New standard for plumbers to cut waste pipe

I am a journeyman plumber of 21 years. Used to cut ABS and PVC with a hacksaw or pull saw. Tried the M12 hackzall previously and it didn’t quite have the oomph. The M12 FUEL hackzall does. Cuts pipe all day. Usually got a Diablo blade in it. Fits in my tray. Isn’t as heavy as the M18 one but has the same power. It really does. Using the 6.0 M12 battery on this always. Love this saw I’ll never not have one in my “waste” tool tray. Cuts wood and nails too. Essential for any plumber. If you tried the non fuel version and are hesitant, trust me this one is the one. Also like the fixed blade guard on the M12 better than the swivel blade guard on the M18, for cutting pipe anyway.

Very handy addition to my M12 Lineup!

This is a very handy tool. I dismissed it as I have an M18 One-Key Sawzall, but that was a mistake I corrected yesterday.
I needed a saw in a tight space, and bought this in the kit with a contractor bag, charger and a 4.0XC 12v battery. I already had charged M12 batteries on hand so I was able to use it immediately. I can quickly see how many times having a small reciprocating saw will come in handy.
I’ve been watching and reading reviews on this, and an M18 Fuel Hackzall is going to be my next purchase. Both of these will come in very handy trimming brush back on the farm come Spring!

Such a great saw

I have used this on trimming large tree limbs to breaking down pallets to cutting metal for welding projects as well as cutting bolts on vehicles also used it to cut a drag link on a 350 super duty that I needed to get off fast and the bolts were stuck so I cut the drag link to take pressure off the bolts this little saw is a beast and it will eat through the smaller batteries as well as blades but it's an amazing saw I also have the super sawzall and this little saw is amazing gets in a ton of places the big brother cant and I will be buying the m18 hackzall soon because I like the m12 so much

Powerfully Compact Saw

As a DIY'er, ran into this seized bolt on an automobile suspension and needed to cut it out. Found that a Milwaukee corded saw was too long to get into the space with the auto on jack stands. Chose this model after review of options, but was uncertain if it would be powerful enough. Can report that it was and was able to cut through bushing steel and grade 10 bolt about 1" in diameter. It took about one charge per cut with the 4A-hr battery, working in the restricted space on the floor. Was able to control the saw enough to avoid cutting anything but the bushing, and even without being able to engage the shoe using a 6" carbide blade. Very please with model; this tool made the job possible.

This is great for the DIY work I have been doing to my rental property. From cutting cabinets and counters apart to cutting metal. Absolutely love the power this thing has. I bought the tool with battery, bag and charger combo. Battery will last you through one good medium job then needs recharging. I wish it lasted longer but the power this tool puts out with an M12 Red Lithium battery is great. I purchased the Wrecker blades from Milwaukee brand being I was going to cut some metal objects and mainly wood. They cut through anything! Nails, screws, and wood and laminate counters smoothly.

I really like this Hackzall. I am a longtime user of many Milwaukee tools, both corded and cordless. I already had the cordless Sawzall but needed to do some plumbing repair on our pool. While the Sawzall would have worked, it's much easier to hold the Hackzall with one hand due to lighter weight and use the other hand to support the PVC pipe. The saw has plenty of power for the majority of cutting tasks and the battery life is great. I've used it to cut PVC pipe, thick steel threaded rod and cut up some lumber to throw in the garbage. It has accomplished all of these tasks without issue.

I have recently built a diverse set of the M12 tools. They do not disappoint! I just did a retail store build-out. I had to hang 100 4x8 sheets of MDF slot wall. I made all the sheet cuts with the M12 circular saw, did all the receptacle cut-outs with the M12 multitool, screwed in the board with the impact driver, all while listening to the M12 radio! I am a believer. I have complete lines of 18v tools from 2 of the major brands, and I found myself leaving most of them in the truck while using the M12. I do have extra batteries, and always have at least one on the charger; they don't last forever. But I have been amazed at how much I can do with these compact, lightweight tools. A home run for sure.

I use this mainly at home for odd jobs where I don’t want to drag out my big Sawzall. Use good blades with this and it will amaze you. I was not sure about the handle/ motor positioning but have found it to be super convenient where other tools won’t work.
Pros:
- strong well built tool
- great power
- surprising battery longevity
- ergonomics
Cons:
- none that I can see
I would buy this again. If I can remember to keep the jobs I use this for sized accordingly, it should let a very long time! I just keep forgetting I have that other one for the bigger jobs!

A small tool that packs a HUGE punch!

By far one of the best tools in my arsenal. I am a service plumber and everyday I encounter new challenges and obstacles when making repairs to existing plumbing this hacksaw is great for cutting threw drywall or plaster walls to cast iron and galvanized pipe. I was initially concerned because it was the first M12 that I had purchased and I did not know if the 12v was going to be able to withstand the high demand usage that I put my tools through daily. This tool is not only compact and light weight but it saws like a 18v sawzall I did upgrade to the 6.0 battery and have converted all of my tools almost to the M12 fuel line just based on the weight and the compact size. Good Job guys can’t wait to see M12 Surge.

