Great Idea, I wish it worked

I run a shop and have over 50 different wireless milwaukee tools, I love them. But this one is almost unusable, it won't stay running. I have tried 6.0 batteries and running it in the air without a load and it still shuts off within seconds. I have 1 and my employees have 2 more and all 3 of them are impossible to use. I shared my complaints with my tool man and he is returning a large shipment of them, says everyone complains of the same issues. He even ordered a second shipment thinking the first might be defective and the second shipment was worse than the first. Don't buy! Wait for a second version that actually works.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I read the reviews were guys were complaining that the die grinder would cut out on them, I guess I should’ve listened to those reviews. Unpackaged it this morning, started using it on a small light project and it has repeatedly overheated and shuts the power off to the die grinder! I have a box full of dewalt tools which I’m very happy with and only bought into the M12 Fuel line simply (@ a total of $500) so I could get the die grinder. The tool is no good to me if it can’t complete the job without shutting down or overheating. Looks like I’ll be returning all of the tools and sticking with the Dewalt products.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Good for metal working. Idiot proof protection.

This die grinder is good overall, and is a good electric substitute for air powered grinders. It has similar amounts of torque too. Some people complain about it's lack of torque, but that's a necessary safety feature on die grinders. If die grinders have lots of torque, injuries are much more common. Leave the high torque needs to the full sized grinders, and let this little speed monster do it's thing while it'ss protecting the user with it's overload shutoff feature. If you push it too hard, it shuts off. That's a wonderful gut check, especially since these tools are designed for finesse, not gross hacking.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Battery power tool replacing an air tool

I bought it to replace my IR 1/4" right angle die grinder and didn't think it would have the same power as it but it surprised. I work out of a mobile service truck and my air grinder was limited to the size of my air storage tanks. The M12 fuel grinder has excellent lasting time right to the end of its battery life. I have used it for both grinding / cutting / 3M buffer pad and it has worked excellent in everything I've used it for so far. I will probably buy another one so I don't have to change the tool attachments out. The only thing I wish the tool had was a guard / shield when I put a cutting disc on it.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Great idea, but..

I own many milwaukee M12 fuel tools and love them all, this one I'm not so sure about. I've been using it for a month or so and it is very convenient and is nice for small, little duty work. My biggest complaint is that it does not handle a 3-in rawlic disc at all and it cuts out under any kind of load where an air tool would keep going. If you use it lightly and do not apply much pressure and stick to the 2-inch disc it does work pretty decent. It was a good thought, but they need to do a little fine tuning to this tool, most of Milwaukee's tools set the bar very high, I feel like this one doesn't measure up.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I will purchase more in the future!

This as good as it gets! I chose it because of other Milwaukee tools at work and home. The plan was if I am needed some where else in the shop. I usually would pull a air hose ( hopefully long enough), pneumatic right angle grinder and ear plugs. Now just grab the Milwaukee, some abrasives and am on my way! The choices of rpms are spot on. The unitized wheels for polishing are 3” with a max rpm 15000 (number 2). I tried out a 4” diameter cut off wheel that worked very well! I liked the over torque kick out to! I am using it all the time at my station instead of the pneumatic.7 and 1.0 hp fight angle grinders.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I have used this product for about a year and a half now as a heavy equipment and truck mechanic. This is the best replacement for an air grinder there is, thanks to Milwaukee I am nearly air free. I have most of the Fuel lineup and all are excellent. The biggest piece of advise i have for prospective buyers is do yourself a favor and buy AT LEAST the 3.0 battery. the tiny 2.0 batteries do not last more than about 5-10 minutes in this power hungry grinder. The 3.0 battery I get between 1 and 2 hours out of, it only goes up from there. I have put this thing through its paces and it never skips a beat!

Disappointed tool cuts out at first use.

