A sustainable investment that combines comfort and safety for your cows: Canarm AgSystems dairy farm equipment is the whole package
Whether you’re planning a new farm building or replacing an existing structure, choosing the right equipment is a step not to be underestimated. It can be tempting to base your decision solely on financial factors when choosing one product over another. However, this often leads to sacrificing quality for the sake of your wallet. And you might actually be missing out on medium- and long-term savings, because lower-quality equipment needs to be repaired and replaced more often.
When it comes to Canarm agricultural equipment such as stalls, feed fronts and gates, there are two things that make them special: the materials used to make them and the way they are designed. Louise Leclerc, Canarm’s Quebec territory manager, explains. “We work with non-galvanized metal, and the products are not hot-dip galvanized until the manufacturing process is complete. There is no bending or welding done after the galvanization, because this can cause microfissures and weak points in the coating, which can lead to rusting and affect the equipment’s longevity.”
Comfort-first stalls
Available in different lengths (79, 88 or 94 inches), Canarm’s stalls are designed with your cows’ comfort in mind. The open concept allows for more freedom of movement and reduces the risk of injuries. The stalls have more space between bars, as well as neck rails that curve upward in the middle to allow for more head movement. These maximize the forward range of mobility, allowing cows to stand up more easily. Another important feature is the large lower opening in the side dividers, which allows more room for the hips while the cow is laying down and prevents bruising. The headrail is also 48 inches high to prevent shoulder injuries when the cow stands up.
Self-locking feed fronts
In the feed alley, self-locking feeders optimize animal management. The individual or group lock-and-release system allows cows to be held in place all at once or one at a time, so that they can easily be identified and treated in one location. Each station also comes with its own panic release button. The feed fronts are strong and durable, being made of 100% hot-dip galvanized metal, and rubber coverings at all contact points mean that they are quiet, too. The counterweight system also ensures that the stalls stay open when empty. Canarm self-locking feed fronts are available at Agrizone by BMR in 8, 10 or 12 feet. Custom sizes can also be ordered directly from the manufacturer.
Adjustable gates
Canarm four-bar gates are not only available in a wide range of sizes (6 to 18 feet) but also adjustable in length. They can replace any existing gates you may have and can be set up differently to suit your needs. The gates are heavy duty, made of 23/8-inch bars and reinforced with vertical posts welded across the horizontal bars. They are also made of hot-dip galvanized metal for better durability.
Round-bottom waterer
This round-bottom waterer is also tippable, which makes it easy to clean the trough and change the water. It is made of 304 stainless steel, so bacteria cannot cling to its surface. The 48- and 72-inch models come with optional wall or floor mounts. The edge is reinforced for better strength and to prevent injuries to cows.
