Great all around tool

This is a handy tool! I originally bought since I owned another tool and figured give this one a try. It now rides the farm in my UTV, I have used to cut limbs, trim post, even to help process a deer. It zips right through anything I throw at it just as good as my full size Sawzall at half the size and weight. I ordered another for my son who is a tradesman and is very serious about his tools. He recommended me to Milwaukee tools and I have never been disappointed

I am the tool crib mgr. for the mechanical construction co. I work for. Wewould his product again and againMilwaukee tools because of the service and life we get out of them. I buy these M12 hackzall for our plumbers for the right spaces they get in and it's a better fit than a sawzall in these spots. It's also lighter than the sawzalls so less hand and arm fatigue in a 10 he day. As stated this isn't the first one of these we've purchased and won't be the last.

I like this saw. For a light duty Sawzall replacement. Pruning? Not so well. Maybe for a limb here. Later on a limb there. If you try to take multiple larger limbs in rapid succession? It gets hot. Like really HOT. It can wipe out the 5.0 battery it's commonly sold with in 15 to 20 minutes or less. And then the battery has to cool before it can be charged. So I swap to my 8.0 battery to continue on. But the tool is hot enough to intermittently shut off to cool or it almost burns your hand. Using this to cut off some PVC or copper pipe like you'd use a larger Sawzall for it's fine. Sometimes the smaller saw is more controllable and fits in a space. It's just a poor choice for doing some pruning. (something Milwaukee doesn't promote it as for). But many people do use it as such. I've reverted back to using my 8" Hatchet for.

powerful. Make sure you buy the right blade. Fast charging time. Able to cut tree branches up to 3 inches diameter. Lasted several hours. Had a chain saw, broke (chain came off). Has another traditional reciprocating saw, but requires two hands. I only need one hand with this tool so is more versatile and faster cutting (e.g. hold tool in one hand, hold other end of branch in another hand) . Easy to use, only uses these tools about once every 2 years.

I totally love the Hackzall. The hackzall fits in a unique category - it is in that list of tools that one wonders how did they ever lived without it. I purchased it for cutting copper pipe in a really tight space but I have used for numerous jobs since. The power in this little brother to my Sawzall is amazing and I have used it for several projects that previously I would use the Sawzall and it never ceases to please me. I would buy it again and again

Rust is a problem!

The place where you put the blade in gets rusty and its difficult to put in a new blade or change it, last one completely froze up after 3 years. The need to change the design, once crap like wet drywall or heavy dust gets in you can never get it out. Tried blowing it out with compressed air but does not always to the trick. Besides that its got the power! I will just return it the next time before it catches fire or when i notice its going to freeze up.

All in all it's a pretty good tool. Little bit more bulkier than the first version M12 hacksaw. Still reach for the first version pretty often just because it is a little bit smaller. Other than that this thing is got tons of power. Common problem I've had with both is that the battery sometimes slips off as on using the tool. If Milwaukee had maybe made something to kind of hold that battery in better or widen the hand grip this might not be an issue.

This saw pack some power for a 12V. The reason I buy it over the 18V is t. Size. As a service plumber I’m required to cut Through a lot of different materials, literally, and this little saw can fit in most any hole in a ceiling, wall or sub floor space with ease. The ergonomics are well designed and the saw is well balanced. It will cut through anything with the right blade, and make sure you get yourself a 6ah M12 for long cutting action. K bye.

I purchased this because of its size alone, i have two larger units, one with a 120v power and the second with 20v DC power but often needed something for close quarter work and this serves that purpose. Of course it doesn't have the power of the larger tools but so far, every place ive needed it... its worked perfectly. For that reason alone i'd recommend this.... and of course, with the Milwaukee name you know it has to be well made

Plenty of power to cut through most anything I've used it on metal PVC wood you name it extremely lightweight and compact fits essentially in places where hacksaw fit only you don't have to worry about bashing your knuckles or anything like that from having to stroke it I love this tool I would buy it again and again and I use it on numerous different applications everything from automotive to household plumbing and even trim work and drywall

Poor Battery Design

After many use in the field as a plumber I was very happy with using this hackzall tool, but the tool didn't turnout as good as I thought the battery comes loose shutting the hackzall off,
it would of been a great saw but the battery design sucks. I do not recommend this saw for field use will not last battery needs to be redesign otherwise a waste of money will wait to see if Milwaukee fix the M12 design is a shame I really liked this saw.

I bought this Hackzall a few weeks ago. So far it has been very reliable. Ive been using it to cut pallets down. Ive used only 4 amp hour batteries and 6 amp hour batteries and it lasts for a quite a while. Didnt think itd last as long as it does for being a 12v. In the hand it feels pretty comfortable. It is a tad bit heavy for what it is but you do get comfortable with it as time goes. Ill update if anything goes wrong with it over time.

Use this at home to trim tree branches and any other general cutting things that might not require an extension cord and a full sized reciprocating saw. I originally bought the Brushed version of this and it couldn't cut through a rotted tree branch so I traded it in for the Fuel version and this thing, paired with a blade made for tree pruning, is really quick to cut tree branches and pine boards. Definitely glad I upgraded to the Fuel

I got this kit with free 3/8 ratchet, but put it to 1st use cutting thru a locking lug nut on my wife's convertible 3 days later. Had to cut thru outer and then inner rings before I could hammer lug onto it. Next use was to cut a 3/8" DD steering shaft for a power steering conversion. Cut wasn't quick, but it did cut it. Believe this will also come in handy trimming walnut tree & very large hibiscus with longer tree trimming blade.