I am sold on the M12 Fuel line of products. I also have a few M18 tools but went with this based on what I wanted was a smaller saw.
I had another brands 12v sawzall and its size was great but it lacked power. I could cut minor things like thin wall pvc or small branches but that is about it. I have used the M12 Hackzall cutting 2x4 studs, emt conduit, galvanized pipes, and pvc. No problems whatsoever. In fact it performs as well as my other brand 18v sawzall but in a much smaller footprint.
I recommend it along with every tool in the M12 Fuel tool line. If you need more power maybe go with the M18 hacksaw or super sawzall but if standard tasks are what you are wanting with one hand operation. This is it.

Love all the compact M12 tools

With a sharp blade there's no power limitations to this hackzall. It's a lightweight powerhouse with great ergonomics and it makes smooth cuts instead of rattling your brains like other reciprocating saws do. The only downsize is that it uses up a lot of battery power if you use it for continuous extended use. The >4ah batteries kinda stick plugging in and out of M12 tools but it's not bad. If you're on the M12 system then this is a good addition to your collection, but I do think the M18 Hackzall would be a little better if 18v batteries ever come down in price.

Winter pruning tool

I have a new Hackzall. I bought a 9 inch pruning blade. I have been using it to winter prune my orchard and my 10 to 16 year old ornamentals in the yard. It works wonderful. Lots of control, accurate clean cuts, makes nice smoker length fuel, and doesn’t tire me out. I’ve also used it to doe jobs that I’d usually use my corded sawzall on. The big heavy duty sawzall is a great tool but this hacksaw replaces many of the light jobs I used to do with it.
I’m all Milwaukee on cordless tools both 12 and 18 volt and like the dual voltage charger I have also.

Aluminum, copper that stupid nail you can never get to. This baby has no problem getting it done, great size for the job and easy on the wrist, however I do want the people to know, the battery will give everything it has until it has no juice left (about 20-30 min on off cutting heavy). for your sake of mind purchase the larger battery’s they make, easier cycle time. This unit does get hot, with some heavy duty cutting over time, I did purchase their larger saws-all with that mega battery for whatever might be in the way. It is unforgiving and will certainly cut threw superman without hesitation. Again, purchase of extra battery’s for whatever unit you decide to get!! Over all, amazing product and will surely continue purchasing Milwaukee products!

Great addition to my growing M12 tools. Pretty smooth stroke. I keep these smaller M12 series in my garage for projects around the home. I do run my different brand 20v tools professionally via remodeling work etc. I will say that I have a few of the M12 2.0 amp hour batteries. They are ok for quick tasks. I recommend the bigger batteries that you can get! If your looking for a saws all to demo a large room or multiple rooms this is not it! But doing some plumbing, or quick cuts here or there you’ll love it! Thanks Milwaukee tools!!

My most used Milwaukee tool. Super useful for landscaping, use a lot with a pruning blade, both long and short blades. Great for one handed use because of the light weight. I've cut up to 5" dia. trunks. With the light weight, power and long battery life, I can use it up a ladder or up a tree, and not worry about running out of juice or power. Much safer and easier to use than a chain saw. I also have the Hatchet which is also really good and a lot faster, but I reach for the Hackzall much more often
Also use it often for rough cutting, hacksawing and light demo. It's my go to tool. It stands up to drops and abuse. I also have the older non Fuel M12 Recip Saw, I liked it so much I got the FUEL version which has more power and is better balanced.

Good for pruning but less ergonomic than expected

I am a small woman over 70 years old. I bought the M12 for pruning and cutting small trees and its weight, which is easy to manage. I have one problem. I have not yet been able to open the battery case to extract and recharge the battery. My husband can’t open it either. But young strong people can. Very hard to re-charge this product with ergonomic claims. I trust that eventually the brackets will soften. I also found it very difficult to read both the literature and product explanations on the web. Too much jargon. It could also come with some practical advice on how to use a power saw. In retrospect I would have preferred a lightweight cordless orbital. Fortunately I’ve used Blackand Deckers Alligator Clipper for years ( miniature chainsaw)

This hackzall from Milwaukee is just another classic example of their quality tools. This little Saw is just great and super versatile to handle all sorts of jobs. Great for getting in areas where your traditional sawzall can’t fit. Even though it is small it still packs a nice amount of power. I use mine for cutting pipes but also like to use it to prune limbs since it is nice compact and light weight. You can’t go wrong picking this thing up for your jobs. Once you have it you’ll wonder how you managed without before.

Bought this little guy for demoing my basement, I have a full size corded recip from Milwaukee ive used before, but this little guy is by far better, easy to get into spots to reduce demo mess in the basement, meaning less time cleaning up after demo. gets into tight spots when you need to cut something used it as a jig saw for a project as I didn't have an jigsaw blades. Was great for cutting metal with the metal blades when i added a household humidifier. You never feel like you lose control with it, Has a ton of Power.

