Great trimmer!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Been using this product a few weeks now and must say it is truly amazing. My first dewalt “outdoor” tool and I was greatly impressed. The minor assembly required took less than 5 minutes with the included wrench and the 5.0mah battery was ready to go out of the box. The folding feature makes for quick and easy storage and the bump/feed/retract mechanism on the roll is the best I’ve ever seen on a string trimmer. The powerful brushless motor reduces noise so greatly and the huge guard stops debris from hitting you while trimming. Excellent tool made from quality materials built to last.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Plenty of power

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this 14 inch brushless string trimmer from DeWalt to test and write a honest review. So let me start out with the things I like. It has plenty of power and the 2 speeds help with battery life. Also the fact that it folds almost in half does help somewhat with storage. The thing that needs work is the manual, it is not very clear when it comes to the instructions on replacing the string. Thank God for YouTube videos. Another thing is the shaft mounted handle, it doesn’t adjust very far because of the hinge to allow for folding, also you need to use the included Allen key to adjust it. Other than those two things it is great. The quality is very good and I wouldn’t hesitate purchasing this unit.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Big upgrade from the previous model

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really wanted to like the original 20V stringer, but just found it missing on two fronts: the trim guard and the line feed. Having plenty of DeWalt batteries around from all my other work tools made it a logical decision to go with the DeWalt, even if it wasn't the best. Well....the new model is out and they stepped up the game for sure. This new design is very solid and night and day from the last model. The guard is great, well designed and blocked more of the debris than before. The line feed is consistent and much easier to change....the biggest plus in my opinion. I found it ripped through some tough grasses with ease and still lasts a long time on a battery, especially if paired with a flex battery, although not really necessary for my particular tasks. Storing is a bit of an issue as I like to hang mine from the garage wall. I wish they would come up with a mounting bracket, but this one folds in half so winter storage will be easier at least. All in all, a great upgrade and does the job well plus always adding to my 20V line so more yellow is always good!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Space saver and Lots of power

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used gas trimmers all my life and this is the first time going cordless. My initial fear was the lack of power and the short run time so I picked up two 6 ah batteries. I can trim and edge my entire half acre property on one battery charge and with power left over. The tool itself is easy to use and responds quickly. Pros: lots of power. Super portable and storage is easy. Response is great Cons: trimmer head makes a noise. Weight distribution isn’t great with the trim head being heavier. Placement of handle does not allow for a natural grip making it difficult to operate over a period of time. I would still recommend this to anyone looking to jump from gas powered trimmer to electric.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Nice Tool but not durable

I own a Lawn care company and I was switching to battery powered trimmers and this one did a great job. I have referred others to get the trimmer because of the power and I even purchased 4 additional batteries. Then after 2 months of use it just stopped working. I checked the vents to make sure they were clear. All it does now it clicks. I was in the process of purchasing 2 more units but now I am Leary. I was transitioning to all battery powered trimmers. If I didn't have my gas trimmers I would have had uncompleted work and angry customers. I have DeWalt drills, circular saws, reciprocating saws, impact driver and screwdrivers and I am happy otherwise. I have a total of about 12 batteries and 2 4 battery charging units.

No, I do not recommend this product.

So far so bad

This thing has stopped working three times and I've only had it for a couple of months. The first time i figured it was some kind of safety because I had finished cutting and cleaned off the tool an hour before. I figured maybe it got some moisture in it or something because the grass was kind of wet. Now I know that wasn't the case. It has been in the house for the last week with no users and when I took it out today it wouldn't do anything. Not sure if I just got a lemon or what I plan on calling the waranty department and will update once I find something out.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Made it right

I can’t find my old review to amend it so I am writing a new one. I bought one of these back in May and used it about 10 times over the course of the summer and it quit working. It burned the motor up and I was pretty steamed about it. I left a pretty bad review. I contacted the customer service line after I left the review and they sent me a new one. There is a type 1 and a type 2 of you look on the side of it and the old one was a type me and the new one was a type 2. They must have had an issue with the type 1. They defiantly made it right. I am happy now.

Made the right choice

Have been using for 5 months now. Have been waiting for the string to run out before writing a review. It took this long for the string to run out and I mow 3-4 yards a week. Definitely going to stick with the Dewalt replacement string. Love the folding feature, and I have yet to run the battery out even after doing a couple yards in a day. I run it on the low setting all the time, have never felt like I needed the high setting and I believe this is why I am getting such long running time on my battery. It is a little heavy, would be my only negative comment.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Don't Buy. Will break within 1 Year.

Purchased this product less than a year ago first few times it worked fine aside from the horrible spoiling design. After less than a year and less than 10 uses the motor smoked and it stopped working. I anticipated a reasonable warranty process but was given the option to either drive over an hour to a service center for a possible repair or ship the product for a possible repair or replacement in 4 weeks. Either would result in me needing to purchase a new string trimmer in the meantime. I will never purchase a Dewalt product again after this experience.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Better than I expected!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Finally was able to get this maybe 2 weeks ago and so far I have not been disappointed! Straight out of the box it was super easy to get put together. Maybe 5 minutes is what it took me, and after that I put the battery to charge which only took me about an hour. The trimmer cuts so well and the 2 speed function had a huge help in certain areas of my yard. As well as the ratcheting line adjustment know the head is super convenient and quick! The 5ah battery got me through the whole cut and still had 2 bars of power! All in all I'm super happy with the kit!