I am a die-hard Milwaukee tool user I am very disappointed in this purchase, finally convinced my snap on guy that Milwaukee is the best and will out do snap on electric tools any day, so he starts stocking Milwaukee products on his truck. I purchased this die grinder from him and I'm speechless.. I have numerous Milwaukee products both corded and cordless with little to no problems. I own and operate an automotive repair facility dealing with both collision/restoration and mechanics. I also have a construction and remolding company. Again I will say I have numerous Milwaukee tools and this tool has no business having Milwaukee's name on it. It stops working with very little pressure.

I would NOT buy this product again.

Let me start off by saying I absolutely love Milwaukee tools. I have over 12 that I use every day at a dealership. However The M12 right angle did grinder was a complete miss by Milwaukee. The first problem is the handle. It’s way too big and bulky to be comfortable. but the main problem is the power. This thing is nowhere near as usable as an air operated one. If you apply just a little pressure the thing just shuts off, and will continue to do that until it eventually overheats 30 seconds later and then won’t work at all. This will end up being a useless too that sits in the back of my toolbox.

No, I do not recommend this product.

No regrets. I use it every day!

I am a professional mechanic and use this every day. It is impressively powerful and the battery life is great. I wish the head was a little smaller for getting into tight places but overall I love it. It doesn't have the power that air powered die grinders have but it's plenty to get the job done. I'm a diehard Dewalt guy and it was hard to bring myself to purchase a Milwaukee tool but I'm glad I did. I also have the 12 volt fuel 1/4 ratchet that gets used constantly. Dewalt has similar tools but I like the battery size on the Milwaukee better. I will be purchasing more tools in the 12V lineup!

I have wanted this tool for a while. I have air tools and an air equivalent of this tool. I am a mobile tech for a Cat PSD dealer. There are a lot of times when I can't get my service truck close enough to use air tools. This week alone I was starting up 4 3 meg 3516's and I use this tool several times. It worked so well that my co-worker borrowed it to clean some gasket surfaces, he liked it so well that he bought one for himself. It's so much easier than breaking out an air hose and all that too. One tip though. Use at least a 4ah battery. It will go through several 2ah batteries if not.

Great if it works

Bought two right angle grinders as well as two straight grinders. Out of the four grinders, three were defective and would stop spinning under any kind of load right out of the box. One has been warranty repaired and the other two are waiting to be sent out. The one that does work is great, but I don’t know if Milwaukee had a bad run of defective parts or what, but beware that your grinder may he dead on arrival, and with a 75% fail rate, I can’t chalk it up to just being a fluke. That said, the one that does work is great, and is a great substitute if you are working somewhere that you dont have access to air, but the batteries just can not keep up with air power for long sustained grinding.

I go back to the store I purchase and they change the tool for a new one cauz we thought it was defect... But the other new one did the same thing so its factory build like that. I dont understand cauz on the box its writte that the tool is 20% More Power Than Pneumatic but its not true at all...? I am a fan of Milwaukee tool I have everything and this kind of thing never happen in any of the tools I have. This product have a manufacturer's defect.

It's a great tool, I absolutely love it. I work as a general contractor (residential) and use it all the time, coping, polishing something, grinding, etc. I use it somehow most days. Also am in school for aircraft maintenance tech, will have lots of use in school and in field. The main annoyance I have is that the speed settings came with a sticker for RPMs, and that's long gone. I used a permanent marker to mark them and just go back over occasionally. Still annoying though. Especially when using say, a 3" cut off disk with a 20k max RPM. Speed 4 is 24.5k. That could be dangerous.

Good but has problems with continuous operation

I bought this tool to work on my sailboat. I use it to grind metal and fiberglass, and polish metal. When it works, it works well, but has a problem with stopping for no reason. I have this exact same issue with my rotary tool, but it's far worse with this one. I thought it was a battery overheat problem, but it turns out others are having the same issue. When it stops, all 4 LEDs start blinking. If I shut it off, it will turn back on again immediately, but you get stuck in a endless off-on cycle and it's annoying. I would rate this 5 stars if it worked without this problem.

