Good tool overall, draws quite a lot of power and so multiple batteries are required for work of any duration. I also found that speed control was inconsistent after prolonged use. For a certain speed setting it wouldn’t spin up to full speed. After a time sitting it came up to speed again. Maybe due to thermal overload on the battery, but I would rather the device cut out then have it slow down. A slowing device makes me think it’s broken.

Bought it to buff off small gaskets like for water pumps... It takes both batteries to do such a small job , it eats batteries up.. you sell it with the smallest batteries knowing this.. I can go grab another mechanics 6ahr battery and the tool accually works good.... Feel if you sell something as a kit with 2 batteries the tool should work longer than 5 mins without draining both batteries before a gasket is buffed off no bigger than 12" x 12"

Works great but not as good as air power

This tool is absolutely convenient and gets the job done. However its not as powerful as air. So you need to keep that in mind. When using air and you stall tool you just lighten pressure and it goes back to work with the Milwaukee when you stall the tool it shuts of and you have to release trigger and then re start and that can get frustrating. However as I said it does ok once you learn what it can handle and stay within its operating torque.

I've been a journeyman patternmaker for 25 years and use pneumatic die grinders everyday. The M12 adds a level of convenience that is unmatched. I love the control of having 4 speed settings and the consistent speed regardless of load. It has decent runtime with a 5.0 battery. I wish it worked better with a 3" disc but I can live with the 2" limitation. Being HEAVILY invested into both the M12 and M18 platforms this grinder is a great addition.

Been waiting for a cordless die grinder for years!

I use right angle die grinders often for automotive work. Cleaning up gasket surfaces, hub faces, crusty wheel beads, and grinding down small welds. The multiple speed settings and cordless (air hose-less) is phenomenal. It has the same amount of power or more than my pneumatic versions too. I'm really happy with it. It's a little hard on the batteries if you're grinding down larger welds and whatnot, but it's really reasonable still imo.

Purchased to use with small (1" to 2" wire cups) for light surface cleaning of carbon and stainless steels. 2" are completely out of the question, tool won't run more than 30 seconds or so with light force. 1" work better but still very disappointing. I bought the first one online and figured it could be a bad tool so I went to a local small Milwaukee dealer and bought a second one. It did the exact same thing. They let me return the new one and explained that these 12 volt tools just don't take much force like the larger tools. So ultimately, this is just the way it works. Still not really sure what these are actually good for. I can use it, but in short spurts and it takes a lot longer than it should for what I feel like is very light surface cleaning. I'm not even removing base metal. For what these things cost I expected a lot more power.

I purchased this to replace my air powered tool. thee air powered tool requires starting and waiting for it to build pressure and running an air line. This is so much faster. This has become one of my go to tools. No cords or air lines or air compressors mean super fast and I take it places the others can't go. I don't know how I ever lived with out one!!! From die grinding to various types of prep disks this thing just keeps surprising me.

This little die grinder punches above its class, with its compact size and ergonomic design. I was a big user of other brand’s (yellow and blue), but in the last few years I’ve been replacing them with Milwaukee M12 and M18. Since I started using Milwaukee l don’t look at any other brand’s and enjoy the durability and comfort of their products. If you are looking for a quality product try the Milwaukee brand and you won’t be disappointed.

Handy tool with some minor issues

I am an auto mechanic and I use this tool mainly to clean wheel rims and hubs on the vehicle. I love the fact that I don't need an air hose and the tool itself is light weight. However, I don't think it is more powerful than my Cornwell air die grinders, but it gets the job done. Keep in mind that this tool has a thermal shutdown feature that shuts off the tool when it detects overheating, which is only a minor annoyance. So that explains why the tool shuts off during use, but it starts up again relatively quickly, so no biggie. I find that as long as you don't run the tool at full speed, you can avoid it shutting off on you all the time. Overall, it's not going to replace my air powered grinders, but it's a great supplement to them. I do suggest getting the high capacity 6 amp hour batteries rather than the compact ones to maximize runtime.

