Recived electrical shocks and died after two uses.
The first time I used the vacuum I loved it. Second time it wouldn't started but after removing and replacing the battery it worked so didn't think anything of it. Third time I tried to use it, it wouldn't start at all. Found on the internet that if I use the battery in another Milwaukee tool then immediately use that same battery in the vacuum it might help. It did - the vacuum turned on but this time I was getting shocked intermittently during use. I could live with the battery workaround if I had to but I cannot live with receiving electrical shocks. I have several other Milwaukee tools and this is the only dud.

Vacuum shuts off after a half a minute of use
3 years ago
I love this little vacuum except for one frustrating issue that started occurring after about 6 months after I bought it. I use this vacuum very infrequently, usually it lives in my travel trailer so it doesn’t have a lot of use on it. After using the tool for about thirty seconds, it shuts off and won’t restart unless you wait a few minutes or remove and reattach the battery. The tool works great, when it works. I see by the other reviews that this is not an isolated problem. I would gladly purchase an upgraded vacuum if or when it becomes available, but untill then, I would not recommend purchasing this product.

Only able to turn it on twice!
I bought this vacuum in January 2019 to use in my travel trailer. I used it twice last summer and it turned on both times after repeatedly pulling the trigger. This summer it would not turn on no matter how many times I pulled the trigger.....I took it to an authorized Milwaukee repair depot on Sept 14 2020. I am still waiting to hear from them and its December 6 2020. Very disappointed with both the repair depot....but cut them slack because they tell me they are waiting for parts from Milwaukee tools. I am a big fan of Milwaukee tools....but this one is a dud or at least the one I purchased is a dud.

Wife loves it, except
Wife wanted a small handheld for quick household cleaning that was cordless. All my big tools are M18 so it was practical to use something with the same battery. She loves it, Except. The 1.25" extension tube won't stay together because of the great suction power at the floor. Also 1.25" tube does not match the 1.25" tube of any of our other vacuums, it is just a little bit larger. (as if one measures OD and one is ID at 1.25). This could mainly be fixed by making the extensions click, screw, or attach in some way to each other and the vacuum so they don't pull apart. Also if Milwaukee sold a full length extension as an accessory to use in addition to the 2 piece tubes that would be helpful.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Needs a version 2
I really want to love this vacuum more however, there needs to be an updated version of this vacuum. The button is in a bad place, every time you pick it up, you turn it on. Please put a trigger lock switch or top handle on it. The second thing that I really can’t stand is the seal at the bottom. There needs to be a better seal and another latch. I think the latch now is in a bad place anyway. It would be great to have attachment points for a strap or sling. It is loud, if the noise can be dampened that would be great but doesn’t bother me that much. I think if an update happens this WILL be the BEST compact vacuum on the market. It’s still very handy for the shop/vehicles and quick cleanups at home

Good suction but loud and only one power setting
3 years ago
This hand vac has good suction, but it is very loud and there is no suction/power adjustment (just on or off). I have the 2.5 gal pack-out vac which has two power settings and it is quieter. So, if Milwaukee could quiet this one down and give a couple of power settings, then that would help a lot. Other than that, it is an okay replacement to household hand vacs. I went with Milwaukee for household use because I'm tired of replacing all-in-one hand vacs that have short battery lives and need 8 hours to charge. Swapping out a battery is the way to go and more environmentally friendly.

Potentially great vacuum if Milwaukee FIXES IT
4 years ago
It's a little heavy, but the suction is excellent. It empties easily and comes with the attachments you need to get any job done. The problem is, it just stops working for no apparent reason. I sent back 3 of them under warranty. The first one lasted the longest, several months, but the last two lasted minutes each. This is very strange from such a reputable company. I see the similar reviews and Milwaukee's standard response for more info. What more do you need to know? It just stops. What I want to know is ARE YOU FIXING THE DESIGN FLAW or not? Please, email me.

Worked great until it kept shutting off!
I bought this a year and a half ago for my wife as a gift. She wanted something small and light to use around the house for touch ups. A week ago it started shutting off all by itself for no reason. Clean filter after each use. I have a very, very large inventory of Milwaukee tools, packouts, and accessories that I use daily. I have always taken great care and pride in my Milwaukee collection. But I'm also very surprised and somewhat disappointed with having a Milwaukee tool letting my wife and myself down for the first time. I was more surprised when I found multiple reviews online mentioning the same problem. What's with this vacuum Milwaukee? Why are so many people having problems with this? Please tell me there's a fix for this.