First Milwaukee purchase

I’m a auto technician, I use this tool to clean the back of rims and the hub of vehicles for easy removal and fitment, on the bead seat of the rim when mounting tires for a good deal, obviously for gasket surfaces, de-burring, cleaning and prepping exhaust pipe for welding, very great tool have had it for 2 months now..because of this tool I went from having all snap on 14.4 line thinking I was good and never going to leave the brand to now having 5 deferent m12 tools 4 4.0ah battery’s and 4 2.0ah battery’s. Im going all out now on Milwaukee. I clean it everyday still looks new.

The die grinder is on the bulky side for the power in comparison to its traditional air counterparts, however it does take a fair bit of force to stall it out. I don’t recommend it for continuous cutting with a zip disc, it can do it...but you will drain a 4ah battery in a couple minutes. Works great with roloc disc attachments and burrs, haven't tried sanders on it yet but I have no doubt they will work well with it. A couple recommendations for future versions would be to angle the light away from the fingers, and when the tool stalls, have it pulse the motor at one second intervals to check if the load has been removed from the tool. If it has, then the tool can start again without resetting the trigger.

Charge every battery you've got

Haven't had a chance to use it much did a wood boiler door seal channel with a 2 inch radial wire brush. Tool either isn't powerful enough or would safety shut off in sections of the channel with weld seams that were slightly narrower then you need to release the trigger and restart the grinder this happened a lot and was awkward with the trigger safety. When it was running the tool did ok but chewed through batteries right quick and heated them up more than I'd like; it took two 4ah and two 2ah batteries to do the three sections of channel I could get to with the brush without removing the door so it's flat out hard on batteries. Not a bad tool I'm sure it'll be useful for some jobs just less than I thought

Works about as good as can be expected

This tool, like most of Milwaukee tools, I purchesed for the easy of use. Its expected to not be exactly like air tool due to constraints of only what a battery can do, BUT the batteries have became extremely so much better then past. Not to mention the ease of not dragging cords or hoses. I have purchased a Milwaukee tool that you can buy to replace every single air tool Ihave used over the years and could not have made a better decision to do so. They truly are great for the use, Iwent with 4 stars for price. 5 on quality but in these days, you only get what you pay for and most of which is quanity, not so much for quality, but, I am still very pleased with all my milwaukee brand purchases! I do recommend them.

Bigger but still better than air operated

I enjoy not getting out an air hose and listening to the compressor run continuously while grinding (air operated die grinders use a lot of air to maintain peak performance). The three speed ranges, smooth starting, and being able to control the speed more consistently than with my air powered grinders makes this a great tool. Battery powered tools are spoiling me more every time I use them, and I like it. One caution is the rubber inserts in the battery socket hold on to the battery a little too tight. For a few moments I believed the battery latches had not released. I was forced to walk the battery out very slowly. I am going to apply silicone grease to the inserts to see if that accelerates breaking in the rubber.

Very unfortunate entry into Milwaukee’s tool line

As others have stated just doesn’t make the cut compared to other Milwaukee tools, very disappointing. Have kept and used it for about a year and a half and really want to like it but it just doesn’t work well in any scenario. Works okay using small carbide burr but even then the flex in the head (I’m guessing to reduce vibration?) causes chatter and for it to overload or make a mess of the work, the only work around I’ve found for that is to grab from the head which is where the cooling ports are so then it hits thermal overload even quicker. Using anything larger is absolutely useless no matter what you do, 2” scotch pad? Nope overloads immediately with no pressure. 3” pad or disc? Won’t even spin it without errors.

Do not buy.

I recently purchased the M12 Right Angle Die Grinder and the M12 Straight Die Grinder and have the same issue with both of them. As many of the reviewers noted they stop working with little to no load on them over and over again. At first I thought it was dead battery and then I thought it was the sanding disc that I was using. Apparently the issue appears to be a manufacturing issue. I have a huge Milwaukee tool collection and this is the first time that I have been disappointed with one of their tools... Looking forward to version 2 if they can resolve the issues.