Too expensive for lack of quality

I'm giving this a 2 star review and not a 1 star only for the fact that it can be convenient in a pinch as opposed to a pneumatic unit. First thing is the lack of storage/holder for the 2 wrenches needed to change bits. Second is the drain that it has on batteries. It consumes batteries super quickly. Third would be the unit stalling out without applying any undue strain on it. This then forces user to let off and reset the trigger. Fourth is the lack of smaller jawed collets. (Nevermind the fact that a 1/4" bit shaft is a very tight fit, which ends up being near impossible to remove the collet after it's been tightened on). Lastly would be the lack of quality for the price point. Quality that of which we loyal Milwaukee supporters are used to receiving. I sincerely hope this is not a trend that Milwaukee has decided to implement for future tooling.

My First Die Grinder

This is my first experience with a die grinder, but I’m already very excited about the use of this tool. I got some of the accessory pads in various coarseness and I can already see how useful this is going to be over time. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the trigger lock. The design of this lock is fine, I’ve found it a bit clunky to use compared to other tools I have with similar locks. That could have been done better.

Same issue as the others

I am a professional diesel tech who works on marine engines a lot and was beyond excited about this tool. No more air hoses and blowing watery air all over due to the boats poor air compressor system. ALL my professional and home electric tool are all Milwaukee because your fuel line is second to none! With that being said my first tool would run for a minute or so and then just stop. Release the trigger and repeat the process. Tried every setting, multiple attachments and every M12 battery I own (which is a lot) and no better results. Returned it and got the second one, same thing right out of the box! I will have to return this one too. I will admit this is the FIRST ever issue I have had with any of my Milwaukee products. Hopefully it is a bad batch and I can get a working one in the future. I would still recommend Milwaukee tools over all else!!!

Good tool; eats batteries

I bought this to help grind off paint/coatings for welding as well as clean up engine surfaces. It has a decent amount of power, with a 2” wheel at least. It will run a 3” but it struggles at times. I use the HO 2.5ah battery and it eats through it after about 10 mins of on/off use. This does the job usually but sometimes I wish it was just a little more efficient. I use a bigger battery if I plan to run it longer than a few minutes.

If your bogging this tool down get out the grinder or variable speed grinder!! I was very nervous about this purchase. I was certain it wasn't going to have the necessary power, especially after reading through the comments. However, the people saying this tool keeps shutting off have never used a right angle grinder. Even a high end right angle grinder with unlimited air supply will bog down or stop when to much pressure is applied.

So much better than air die grinders! No more waiting for the air compressor to keep up. Just keep some batteries nearby. I like the multi speed features, and the compactness of the tool. Its impressive that they fit all of the electronics in a small package. It was well worth the money. I have herd that overheating / stalling can be an issue. Just keep in mind what this tool is and what you are using it for and it wont let you down.

I’ve always had the old trusty air powered die grinder that I used occasionally because I was limited by an air hose. Picked up one of these on a whim because it’s Milwaukee, so obviously I needed it. I can honestly say I use it at least 3 times a week now because it’s so handy, portable, and powerful. It stays in my “go bag” in my work truck and I haven’t pulled out the old pneumatic one since I got this one. Definitely a must have.

I work with friends on many GM 60's and 70's vehicles. I have own and have used many air tools including 1/4" Right Angle Die Grinders. When this Milwaukee model became available I had to try it. I really like it!! It is a bit bulkier than the air tool model but holds it own in the power ranges. The best feature of this tool is the speed control. It's also nice that I don't have to drag an air hose around the project with me.

I basically use this for lighter duty applications like cleaning, sanding, and light cutting. In that aspect it works great. No cords or hoses getting in the way and the speed setting feature is a nice addition. Though it lacks the power of an air unit on larger jobs, it is only 12v, but will still complete the job given more of a steady pace so as to not bog down the tool. Excellent for jobs like old gasket removal or surface prep.

I have purchased multiple Milwaukee cordless tools, all which have lived up to the name and expectation for the brand. Unfortunately, the M12 Right Angle Die Grinder is the first to miss the mark. The unit will run for 30-45 seconds and cut out. Check battery, all good. Change battery, and same situation. I was hoping for a pneumatic replacement with greater portability, like advertised, but unfortunately this does not do it.