Yes, I recommend this product.

One major flaw

I bought this trimmer just a couple of weeks ago. I needed a reliable cordless trimmer. DeWalt has been my "go to" for good products. I was clearing an area after about 10 minutes when the head stopped turning. From what I can tell, there is grass and weeds around the spindle. I pulled out as much as I could, but I can still see some way up in it, and it still will not turn. With only one use to judge by, this is NOT acceptable. If I can figure out how to clear it and keep it clear, it will be of great use. If you buy one, be aware of this problem.

Powerful and compact

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I replaced a cheap corded trimmer/edger with this trimmer. It can easily cut down all the grass on my 1/8 acre lot. It is incredibly quite for the amount of power so I can even use it into the evening without disturbing neighbors. One battery completes the job with juice to spare. I did not realize this was not an actual edger, but with a bit of an angle you can pull it off (this is not intended and the manual does not suggest this). I did not think the folding form of this would be handy, but I actually love it and storage is compact and simple.

Great Tool

I bought this for our church lawn which is about two acres. I also bought extra batteries thinking I would need them. Well, one battery took care of all the trimming. So you get a lot of trimming with one battery. I would suggest you just get one battery and try it. If it doesn't last for your size lawn, then go ahead and buy an extra battery. The trimmer has a good feel to it and it is very strong. It is a little on the heavy side but too bad where it would break the deal of purchasing one. I like the idea that you have two speeds to work with. I used the low speed for much of the trimming and when I got into the thicker grass, I switched it to the high speed. Of course your battery will last longer if you use the slower speed.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I wanted to love this trimmer...

I really wanted to love this trimmer but these are my issues, it’s very top heavy towards the head. So it makes your arms burn just from slight use, also the handle placement is to far up and really should be placed in the middle for it being balanced to help with the weight. Dewalt put the folding Mechanism were the handle should be so it can’t be fixed. My other small issue is checking the charge on your battery. You must remove the battery just to see your charge. The main issue is the heaviest for normal customers, so I can’t recommend.

Cuts anything

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this about a month ago and have used it a lot. Low setting is perfect for the yard and around the house. We live in the country with tough weeds/ grasses and the high setting easily cuts it all down to size. You can cut a lot on one charge. It’s a bit heavy for me but I’m in my 70s; any lighter and it probably wouldn’t cut so well. This is a beast compared to my last battery operated trimmer. The fold feature is way more useful than expected. In summary; I love this tool and highly recommend it...you can’t go wrong with this!

Great String Trimmer!

This 20 volt 14 inch String Trimmer is very pleasant surprise! Very quick simple assembly out of the box. Very powerful and easy to use. My old gas trimmer worked me to death. Way to much vibration. This 20v DeWalt is the answer I was looking for. I just trimmed weeds that I haven't touched since last year. When weeds get wrapped around the head as they always do, this unit clears itself pretty quickly and easily. I also have 4 other DeWalt 2ov tools so it was a no brainer to get this trimmer. I always have a battery ready to go. The ONLY drawback I see is you have to remove the battery to check the amount of charge that is left. (if that is in fact a drawback. When is stops running switch out the batteries) Still very new, but very pleased so far!

Yes, I recommend this product.

Good trimmer, needs better spool, more reliability

Purchased this unit some time ago. The foldability is a great feature, and I really enjoyed it. The brushless motor has plenty of power, and great runtime. Objectively, this was one of the best trimmers I've ever owned while it was running. However, the motor on mine failed after a few months of regular use, and the bump spool, while feeding easily has a tendency to break rather easily when bumped to extend the line. Would suggest using heavier plastic on the next version as well as improving the thermal design of the trimmer head.

Starting Smoking After A Handful of Uses

I purchased this product in April 2021, and used it very sparingly. When it worked, it was great. 3.5 months into use, the head started smoking and not functioning anymore. My only recourse appears to be purchasing a new one (which will not be happening) or taking it to get serviced and paying what would amount to purchasing a completely new unit. I bought Dewalt because I was under the impression I could rely on the durability of the product produced, but this one didn't live up to the name. I would not recommend this product.

Was working great until the string played out

Worked great for about 3 months, then got jammed and the string was no longer feeding through the eyelet. I could still see string in there but there was no instructions on how to pull it back out (or if that was even possible). The instructions on how to restring were of no use whatsoever. I have many Dewalt tools and bought this without even looking at reviews because everything else to this point has been great. This string trimmer has a lot of nice features that I'm sure I'd love if I could get it restrung.

