The most versatile tool

The most handy tool. The attachments for die grinders to accept buffing pads, sand papers, scotch brite and wire wheels make this tool one of the most versatile tools you can own, plus the actual die grinder and cut off wheel uses! Yes, you can use a drill for the majority of these, but this tool is lighter, more compact, and spins faster. Also with drill it will get hot spinning at max RPM for extended durations. This is the case of the right tool for the job, and it’s so worth it! Plus, you get adapters for drill bits! But again, right tool for the job.

I’m just a hobby mechanic and I am a big Milwaukee fan. I have been trying to get everything in my new shop airless and when I seen this die grinder I just had to have it. So I finally bought the bare tool. I was using it to clean off welds and it would randomly just stop sometimes 30 seconds sometimes 10. I thought it might just be that I was using a small 2.0 battery so I got a 6.0 battery and it still did the same thing. I am disappointed in this Milwaukee tool which is a first for me, maybe it has its place but for me it’s not the best tool for the job

Light duty use only!

Bought this thinking it would replace my compressed air right angle grinder. I was wrong, when used with abrasive pad for gasket cleaning it instantly overheated. I tried 4 different smaller m12 batteries and 2 larger different m12 batteries. Still same results. I will keep it for arts and crafts and Light duty, not going in my professional tool box. I was really hoping it would work. I should have listened to the bad reviews. I have so many milwaukee products over 10, plus 8 packout boxes and even the backpack. Milwaukee let me down on this one.

Had Milwaukee a few years back and it was total garbage. Since their revamp I have heard nothing but good things about Milwaukee. I bought a 1/2” drill and it wasn’t to bad which led me to pick up the rivet gun and this 1/4” right angle die grinder. This grinder is total trash and reminds me of the old Milwaukee. It will run just fine with no load on it but within 5-10 seconds of being under load it will immediately cut out. I was using a wire brush on it. Thinking it would work with an actual carbide burr which this is marketed for gives me a good laugh

I am very disappointed in this tool like others

I have just started buying into the M12 system of tools. I have 7 tools now including this die grinder. Just like the other reviews, this tool cuts off after just a few minutes of use. Maybe 1 minute or so and it's hot. Once it gets hot it cuts off off for awhile and then release of the trigger and it will resume working when the trigger is applied. It then works for a few seconds only to cut off again. In just a few minutes the 2.0 battery is dead. The other tools I have run for a very long time on the 2.0 battery. I'm sure the larger flat end batteries would be better suited for this tool but I only have 1.5 and 2.0 batteries at the moment. I want this tool to be what it is advertised to be. I am probably going to return it though.

I bought this mostly to use for stripping old gasket material on the various vehicles/ equipment that I work on. The first time I used it I was not only able to strip the gasket material in no time flat but was also able to use it with a carbide bit to get out a broken bolt. Heck I have even used to to strip paint on some old metal cabinets! I will have to get the larger amp hour batteries as the 2 amp hour only lasts 10 minutes or so. But all around a fantastic product as always! I own sever Milwaukee tools and will continue to add to my collection!

I bought this to replace my air die grinder as I wanted to be able to resurface various metal parts without having to turn on the air compressor, lug out the hose, etc. It has been able to accomplish every task I needed it to, but it just doesn't have the rpm/force that my air die grinder does. A task that took me 1-2 minutes with this takes 3-4 but it saves me at least that dealing with the air compressor so it's a toss up. I guess I just set my expectations too high as most of my Milwaukee fuel gear has out performed my old air tools.

I not sure if the die grinder I bought has some programming issues or if it's actually suppose to stall out at the slightest resistance. I was trying to polish the stain from the stainless tig welds on 1" round polished tube with a ¼"×3" polishing wheel. The tool continually stalled out. It took a lot longer for me to complete this simple task and left me vert frustrated. This is not like any of the other Milwaukee tools that I have. Please let me know if this is normal or is there something very wrong with the die grinder that I have.

Bought this for our welding shop without reading reviews. Size is good. Runs a good while on a 3.0 battery, and nice that the flat base lets the grinder stand upright. Very handy to run without an air hose. Only problem is that it stops working after seconds. Other reviews say it’s when the motor is under too much load, but it doesn’t take much with a 2-3” cut off wheel. Might have to do with vibration if the cutting wheel isn’t perfectly centered. Not sure yet, but it’s super annoying that I can only use it for a few seconds at a time.

This would be a 5 star review save for the fact that the tool is a little bit bulkier that I expected. I purchased it online so I didn't have the opprtunity to hold it first. That said, the tool works great. Variable trigger operates smoothly and the 4 speed settings gelp to dial in your working maximum much easier than with the pnuematic equivilant. Has plently of power for a carbide burr, 3"roloc disc or a knotted wire wheel with the 3.0ah battery. Could only be improved if it was a bit smaller to get better access in tight spaces.