I'm the only one in a large diesel repair to have one of these and other techs are checking it out all the time. I've used it to clean up surfaces in hard to get areas, used with a cutting wheel for jobs outside in the lot (try do that with a 500ft air hose), used for no reason at all other than it is so handy. My only negative is that using it so much I am going through 3.0CP's pretty fast, but I have 4 of them, so no worries.

This is the first Milwaukee tool I’m actually disappointed in of the dozens I own. Got it and was using an pad to clean a gasket surface. After a couple min the unit would power out with next to no pressure. Same thing when it comes to using a cutting wheel on it. Any pressure and it stalls. Took it to a service centre and even had the entire thing replaced. New unit has the same issue. Any amount of load and it quits.

Versatile Handy Tool!

So this is the handiest tool I've own as a mechanic, but limited to everyone 2 inch. No 3-4 inch cutting discs. I rated it 3 star cause I've had to send it in twice for shutting down after using non stop on a big project. I wish it had the capabilities of a high end prenumatic die grinder. No disc size limits and no run time issues. Since having the new replacement they sent I haven't had an issue. Still a great tool to have.

I’m an automotive technician, I use a die grinder every day. Mostly for gasket removal on sealing surfaces and rust on wheel hubs. This die grinder has more power than all my pneumatic die grinders. It’s also significantly quieter. The only downside is it goes through the battery pretty fast. But I always have a couple batteries charged and ready to go so no problem. Yet another product that Milwaukee completely out-performs!

Honestly, those were my first thoughts when I pulled the trigger on this tool. I love that it is so easy to handle and the multiple speed function. It feels way different than an air tool, almost like it has a positive drive mechanism, not simply running on momentum. I tried the M18 version, but it was unmanageable and featured only one speed. This tool is perfect, compact, powerful, and cordless/hoseless. Well done, MT!

Perfect grinder

I was looking to replace all of my air tools for electric, I was a little iffy on how they would compare. However, after using this for grinder, I was convinced. This thing spins just as fast if not faster than my air die grinder! It is perfect for the job and I would definitely recommend this to anyone. I have used this with a wire brush and roll-n-lock attachments and it performed perfectly! Much better than expected!

I love the idea I have both 90* and straight versions but........ they both use different collets!!!!!!! Meaning my 90* has only just enough power to be useful the collet from the 90* physically does not fit in the straight version(straight version is significantly under powered) and to further insult the user you need different spanners for each model how frickin stupid is that it’s literally the dumbest decision they could’ve made. They also provide zero information on the type of collet that the machine uses so I’m trying to find other collets for it so I can use different wire wheels with 6mm shank etc etc and can’t seem to find them so they’ve limited the use of the tool. With an air tool you can get collets in 3mm 6mm 1/4” to fit the same tool.. this one doesn’t seem so it’s like two different teams developed these tools and didn’t communicate to each other.

Have been researching for a while and made the purchase. Couldn’t be happier with performance and what this die grinder can do. Battery power allows job to be performed quicker than pneumatic and plug in electric. No having to find air hoses and start compressor, no having to find extension cords and a plug. I have plenty of m12 batteries which helps, but I would highly recommend to anyone who is contemplating buying.

I haven’t been able to fully test the die grinder yet, it came with a 2.0 m12 and I need to get a 6.0 amp. It cuts out after 10 minutes of use.The ergonomics on this tool is 4/5. it is a little bulky but is still nice having it be cordless. Good for quick and hard to reach spots. It does not compare to a air powered die grinder but it could if it was a m18. I would rate this tool a 3/5 being used with the 2.0 amp m12.

I am not impressed with my die grinder at this time. Even very light cutting that my small air unit does with ease I find this M12 constantly stalling and tripping forcing me to release the trigger, wait a few seconds and try again. I am hoping it is a defective unit and not a common problem with the tool. Everything else I own of Milwaukee (roughly 17 different tools) is fantastic so hopefully it's just a bad one.
