Compact grinder

I bought my grinder about 6 months ago from a friend, he didn't like, so i bought from him, i should know better. I used probably 3-4 times and the head was so hot, after doing one simple cut. I couldn't touch the head (even to tight the disc) for about 15 min. I tried again and keep shooting sparks out from the head. I do not recommend this tool. IT IS DANGEROUS. For the last 2 years all the Dewalt tools i bought, i took back. Unfortunately I'm stuck with this grinder. Dewalt, in the 90's and early 2000's was the best of the best. The tools used to last forever, at that time if you had a Dewalt you had the ELIETE of tools. Unfortunately now on days, not anymore.

We started purchasing these for a weld shop, not as our primary grinders but something just for sanding discs. We use pneumatic and 9" grinders for all the heavy use. I work maintenance so I have repaired hundreds of grinders over the years. Within 2 days of these hitting the shop floor they have had issues with the armatures shorting out. I have several sitting on my bench that are worthless right now. It is a short on the commutator between different segments so this is caused by the winding on the armature having poor grade of insulation, degrading with the heat from use and then shorting out. Only resolution is to buy new armature, but the price is prohibitive, especially for one that is most likely the same quality.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I just bought this tool and they is no spanner wrench included. The website indicated that this tool does not require a tool to change the discs yet there is a thread bushing to hold the wheel in the spindle. To make matters worse, one of the instruction manuals online (there are three by the way!!?) indicates that changing the disc is tool-less! The only wrench in the box is a hex wrench which apparently is for rotating the head of needed. Very disappointed in both the missing wrench and multiple/confusing instructions.

Bought this grinder today for a couple of cutting and grinding jobs. Opened the box after getting home and it is missing components - the backing flange and the threaded clamp nut. Cant use the tool without these parts, including using the grinding wheel that was included in the box. Now get to drive another 30 miles round trip to the store to return and buy a Milwaukee grinder. I went with DeWalt over Milwaukee when initially looking at them in the store because of the DeWalt name, bad choice.

My new previously unused similar grinder from H. Freight died on me in the middle of cutting off some factory rivets securing a bracket on my truck’s frame. Cut the heads off of only three rivets when the thing almost caught on fire. My new DeWalt cut through the remaining rivet on that bracket with ease and went on to cut the heads off all four rivets on the matching bracket on other side of frame without even getting warm, much less hot. Great product built like a tank. Get one!

Made this purchase to replace a unit I owned and worked to death for some twenty-five years. DeWalt has the best versatility for the kind of work I get into in small places. So I chose this for my cutting and grinding. First job it was put to the test with a diamond cut saw to smooth edges of a tile lineand grind back the old mortar. And followed up with cutting bolts flush to the existing floor with a 6" metal cutting disc. The removable guard is perfect to do the trick.

I have another Dewalt grinder comparable to this that is maybe a 7 or 8 years older model and which has provided good service. But I'm always having to switch out different wheels or brushes so I thought I'd get a second grinder. When I got this home and opened the box I was very disappointed to discover the power cord on this unit is barely more than half the length of my old grinder - approximately 6 feet. Really, that's not long enough! I'm returning this.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve had this grinder for about 3 years and it has done everything I asked it to. I absolutely put it to some extreme use (that you really shouldn’t do with a 7amp grinder) and it took it like a champ. It finally died, but I honestly can say that it was not the fault of this grinder. I pushed it hard. Just upgraded to the 4214 with more Amps, but will likely buy another 4011 due to the weight and size.