Used by an industrial mechanic. This die grinder is lightweight, compact and easy to manoeuvre in tight spots with its 90 degree head. Perfect for rust and scale removal, sanding and polishing bushings, paint removal from equipment, reaming holes out and anything else you would do with air or plug-in die grinders. Recommend using the roloc attachments for quick change overs. Only bit of criticism is that it’s easier than it should be to stall the motor out when using roloc discs, but with a little care it’s not often an inconvenience.

It get the job done like a die grinder should do the job. But it what hit me the most was the SOUND, or should I say the noise difference. It's so much quiet then an air tool. You only hear the sound of the abrasive doing his job instead of the tool screaming all over the place. The only cons I found was the length and thickness of the handle. It's a bit in the thick side like maybe all the tools in the m12 family but I think you get used to it. Since it's not only your index that do the trigger, the size of the handle is accentuate.

I brought this over the polisher as I was told it was suited better for my purpose of use as I use it to clean different services on engines, components and ect. But after using it and only applying a small amount of pressure all it does is cut out I then thought maybe a dud battery even though it was a brand new 6.0 AMH. Tried it with a different battery and no different all it does is cut out! Very frustrating as it is virtually useless for my use!! Wait until a better model comes out. I should of waited! Very disappointed!!!

I've always used air powered right angle die grinders, so i thought I would give the Milwaukee M12 a try. Needless to say, I love it! Its got tons of power with any M12 battery attached to it, its light weight and just as nimble as any air right angle die grinder. So far I have only used rollock disks with it, sanding and scotchbright pads. I did check the RPM's with my Snap-On RPM gun and the RPM's are really close to its stated output, only about 600 RPM's less than stated output. Well within an margin of error at 20k RPM.

Don’t like the safety

Bought this die grinder in place of a snapon 1/4 pneumatic one. This is the tool I use the most while doing metal fabrication and metal finish for off-road cars. It works great until the safety kicks in after the tool has been running for a few minutes. This makes the tool turn off instantly while even using just the 1 speed setting. Original thought it was the battery, so I bought the 6 amp batteries. Didn’t make a difference. Would hope there is some sort of recall that helps with this issue. The run time is not long enough.

This is a good tool but needs some work

I love this thing, it literally replaced my air compressor and cleans up my welded parts great. As mentioned in a previous review it "cuts out" that is the motor damage detection system and if you use it for a while it will wear in and get to a workable point. My only major complaint is if i tighten a tool in, it gets jammed in the arbor badly. I've had to take a 3 pound mallet to the grinder for 30 minutes to get the grinding disc out! please fix this, otherwise its an awesome tool! For now i just tighten it very very losely

It performs ok at best. Seems to stall way to often even with little or no pressure. It seems to have plenty of power and probably more than any air tool but with it constantly stalling the power is useless. Im wondering if the programming needs to be updated to resolve this issue. The battery doesn't last very long but that is to be expected with the power it has and doesn’t bother me. It seems to be very well made just like all the other milwaukee tools I own. It is also very comfortable in your hand and lightweight.

Best Cordless Die Grinder on the Market

I debated between four and five stars for this because it's not as light, compact, nor handy as an air die grinder, but it's also not a pneumatic die grinder, and doesn't require a tank or lines, so that comparison isn't entirely fair. My only gripes are that it's rather large and unwieldy (although not prohibitively so), and that the battery doesn't last long. It is nice and quiet, even compared to high-end pneumatic die-grinders, which is much appreciated. Overall, I don't regret the purchase and would buy it again.

I own a lot of Milwaukee Products, and when I heard about the M12 FUEL 1/4" Right Angle Die Grinder, I had to have one! I was impressed about using the M12 FUEL 1/4" Right Angle Die Grinder without having to connect it to a air compressor and use it anywhere. I did find I had some issues use M12 FUEL 1/4" Right Angle Die Grinder, when I press down on the part I was grinding too much, that it would cut out and stop spinning. Also the M12 FUEL 1/4" Right Angle Die grinder did not seem to be too warm, cut out anyhow.

As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, this has to be one of my most used tools. Pros: - CORDLESS!! - For it's head size it's pretty peppy - much quieter than air - Surprisingly somehow has more juice than the straight die grinder Cons - Chews through batteries - Not as much torque as a good snap-on air - The handle with a big Battery is a bit bulky That said, these things are pretty tough for the most part and the only reason I am buying a new one is that they don't hold up well to being run over...

