Plenty of power and the battery run times are incredible! Very impressed with both of these tools!!!
Will continue to purchase more of these tools in the future. In fact you should send me the M18 FUEL 7 1/4" circular saw and I'll test it out for you gor free!😁 Great tool!

Locked up!

Already had 2 older model Milwaukee impacts, 1 of those was getting worn out, so I decided to spend a little more money and get this new model. Purchased in April and it already seized up in July. The chuck doesn't turn and it just hammers. I install garage doors, run a lot of self drillers, I always run 2 impacts to try and keep them from getting too hot. Very disappointed for the money I spent, this one will not work now.

Generally love Milwaukee just had to return this after 2 days of use. Driving #14 self tappers the drill became to hot to touch. After a few hours the tool would only allow driving on 3rd speed while all other speeds would consistently cut out.
From seeing other reviews it might be only a problem with drilling/self drilling. I didn't use it for any wood work. The lights are nice and it is light weight, which is also nice.

This prudent has help me a lot over the 2 weeks of owning it. It help me install outlets and has help me at my main job as a landscaper by putting things together or taking apart. I can’t think of a reason to not like it I have zero complaints about it. My step dad before he pass away use the m12 a lot doing havoc and other things around the house he was also a jack of all trades and my knowledge of tools came from him.

I've been through 2 of these since Christmas. This tool isn't even in the same playing area as the gen-3. Not even in the same league. It gets really hot, really easy. I have burnt a "m18" on my hand before just by touching the metal on the face. My 2nd one just decided it wanted to impact, on nothing. Just holding the impact in your hand and pulling the trigger made it start impacting. Not happy with this tool at all.

Disappointed & Returning.

I am disappointed. This impact driver is too good for its own sake. I have been a carpenter contractor and have used an impactor of a different brand for many years. When it went bad I replaced it with this one in a combo kit. I am impressed with Milwaukee 18v products, but not this one. It Will Not Stay On The Screw That I Am Driving. One huge benefit to my old impactors is that the pressure required to drive a screw was minimal. The drill did all the work without my having to put much pressure on the back of it. With this one I can't get it to stay on my 1"-3" screws without a lot of pressure. I am stripping them all the time, even with good bits. I tried the slowest speed but the power is so diminished. Unfortunately I am going to return this impactor. Milwaukee, I have borrowed your stuff before and like it, but this one is too much to be useful.

I bought this to replace a first generation model when its reverse switch stopped working. I might have tried another brand, but of course I have a lot invested in Milwaukee batteries. That being said this new purchase performs well and I haven't had any issues thus far.
To Milwaukee tools: I think that for the money, you could at least include a single bit holder on the right side, my last driver came with one.

Awesome little screw impact

I’ve had several 18 impact drivers over the years and this is definitely by far the most useful. I break less anvils with the torque limiting feature, which is very useful. It’s small and compact easy to carry having owned this particular model in the past I was surprised that the screws loosened on the clip. I lost one Screws so decided to take it off. But I’ve noticed that all of them fall off eventually.

I really like this impact driver! I also own an older version that didn’t have the speed selection option, so that is a nice added touch. I use this one mainly for driving deck screws into wood. It’s nice to have 2 of them now to switch between when running these impact drivers for long periods of time in the hot NC summer, they tend to get hot after being in the direct sun. I absolutely love this purchase!

Doesn’t age well

After 1-2 year of use I started to notice gap between drill and battery. Which makes it stop randomly wheever im using it. Its majorly because the point where batteries and tool clips is plastic and over time after rubbing together . Tool and batteries become loose. So yeh its good in start but doesn’t age well.
If Milwaukee could put some type of thin metal piece there they clips that should solve it.

Just acquired my new toolset, but already am glad I have it. My old cordless tool was struggling with some fasteners; tried them with my new Milwaukee unit and it handled the load no problem. I also have used the new brushless circ saw. Fantastic.. I burned out my last circ saw from another brand, the Milwaukee unit did just fine. This is my first brushless set, even the sound it pretty cool.

Bought this after my Gen1 M12 finally quit after 8 years. So far this has exceeded my already high expectations. It took alittle bit of getting used to after being accustomed to the M12 platform but that is an adjustment on my part and not a reflection on the tool itself. Now that I've made the jump to the M18 platform I intend on replacing my other Gen1s in the near future.

Not the greatest impact

Really disappointed in this one. I’ve used the previous gen and can usually get 3-5 month out of them before needing to replace them. This one seized up less than a week after I purchased it. I’m a garage door installer in a wind code area and these impacts don’t seem to care for constant drilling I was able to get it working again but I’m expecting a complete failure soon

I have had sets from three other major manufacturers. This is by far the most powerful cordless set I have used. Tools feel extremely solid! Very happy with my purchase. Can’t wait to add a few more. The amount of tools available is amazing. I have to keep an eye out for promotions otherwise my wife may divorce me. I’ll be keeping an eye out for sales after the holidays!

Dissatisfied with took durability

I’m in the HVAC trade got these impact about 8 months ago. Recently I was working on a cooling tower removing about 100 3/8” bolts and suddenly my impact started feeling hot and seized up on me.
Being a technician I went ahead and took the unit apart and notice that the gear case frame and the hex anvil had welded together. Hope they can send me a new gear case.

Serial number sticker?

Purchased a few of these impacts from different authorized retailers at different times and I keep running into issues with the serial number sticker either coming off or bubbling underneath. I love the power and the compactness of it, but my gen 3's that are extremely beat up and used have no issues with those stickers even after all the abuse they have taken.

Smooth control, great power, nice and small

The rpm limiter makes the variable speed trigger very easy to control, and use it instead of hand-tightening sometimes due to my early stage carpal tunnel. Also has plenty of speed and power when set to full speed, and use it with drill driver bits more often than my actual drill itself, since this is lighter and has a shorter head to fit in smaller spaces.