I use my hackzall for cutting small timber and metal sheets at work. This is my third one, I had a first gen and it gave up after a few years but it wasn't a fuel model so i'm inclined to believe the brushed motor gave up. The second was for home use and it's a fuel, I use that for limbing trees and cutting out plywood, it's fast and powerful. Third one is for work and it makes fast work of cutting 1/8" sheet steel and cutting out damaged cross bars on the conveyors. It fits well with the rest of my two dozen Milwaukees.

I'm a contractor and I use this for many different things. I use it to cut PVC pipe, copper pipe, steel rebar, and chunk a lumber here and there. It has plenty of power, is very easy to hold and control with one hand. I had the same tool made by a company that makes blue tools, also a 12 volt, and the grip felt about the same, but it did not have nearly the same amount of power. It's amazing what the brushless technology can do, and the superior batteries that Milwaukee makes.
You will not regret buying this.

I bought this on a whim, but now I wish I bought it earlier! This compact reciprocating saw is fantastic around the ought for small Jobs. Compact and light, it really gets the jobs around the house done.
My only thing is... After using this M12, I went ahead and also bought the M18 version.
The M12 is great for small jobs around the house though. Perfect for a DIYer like me. The M18 version is used for larger jobs in the back yard!
Amazing tool that should be in everybody's tool kit for homes/garages!

Great small power saw for many projects

I wanted a single hand power saw to use for many types of projects. I have used it to cut exhaust systems to plumbing and even pruning branches.
It works great and is not as heavy as the m18 unit or as big for smaller space work.
I have the 5 amp 12v battery as well as the 4 amp and it dose run well with both. I would say the run times are not as good as the m18 unit. However for the work I have used it it i more than what I need. It is also small and light enough for my wife to use for pruning.

I bought this without having a specific use for it, but I figured I would need it sooner or later. A week after I bought it, I used it to cut through control arm bolts. I used the "Torch" blade, I don't think they're really intended to cut hardened steel bolts, but it did work. It cut through 4 bolts and the metal control arm sleeves. It only took 1 4.0ah battery. I'm thoroughly impressed, and I plan for my future uses to be a little bit lighter duty. It's nice to have a tool that exceeds expectations.

After building several homes and doing nearly every step in the building process I have come to find the M12 Hackzall is the perfect tool for ANY job. Wether it’s trimming trusses to cutting wire for the main run into a house or cutting rebar for footings and even using it to cut gutters this tool has not disappointed me. The M12 Hackzall feels good in the hand and is extremely easy to control so you can make perfect cuts every time. The M12 Hackzall is such a great tool that it has earned itself a permanent spot at every job site with me, as it has replaced the need for a sawzall almost entirely. If anyone is on the fence for buying this tool I would give it a 11/10 as it’s a purchase I will never regret and one that many people have said “wow, what a nifty saw! I need one too”.

Use almost daily to cut pvc, wood, threaded rod, copper pipe, and brass fittings. The newer brushless model has low vibration and cuts smoothly. I keep a variety of blades for different cutting tasks. The last one I had I inherited from a co-worker, who allowed it to get wet, dirty, and rarely changed blades. As a result the blade clamp seized and broke trying to free it. Keep it clean, dry, and use the appropriate blade for the material you're cutting and you won't have any problems. Great tool.

I absolutely love Milwaukee..I could not....repeat would not work a day if I didn't have my m12 fuel hackzall or my m12 copper cutters. As a plumber for 15 years, these tools have become extremely essential. Although I wouldnt want to go without the van full of other Milwaukee tools for 1 day. Absolutely love Milwaukee. They stand behind their warranty which makes me a diehard, lifelong supporter of Milwaukee and to them I am very thankful to make my job easier and more efficient. Thank you again

I have a handyman service and I was doing a plumbing job under a bathtub and I had to cut out the old PVC and there wasn't any room for a full size reciprocating saw so I went out and got the Milwaukee m12 hackzall and I'm glad I did it is the right tool for tight spaces it worked flawless great tool. The only thing It didn't have that would've been nice was a belt clip but other then I love everything else about the tool and would recommend it to anyone who works in tight spaces . Love it

As a plumber I'm cutting pipe all day long. The Hackzall has made it a breeze. We use to set up a chop saw station to make all our cuts. Now we can take the Hackzall with us to all parts of the jobsite and cut where we are installing the pipe. It's fast and convenient. It is so well balanced that you can use one hand comfortably. My company has purchased one for each plumber. The expense is offset tenfold from the increased productivity. We love the Milwaukee tool lineup.

I have so far used this for some light plumbing and some demo work. When it come to light stuff it shreds right through it, but when comes to denser materials it takes its time compared to the full size sawzall. I’m alright with though because it’s way smaller and lighter than a full size with the added benefit of one handed use. I have a 4XC that I use for it, but if you’re gonna use it pretty consistently on heavy stuff. I’d recommend having extra batteries on standby.

Had to buy this small M12 Sawzall to fit in tight areas and to ride in my everyday service bag. Perfect size to carry in the HVAC and appliance repair service tech bag. The tool as done everything that the M18 hacksaw can do. Very impressive power for such a small tool. Also we have put pruning blades on it to trim our small hedges and trees around the home. This is a versatile tool that is small and lightweight with enough power to do any large or small job.