I use it to clean gasket material from transmission, engine, hydraulic valve body’s & use it to grind metal if needed. I’m using it on the number 1 setting & I’ve noticed it goes thru the batteries very fast. I don’t use the full power of number one also. I have a inverter in service truck to try to keep ahead of batteries charging. If I had a big job with it, I think I’d go thru the 6 batteries & not be able to use it. I like the idea of I don’t have to use the air on the truck as much now when on job location

I am a mechanical field service technician and we use 1/4 grinders from hogging out motor feet with carbide bits, cleaning the surface up on a precision fit with 3M roloc, to flap and wire wheels. Not only is power typically inaccessible and air lines typically not close by we are limited to very challenging situations. This has provided a solution to that and it has held up so far. Does not bog down when at high speed which I was afraid of. The charge is on par for any other cordless high demand unit and with the larger batteries and a charger there is no issue. Weight is light, the tool holder is tight and does not slip. I can’t say enough great things to this product. We have needed a company to step up for years and Milwaukee has answered a lot of the needs we present.

Used with a 3" cutoff wheel attachment on 1/4" arbor and used with 3" grinding disk. Works good but you can't put much pressure onto what you're cutting or grinding on . Small enough to get into fairly tight spots . Downfall is you need to keep several batteries with you because they don't last very long . Also the motor seems to have a binding or kickback brake and it will just stop running if you're trying to put much force behind it . Still good tool, think it needed more r&d before putting it in stores

I’m truly sad at how bad this grinder is. There is nothing you can do to keep it from stopping. It will stop working even if you just let it free wheel. I have a ton of Milwaukee tools and recommend almost all of them to my peers. All but this one. I don’t get how I can have a 1” impact I use to take tires off of my semi, but they can’t get this little M12 grinder to work correctly. I should have heeded the warning of others. I hope a new version comes out soon because it is handy if it would stay working.

I’m a big truck diesel technician, at this point it takes a lot to impress me. Getting rid of airlines is a great way to do it though. Cordless tools have come a long way in 5 years and this is a great example of that. This grinder has the speed and power to do almost everything that my pneumatic equivalent can do! It’s very convenient to not have to run an airline to clean up one surface while replacing a part. The unit is very compact as well, it can fit into most spaces my mini pneumatic grinders can.

I would not buy this product again

I am a heavy equipment mechanic, and in my job I use a 3m pad a lot, and this grinder doesn't have the power to do my job efficiently. I watched the video's and thought it would have the power, but it doesn't. It wants to shut off a lot, so you have to baby it. I tried it with a 1" flap wheel, and had to get a air grinder to do the job. I have a lot of Milwaukee battery products, and am very happy with all of them, except for this right angle grinder. I have a M12 sander/ polisher, and converted it to a 3" wheel, and it has more power than this grinder. I bought two of them, and traded one in for a 1/2" high torque impact. With the Milwaukee name I thought it would be better than this. Even though this isn't what I thought it would be I will still by Milwaukee products in the future.

Fantastic tool for autobody/fabrication work.

I got this die grinder for auto body work and fabrication. It does a fantastic job getting into tight spots that a 4.5" angle grinder cant fit into, and can work well enough to do it quickly. it cant do everything but I wish I had gotten this when I started to do autobody work and now instead of a chorded grinder by my side when welding I can keep this and get things nice and clean quickly. The only drawback is that the motor can't take a heavy load. Especially with a wire wheel it tends to get overwhelmed quickly and needs a few moments to cool down. Can't expect too much torque from a small motor/battery combo but it can be annoying when getting into tight spots. The batteries seem to last for a while. I can go most of a day welding and using this for cleanup on a single battery.

This is one handy tool, I use it all the time. It has plenty of power and gets in tight spots. Battery life is very good with the 3ah XC batteries. Only downfalls I've noticed is the collet gets stuck pretty often, and I mean STUCK. I just oiled it so I hope that resolves it. I wish that Milwaukee would have engraved the rpm's next to the selector button, but I engraved that myself so it isn't such a big deal. But long story short, buy one! I cant wait for Milwaukee to put out an inline die grinder.

Best purchase I’ve made so far. I’m an auto tech and use it mostly for brake jobs. Got tired of dragging an air hose around everywhere I go. Love how natural and comfortable the safety switch feels compared to others I’ve used. Only downside I have is that it does use a good amount of battery. I pair it with the 2.5 HO and it’s usually at half or less after I’m done using. No big deal but don’t like how I have to change batteries if I have to use it on back to back jobs. Definitely recommend.

Nice little tool. Suggest buying bare tool and then buying at least the 5 ah battery. The small 3 ah and down just don’t last long. I use it mainly to cut off old bolts and to trim sheet metal with a 2.5 inch cut off wheel. You can’t push it or it shuts off due to the overload protection. It’s built well ,compact , fits good in my hand and I like the 4 speeds along with the built in battery charge indicator lights. Would definitely buy this tool again just know that it is only a 12 volt tool.