Absolutely love my m18 PACKOUT vacuum.
Well, I ordered the m18 packout vacuum. Not sure if this is referring to that one or not. But it is absolutely amazing. For several days, I was using it on power option 1, and was pleasantly pleased with the results. Then after realizing there was a higher power option, I can't express how happy I am. I could only be happier if it came with a 8-12ah battery! Lol I have 3 5ah batteries that I rotate in use, and can get about 20ish minutes of runtime. Definitely more than most application would require. It truly sucks. But in this case, that's great!

Nice Vacuum but keeps shutting off
I have this vacuum for almost a year now and use it once in awhile for cleaning my car and garage floor. It’s a good vacuum with nice strong suction but the only problem is it keeps shutting off after 30-60 sec of running it and have to wait for a fee seconds to be able to make it work again. Filter is clean and nothing in the canister but still it seems that it is tripping. It seems that it is a common problem based on the reviews i have red in here.
It is really frustrating using it sometimes. Not sure what to do with it, or how to warranty it.

Broken extension tube
The vacuum is ok with a 5.0A/hr or better battery. Anything less and it's not powerful enough. It's no where near the sucking power of a Dyson V7 even with the biggest baddest battery. The V7 might even be about the same price when factoring in the cost of the vacuum, battery, and charger. One of the extension tubes broke in a month and they aren't available on their own from the looks of it. I hope Milwaukee can help me out with that. I have a garage full of Milwaukee tools and they usually stand by their products. This probably isn't their most rippin tool but they had to hit a price point. I guess value engineering is basically the only place to got once you've firmly planted yourself in the market with a quality engineering based approach.

Used for about 45 minutes total, stopped working
4 years ago
I love Milwaukee tools as they hold up well and seem higher quality than most others, but this vacuum didn’t hit the mark. I used it for about 45 minutes total, it turned off and will not turn on again. I’ve tried multiple different batteries and they run all my other tools great, but the vacuum won’t turn on. I’m wondering if there is any easy fix or if it’s something to do with its construction. Any help would be great but this tool has so far been a huge disappointment because it worked great for the few minutes I was able to use it

Great vacuum, except...
I thought this was the handheld vacuum to end all handheld vacuums. Lightweight, easy to use, GREAT suction and of course, compatible with all my other 18v Milwaukee tools....BUT...after about eight months of glorious no-complaints use, the dang thing inexplicably shuts itself off after about 30 seconds of use now. I cleaned the machine, changed the filter, ensured the new battery was charged, tried different batteries, all to no avail. I'm at a loss. This thing would get a 5-star review if I knew what was wrong with it.

On my 3rd one now, its got issues
I use this vac almost daily for small job site clean up. Drywall dust use, wood shaving and use it to suck up dust on my M12 fuel multi tool cutting door jambs. I’m on my 3rd one and the latest is now on its way out. It repeatingly shuts off after minute or so and the brushes are close to going. I did take it in to the service depot. They told me to run it till it dies. I like the compactness of the unit. The bin emptying is kind of a pain. Not sure If I’ll go to number 4 or move to something else.

Second time was a charm
First one died after 2 uses. Exchanged it for another, that one stuck. Have been using it since, over 5 years! I use it almost exclusively for cleanup after drilling concrete for termite work. It's light and has plenty of power for how small it is. Any smaller and the capacity would be useless. Far better than having to use a dustpan or having a full size shopvac in my truck for only this. I've also used it for auto detailing. 5 years of heavy commercial usage and still going strong..

I’ve owned this vacuum for about a year. I use it to clean out my transit van and around the house. Very light duty. I only use Milwaukee batteries and have multiple M18 products all in daily use. This vacuum has always shut off intermittently it usually fires right back up after a few seconds (5-10seconds). But recently it won’t fire back up for over a minute and sometimes just quits for the day. Batteries are all fully charged and range from 1.5amp hour to 12 amp hour. Very frustrating

After 6 months no issues, keeps shutting off.
I bought the M18 approximately six months ago. Each use there were no issues. Today, 2/15/2021, with a fully charged battery, I was vacuuming out my car. Within 10 minutes the vacuum shut down. Surprised and thinking I had drained the battery, I took it in the house and placed it on the charging apparatus and plugged it in. Surprisingly, it was still fully charged. I took it back out to the car and tried again. The M18 would not run. I'll try again after I finish typing this review.

I work for an electrical supply house and we carry Milwaukee. My wife needed a little vacuum to get up the tumble weeds of dog hair daily. This vacuum has plenty of sucking power but will shut off intermittently. Battery is fully charged, even swapped with other m18 batteries as I have a collection of Milwaukee tools. However this one is not on par with the drills/impacts/angle grinders ect.