2 times and out

I purchased this weed eater because my Dewalt hand tools are amazing and it would use the same battery. I also purchased 2 new batteries for this tool. The weed eater would run for about 15 seconds and quit. I reseated the battery and nothing. I replaced the battery and again it ran for 15 seconds and stopped. I returned the tool and replaced it with the same model...yep the same problem with this one. I used 4 different batteries and always the same result. So I returned this one and purchased a green one.

Easy to Use, But Handle Broke

I do like this trimmer. It works pretty well and battery life is good enough for me to edge my corner lot on a third acre. However, for some reason one time I was carrying it out the garage to begin trimming, and the auxiliary handle just fell off and the trimmer slammed down on my foot. Foot was bruised and painful for 4 days. Handle was installed correctly per the instruction manual, but this still happened. I do have other dewalt products and love them, but this did not live up to my dewalt expectations.

Not bad for a drill battery

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you don’t already own DeWalt tools, you shouldn’t buy this product. That being said, if you’re like me, and your garage and truck are littered with DeWalt batteries, go right ahead and get this tool. It’s got a surprising amount of power for a 20V, although I imagine the 60V probably makes this thing look like a child’s toy. It works well for what I need it for. My only complaint is that the head doesn’t seem to be very durable and needs to be replaced after 2 seasons. Overall, not bad.

Not reliable

Bought this trimmer and trimmed about 100 ft of sidewalk and it stopped working. Took it to a service center, waited about a month for a replacement. Trimmed less than 50 ft with the replacement and it stopped working so I will have to wait for another replacement. This is the worst product I have ever had from DeWalt. I have 15 other DeWalt products and very happy with them but this trimmer is not a good one. I have since purchase the 60V MAX trimmer and it seems to work much better.

Guard your GUARD SCREWS

Ok, it finally happened: my guard screws fell out and after combing through the grass for over an hour, I decided to write this review. Be a I read the reviews, I remembered to tighten the guard screws a turn or two before each use. I don’t think it should be necessary if the parts were a proper fit and survived all the head vibration but now I need your help! Can you reply to me with replacements as my dcst922 weedwacker guard is a safety feature and I’m a sucker for safety! Thanks!

best new features on a string trimmer

i wanted to try this new trimmer and see if the features were worth the effort, they are the folding feature is great i can put it in the trunk of my car or fold it up and stow it under the seat in my crew cab dodge work truck. Its has 2 power settings hi and low i rarely get off the low. Its not a brush cutter and should not be bought as so that requires much larger line diameter. I trim 7 ac at my house and 4 at our rental property with ease and don't have to haul gas.

Awesome Weed Trimmer for a quick trim!!!!!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this item and upon opening I was thoroughly impressed. The build quality is great and the feel is great. When it’s snapped together you don’t even know it’s foldable. It’s very sturdy with no play. When it’s folded it very portable and easy to hang up on the garage wall. Battery run time is great also. I used to trim around my entire home and it still had battery left. Even if it ran out I have plenty of 20v batteries laying around to keep it going. The balancing felt great and I’m 6’2”. I didn’t feel like I was hunched over the entire time. I haven’t had to change the line yet but it has one of the ez feed heads on it that allow you to put the line through and wind it up. All around this is a awesome weed eater. I wouldn’t have expected anything else from Dewalt. There 20v line of tools great.

20 min. and off to the repair shop

My neighbor bought one and I liked what he could trim with it and how long it ran on a charge. So, my son and my wife bought me one for Fathers Day. Also, got me the rapid charger. So, a couple of days later I charged up the battery and went out side to try it out. It ran for 20 min. and quit. Wow, that didn't seem like a very long run time on a 5ah battery. So, back inside to charge it backup. I had also ordered a 6ah battery and it had arrived so I charged that one up also. The next day was nice so I decided to tryout my new toy again. Put the 5ah battery in, pulled the trigger......and nothing. Tried the 6ah battery.......same result. Found a service center about 45min. away and took it to them; and in 4 - 6 weeks I'll have it back. So in another 4 - 6 weeks maybe I'll have something to write a review about.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought the string trimmer just a couple of days ago and I used it to do both my front yard and my backyard. I have bought several different strain trimmers battery operated ones that couldn’t cut through a half inch of grass to save itself, gas powered ones that had plenty of power but they usually seem to last about one season and then it’s replacing them. 5 years ago
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I tried the dewalt 20V MAX* 14 in. Folding String Trimmer out today and let me just say it outperformed the gas powered echo trimmer I’ve been using! The dewalt has instant torque and a insane amount of power! I like how Quiet it is and not having to deal with mixing gas. Just charge the battery and your good to go! I cut a 25x60 yard with grass that was 16inchs tall in some spots and did it in 4 minutes and still had 2 bars of battery left! and the variable speed trigger is great for cutting around plants and fence! I’ve always said In the past I’ll never go electric for landscape tools with how much I use them but After using the string trimmer now I’m looking at the dewalt push mower and chainsaw! I encourage everyone to at least try the string trimmer and give it a chance! You won’t be disappointed! Thank you dewalt for another great product!