This is a handy little grinder

I have used this tool three times in the last week. Grinding, sanding, and buffing are easy to do with the right angle tool. I am impressed with the battery life and power. It's not for heavy cleaning/grinding use, but is great for small to medium jobs. The size is great for mobile use or a tool box. The chuck still requires 2 wrenches to insert the 1/4 shank bit, but it is well spaced and easy to load and tighten. Overall a handy, well designed tool. I would not recommend it for heavy grinding, but for parts cleaning and general uses this tool fills the void.

Perfect size and design for restoration projects

Purchased the right angle die grinder about a month and a half ago, and it’s taken everything I’ve thrown at it! Variable speed is a huge plus, and battery life with 6.0’s is pretty good. Only downsides are the safety lock on the paddle switch (which you can get use to) and how easily the mesh debris guards collect rust dust and cause it to overheat. If you’re doing any kind of big project or working with anything significantly rusted, a compressor with a blow nozzle or a can of canned air are a must to keep the air vents clean. Other than that it’s been great!

Nice tool

As a full-time mechanic in the transmission field, I use this tool mostly to cut cooler lines with a cut off wheel and a roloc disc to clean gasket material. With the tool being ateast twice the size of my pneumatic right angle die grinder, it has yet posed to be a problem. It works great, battery life a bit weak in my opinion. But is not an issue. The only thing I don't like about it is the how the motor shuts off under load to protect it self. And not heavy load either. I feel the motor could lug more before it shuts down. Overall I'm satisfied with the tool. The portability, not having to wait for the air compressor, or constao lubing of the tool because of moisture in the line make this tool favorable. And it's quiet =)

Yes, I recommend this product.

I bought both the right angle and straight grinders. I do a lot of automotive work in my spare time so I thought they'd come in handy. I was right. They pack a lot of power for their size. I wasn't expecting them to be as quick or powerful being only 12v. But I was pleasantly surprised. They still bog down pretty easy when grinding away dust. The chucks are confusing for some but really well thought out. They have a secondary lock that people don't always release so they think the bits get stuck. In reality they just haven't released the second lock. I do wish the chucks had a lock feature built into the tool so you'd only need 1 wrench. Over all I'm very happy with them both. The size is great the power is awesome!

So much better than the straight die grinder

I use this all the time for reaming out pipes after cutting them installing electrical components. Far superior to the straight die grinder. The ability to latch it on would be nice but a piece of velcro handles that problem. If you're deciding between the straight and the 90 buy the 90. I returned the first straight die grinder I purchased because the batteries were pain to get out of it and the connection between the battery holder and the motor was loose. The replacement was marginally better but the 90 has no issues whatsoever. I buy another 90-degree die grinder if this one got worn out or stolen. With the amount I use the Straight it's going to last forever. Only when the 90 can't get the job done do I pull that one out.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I own 5, yes 5 and 4 guys at work have 2 each. I was so excited when this came out and sooo disappointed in performance. Every single one cuts out whether its light use or moderate use (thats w 6.0 battery). The torque sensing device had to be bypassed or modified when this was being shown during exhibits. I have tried contacting Milwaukee as well as others i work with to no avail. I feel so screwed and upset and just wish they would own up to these issues and do something about it now and not upgrade it down the road and people who own these sit w theirs getting screwed. I own more Milwaukee tools than most and at work we have over 100 of their tools and they are awsome, but these right and straight die grinders are a JOKE!!!

Solid as it gets

Milwaukee drops another solid tool. Variable speed, no overheating continue power. It doesn’t get much better than this when it comes to a die grinder. Matter of fact, it doesn’t get better than this. If you need one, go ahead and cash out the extra money and grab this one. I had no idea I would use this as much as I have. Have been adding M12 tools to my garage and this was on my list but thought it would be more of a "nice to have". Well I have used it more than any of my tools since I got it. I have been working on some Jeep axles and have used this to get rust off in hard to reach areas. There are so many different discs you can get to use with this tool so the versatility is endless! A lot of power in a small angry package.

Yes, I recommend this product.