I have had this one handed recip saw for about a month now and I gotta say that it has surpassed my expectations so far. It is very easy to use and it fits into almost any tight space. The only thing I can knock about it is that it doesn't have a moveable shoe. This is just a nit pick since it only has a 7/8" stroke length but it would be nice to be able to use a bit more of the blade. All in all this is a great one handed recip saw.

I purchased this for cutting conduit in tight spaces. I usually use the M12 bandsaw. But lately have run into a few tight spaces and bigger conduit that the bandsaw would not fit. I've used it to cut 2in EMT to cutting 1/2in EMT in tight spaces to do some repairs. It's been the perfect tool when in a pinch. You can vary the blade size to allow for different cutting options. I also like the twist lock for the blade release.

This saw is a must have on the job!! Its smaller design allows for better handling in small spaces. We run and excavation businesses. The hackzall has been left in in water puddles and covered in mud numerous times, take it to the shop clean it up and let it air dry a few day's and it has NEVER failed us!! I would give it a 5 star if it came with a plastic case, I'm particular about tools bouncing around in the truck tool boxes

I have had the saw now for a month or so (although I actually bought the M18, not the M12, so not sure why it automatically assigned me to review the M12) . Happy with it so far. I've used it for numerous jobs, but the most use has been from my kids. They have been cutting a trail for their 90cc atv through the woods behind the house. Lots of little trees, even a few 4 or 5 inches diameter. Good investment overall so far.

Works well and as it should just wish the shoe was pivoting and had a bit more power. I know it’s the m12 platform but seems to lack some power for as much battery as it drains because even with the high capacity batteries it drains fairly quickly so make sure you have a lot of batteries on hand if you’re going to be working or cutting for more than a few minutes. The compact size is great just wish it wasn’t a battery eater

In converting from corded to cordless the hacksaw was definitely on the list of tools I wanted, but was more of a luxury. I was able to get way the the ripsaw for a minute. So the question was m18 or m12? When you think about it, I was able to get away with the saw-zall, so I wanted to drop down in size. M18 and m12 fuel hacksaw are exactly the same just set up for different batteries...so you get m18 power in a smaller and lighter package....which is what I was looking for. Once I thought it out, it was just a matter of waiting for the right deal. I got a great deal...4.0 kit with free 6.0 battery....can't beat it! somebody should make a blade, so you can take it in house and carve a turkey?The hacksaw is my 2nd tool in the m12 line-up.....I can't wait until the m12 fuel multi-tool comes out next month. I can just get just the tool I already have 3 batteries.

I like the Milwaukee M 12 series tools I would buy them again however they need to work on their battery pack they do not last very long. As long as you have three or four batteries you can continue to work. I did see however they’ve come out with a battery that is supposed to last longer however the cost is prohibitive maybe you can lower the price of the batteries that would help people to better afford to purchase them.

I bought this tool to cut down an exhaust system. since only part of the system was being replaced the cut needs to made at an exact spot so the replacement part fits correctly. that spot is up in between the sub frame and the rear suspension. there is only enough room to fit 1 fist width. this tool meet that size criteria and so well balanced that the cut was made with one hand in one pass. great tool super powerful too.

I’ve been working on a framing crew for the past few months and this saw has made the cut. It has out performed my expectations and all the competition. At first I was trying to force things and realized I was going about it all wrong. Just get your workpiece secure, the shoe tightly pressed up against your workpiece, and let it eat! I would definitely recommend a lanyard while working at heights and always a good blade.

This hackzall is great ! It has good battery life and good power. We use it for clearing out our bamboo, roots and trimming branches. Good size and ease of use. BUT the battery is not very easy to remove. Some one suggested some where on the web to put felt pads on the area you have to push, that did help somewhat. So as long as the battery lasts we are very happy and the yard is getting ready for the fire season.

We were looking for a compact reciprocating saw for my wife to use, mostly pruning small branches from trees and bushes. I already had Milwaukee 12v tools, batteries and chargers so this seemed like a nice fit for her. We both love it. Plenty powerful for smaller jobs and fits very comfortably in both our hands. She's used it in the yard and I've used it to cut some 1/2" steel pipe - works great for both of us.

I use this saw daily to cut panels out of fiberglass. Even when used for large cuts, it is efficient with battery life and cuts as quick as a short-stroke saw can. The short stroke is useful to me because I am often in a confined space or have components behind the fiberglass that I don't want to cut.
My only criticism is that there is no way to lock the saw on. It would be helpful for long or curving cuts.

The Fuel M12 is a nice saw but considerably bigger and heavier than the standard M12 Hackzall (unlike the Fuel M12 drill and driver which I also own). More cutting capacity but less portability. The standard M12 is a nice saw for light duty attic and crawl space work. Guess I'll need to keep both M12 saws, plus my corded sawzall. I'll need to use it more to determine the best uses for the Fuel M12 saw.

I'm 60, retired house framer, auto mechanic and home renovator extraordinare. I have a dozen saws. I use this one the most. It's powerful, it's versatile and it's just plane awesome. I keep it in my camper tool bag because I can do almost any kind of cutting job you can imagine. Metal, plywood, tree branches, fiberglass, you name it. I liked it so much I bought each of my sons one for Christmas last year.

I am and have been an installer of Audio Visual equipment in school systems, universities, restaurants, and corporations for the last 30 some years. Always looking for a more powerful yet compact battery operated tool. The new fuel reciprocating saw really fits the bill. Perfect for working up high. Cuts unistrut and threaded rod without hesitation. This new fuel model is a big step up from standard unit.

I use this tool to cut suspension bolts out. It works better than the sawzall because it has a shorter stroke which causes less impacts with subframe making it easier to cut. My only complaint would be lack of handle at the head of the tool to aid in leverage for high force applications. Possibly a screw in handle like in the driver would be sufficient when needed but removable for tight spaces.
