Pretty good sander, but has switch design issue
2 years ago
After having this problem with the first one and returning it, second sander has the same issue. The power switch does not want to turn on after a couple uses. The only way I can now turn it on is to use a flat screwdriver to press into the on portion of the button. No amount of finger pressing works. And, once it's on, it often cuts off and you have to repeat the process. Very frustrating!
I do like the 'new' paper mounting method. Still not great but better than it used to be.
It would be nice to include adapters and retainers for different shop-vac hoses and not just Dewalt.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Get the Random Orbit Sander Instead
I needed a new sander after my last one died. At first, this palm sander seemed pretty good, but I have a few criticisms. First, the power button is a little flaky. Sometimes it turns on easily, other times it does not. Second, I feel like it will FLY through the sandpaper. If you're not careful (see pics) you can easily chip the square pad. Third, and finally, it's tough to control at times. The random orbit sander is very smooth. This palm sander is pretty erratic when working with heavy grit paper.

IT is OK

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great sander for getting paper on and off quickly.
Down side is that the cord is stiff and not very long, I prefer the makita soft and no kink cord with 8-9 feet of length.
Also the on-off switch is in the same location and same color as the paper release button. not as user friendly as it could be and seeing that little bitty yellow line to indicate on. You guys can do better, Like your plunge router which is excellent and your 735 x planer which has great reviews and is my next purchase.

dont get taken, its junk and no way to fix them
6 months ago
I had this about 2 years as a gift. It has seen hardly any use. yesterday it started sounding weird then I hear a clink and the motor jammed up. I thought it was the brushes, but it turned out the be the "platen". It totally fell apart inside and fell in to the motor fins locking it up. Going to every parts site, the replacement part is already DISCONTINUED and they say no substitute. There is no recall and they still sell these models everywhere. They even know its JUNK and still sell them.

DEWALT - 1/4 Sheet Palm Grip Sander
Bought this sander two weeks ago to sand some hard to reach areas of the floor that I was finishing as well as for upcoming woodworking projects. Great little sander except for one major flaw....really wish the electrical cord was three- (3) feet longer.
Was using it yesterday to sand a door that I am building...again...really wish the electrical cord was just three- (3) feet longer...that is all...just three more feet.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Worked well until .......

Got this as a Xmas present. Used it 2 times and then couldn’t turn it off. Unplugged it. Pushed the switch to turn off. Plugged it back in. Started running as soon as I plugged it in again. Pushed switch to turn off several times. No luck turning it off.
Have lots of Dewalt product, about 15 items or so with no problems , other than a mouse chewing on a belt in my mitre saw.
Aaahhhh

Good for the price DWE6411
Quiet operation, didn't see any dust blow-by from the collector bag. Well balanced seems lighter than the DW411 I had, that just died. Not sure if it sands more or less aggressively than the DW411. I like the front mounted sandpaper clamp along with the double rear 'spring' clamp, it seems that to be easier to draw the paper tighter. I hope lasts along as the DW411...
Yes, I recommend this product.

excellent for fine finishing
This is my first pad sander. I always used the orbital sanders. The Dewalt pad sander is much better for fine finishing. It's very smooth and not as aggressive as the orbital sanders. It is easy to change paper on this sander. The only thing I don't like, is the soft on/off switch. I like a firm switch.
