bearing cap metal wore out and screws stripped out
3 years ago
when the sander worked it performed well... EXCEPT the metal material the bearing cap is made of was soft that it failed. The screws were fine but the holes the screws go into were deformed and wouldn't stay in. Not to mention the part that failed was be hind the disc assembly, which isn't in the user maintenance area of the tool. So this wasn't even in a place I would regularly look for up keep of the tool. I mostly do framing and infrequently use this sander. I can only imagine how fast this would fail for a professional who utilize a sander regularly. I am very disappointed.

Not random orbit!
Replaced a DeWalt with this sander....big mistake. When sander is not in contact with surface the unit speeds up and no longer "random orbits" but becomes a "grinder" gouging surface as it is reapplied. I talked to tech support several months ago with no answers in regards to repair. Finally, it has become dangerous to use....yesterday while using my finger came in contact with the rotating 80 grit pad, my finger was cut to the bone on the first swipe and then the second swipe sanded the top layers of skin off. Needless to say the unit is now being scrapped.

Very Disappointing
I got this sander at our local big box store. I will admit it was a heck of a deal and very inexpensive. Perhaps I should have checked out some reviews!! I am a woodworking hobbyist and by no means do I use this tool to excess. It has maybe 4 or 5 hours of run time on it. The hook and loop pad has worn out already. I checked with big box store and of course they don't have parts. I sent 3 different requests via the Milwaukee website enquiring about replacement parts and nothing. No one has contacted me back. This will be my last Milwaukee tool!!!

I will keep buying this product
We sand and finish hardwood floors . I have a crew of 6 and we re really hard on palm sanders . I've used about every name brand and the Millwalkee holds its own on durability and lasting for long periods of sanding . The hook and loop pads are cheap on all of palm sanders . you have to keep putting replacement pads on them . The plastic dust collection box is a bad design but i use dust collection and a 1 /1/2' hose fits right on the round adapter supplied in the kit . works perfect . The machine sands good .

No Load Speed Out of Control
I've had this for about 1 year now, sands well for the price but the vac adapter/collection tub fall out rather easily, could be improved with a locking design.
More concerningly it has recently started to spin up to wild speed when not under load. While sanding it holds speed and can be adjusted with the dial but as soon as you lift it off it speeds up out of control and need to be turn off to spin back down or you risk damaging your project when you restart sanding with the speed it's going at.

Will not turn on
My 5" sander works well except for poor dust collection. Powerful and aggressive. However, halfway through a job yesterday, the sander would not turn on. I suspect it is the switch, but I am not sure it will be worthwhile paying to have it fixed at my local tool shop.
I have been a longtime fan and advocate of Milwaukee tools (BTW, I grew up near Milwaukee). I have given Milwaukee tools as gifts for years. Now my faith is shaken, and I will start looking around for a more reliable brand.

Orbital Disc FLEW OFF after bearing failure
5 years ago
Bought this product aprrox. a year ago. All of my power tools are Milwaukee, and im super happy with most of them... But this Random Orbital almost seriously injured me. The bearings fell out of the bottom and the sanding disk let go and spun off the side of my safety glasses... If I was too aggressive with this tool or using it incorrectly, I wouldn't be writing this review... But I have only used it a handful of times... maybe 10 times MAX... VERY disappointed in this product...

Not Impressed
This was my first purchase of a Milwaukee tool. Not impressed. I have owned this barely a year and have already had to replace the sanding pad (which is near impossible to find replacement for) AND the dust collection system is terrible. It was so difficult to remove the cap that it ended up breaking and now is useless!!! My machine did not come with the adapter to attach to a shop vac as it was supposed to! Now I have literally NO DUST COLLECTION! NOT IMPRESSED!