Great vacuum when it worked

Bought the 0882-20 Compact Vacuum in December. It worked great and really liked how it vacuumed and its' convenience. Have had it 4 months and now it is dead. It started to intermittently cut out about 2 weeks ago and now it is completely dead. Cleaned battery contact points as stated in manual and have tried several of my fully charged M18 batteries to no avail. Do not buy. I have my receipt and will try to get warranty service but appears there are only 3 in Wisconsin.

I am an A/V technician. I used this vacuum to clean up dust from hanging tvs and cutting in speakers. Occasionally, I used it around the house. As you will read from other reviews this vacuum cuts off shortly after turning on and takes longer and longer to be ready again.

Not Universally Engineered
Fantastic suction and versatility. If only the engineers were allowed to take into consideration vacuum attachments of similar diameter. I have a wider floor accessory from my shop vac that would compliment this vac, but it just barely doesn’t fit good enough. Definitely built for a DIY shop application, floor accessory still needs a rethink. And the flex hose; why? It’s not even long enough. All in all a great hand vac, falls slightly short in the attachments offered.

there is no brush attachment; the one from my shop vac fits, but only with the extension wand. I tried to make a longer wand from a 1 1/4" shop vac, but it performs poorly. It works best without attachments, or the short flexible hose and attachment. Therefore you spend a lot of time crouched over. It serves the purpose though. I didn't think it did an outstanding job on the vehicle, just ok. Kind of disappointed. Also it is loud, so I use hearing protection.

This is not Milwaukee quality at all. I bought this vacuum because of its versatility and it performed marginally well until you attach the 2 extensions and the floor attachment. Once these are all attached it does not suck very good at all.
This actually not the reason for the 1 star, if this were the only problem with this vacuum I'd give it a 3, it actually quit after 3 months all together. Pull the trigger and nothing at all. Useless, completely useless.

Great Idea, Not Versatile
I purchased one of these after seeing it on a project. We were fitting out a house and it was great for keeping the job clean. I tried to keep it in my van for a few weeks pulling it out to clean up after drilling holes and things like that on projects. I even used it for vacuuming concrete dust while drilling, the lock on feature was a good move. Eventually the trigger started malfunctioning. And then i lost this stupid gasket for the filter, thinking it must be the kind of thing that comes with a new filter i purchased more filters to find out it was not included and i will need to track this part down now. So it has been sitting unused for a few months now. Once i get it back running ill try to use it around the house. But this tool i would not buy again. But it was sweet that one time on a specific job that just about done.

It’s great for what it’s designed for
I’ve been using this vac for 2 years. It’s great for doing what it’s designed to do. I use it on job sites all the time. Primarily for a little drywall dust, a little sawdust, and drill shavings. At times I wish it were bigger or had a bigger filter but that’s because I’m using it beyond its design.
I do have a couple suggestions however. As people have already said, the trigger is in a bad place for carrying. Also, the lock is almost unusable with one hand. Holding the trigger and flipping the switch with the same hand is very difficult. Last suggestion is the foam gasket under the filter should be permanently attached or colored bright orange or yellow. Sometimes it stays in place. Sometimes it sticks to the filter. It’s not obvious. I’ve found it in the trash a couple times after cleaning the filter in the site garbage.

Bought this for primarily vacuuming the cars but it’s been a huge hit with the family at the cottage! Now everyone wants to vacuum. It sucks much better than our Dyson and battery life is much better than expected. Works great for the cars as I can use it hand held or set it down and just use the hose and attachments. Very well built and designed. Easy to clean the filter but despite it being filling up....it still sucks!! Too bad others have had issues...

Great vacuum like everyone says. I've had it a few years, but like people say after having it a while it will just cut out when on vacuuming. It is very frustrating. Everything is well cleaned and maintained on the unit always. New filters, cleaned out, new batteries used. I liked it at first. I received it as a gift for Christmas so I have no receipts for it. I do not think I would buy this again. Milwaukee, is there a way you can fix this!?

A nice vacuum but shuts off intermittently
5 years ago
I was excited to get this vacuum because I like the Milwaukee brand. It actually does a great job vacuuming BUT it annoyingly shuts off intermittently. At first I figured it was the filter plugged, but after cleaning and/or replacing the filter, that doesn't seem to be the issue. I received this as a Christmas gift and have only used it a handful of times. Unfortunately, you can't depend on this to stay working longer than just a minute or two.
