Waste of money

I bought this a month ago. It won’t record without a subscription which is stupid. Milking money from people who already paid for the unit. I should at least be able to see who’s coming and going without a darn subscription! I understand that some features would be held back like facial recognition and notifications or something that stops it from recording dogs and cats. That would be acceptable but these guys are just being greedy. All I want is a simple motion activated 10 sec video of who’s coming and going. I shouldn’t have to pay every month for something so basic. I’m not thrilled about this device.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Take Out the Guessing Games!!!

Look Its pretty simple. You dont know if someone is attempting to gain access to your garage by tamperiong with the provided door opener that comes with your garage door opener in the original box. I was comiong home to fint the lcover to mine being open. I was thinking was it me or someoen else or the wind. So I replaced the older one with the Smart Video Garage Door Opener and now i can see the entire drive way and the door but I now know if anyone is walking up to my home and tampering with my keypad opener. Only thing I was reccommend is the it comes with an additional battery not just one. Since you have to maintain a charge. But over all its a great addition to home security.

Yes, I recommend this product.

It’s alright…..

Let me start by saying I’m frustrated that no matter how many times I try I cannot get this device to close the door by pressing the home button. I have managed to get everything else working ok except for that. Other than that the product works ok, as many have published the battery is meh but it’s is what it is I guess we gotta buy a back up battery. The rest works ok. Can someone tell me what I’m doing wrong that I can’t get this device to do the basic function of closing my garage door by pressing the house button? I even brought a wife extender to the garage that is literary at 20 feet from it.

Hello, we are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with your myQ Video Keypad. The myQ Video Keypad does have the ability to close the garage door by simply pressing the HOME button. However, this feature is only intended for Chamberlain, LiftMaster and Craftsman openers that have a yellow learn button. Should you need technical support, please email social@chamberlain.com. We are happy to help.

Useless piece of equipment with battery 30 days

I bought two of these for my primary home and vacation home. The advertising says a battery life of two years. That is how long the battery itself can be used. The life of the battery before charging is 30 days and thats even with very little use. You then have to take it off, charge it for 6 hours and put it back together every month! This is really worthless with my vacation home that I have to pay a person every month to go up the mountain to the house to charge for use for renters. A solar charger would be ideal and all of my security cameras have that feature. I wish I would have known the short battery life and lack of solar before installing. I am about to throw them both away.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hello Bret, thank you for your review and feedback on the myQ Smart Garage Video Keypad. I am sorry to hear of your experience with your keypad and connection, i'd be happy to help. To maximize the battery life of your myQ Video Keypad, we recommend setting your Motion Sensitivity Meter to either the low, or lowest setting. This will ensure your keypad is only capturing events immediate to your garage door proximity. Wi-Fi signal strength also plays a significant factor in the battery life performance of your device. You can view your Wi-Fi network strength in the myQ app under the Video Keypad Device Management Settings section. There are several ways to improve your Wi-Fi connection for your device, including moving your router closer to your device or purchasing a Wi-Fi extender. The myQ Video Keypad must be within 50 feet of your Wi-Fi router if it is broadcasting a 5GHz signal. If you connect to a 2.4GHz signal, your router can be up to 150ft in distance. To ensure best performance, it is recommended to have your myQ Video Keypad connected to a 2.4GHz network. Should you these settings already be in place, or you need further help, have any comments, concerns or questions, please email us at social@chamberlain.com and mention this review, so we can get in contact with you to the resolve the issue. Thank you!

An absolute waste of $$$ NO battery life

My intent was to use on our 2nd home where we visit intermittently. There is no possible way to keep the battery charged, and I mean NO ABSOLUTE way. You will be married to this unit and it’s charge cord. All reviews as it relates to battery life, the reply from the manufacturer is always the same. They will pass onto their team. How about a full return and take this junk back. Just admit it does not work, it is not that hard to do, and stop advertising how great this unit is to consumers. It is just junk. Please give me my money back as I do not appreciate paying for product that spends more time on my counter charging than it does on my garage door. More reviews need to go onto consumer sites

No, I do not recommend this product.

Battery life not good or convenient to charge

Keypad is nice but it is not advertised that it is fully battery operated, or the WiFi connectivity requirements. There’s also no information about the battery life. We have found after the first few darts that the battery needs to be recharged often - every few days. This is not at all convenient because you have to unscrew the keypad from the mounting pad to get to the battery, then take it out and plug it in for several hours. for the cost of the unit, an extra battery should be provided for swap out purposes. Or even better have an option that can be connected via plug in or hardwiring.

Get out while you can

So glad I purchased this produce and than this abysmal company made changes to how I can use the item that I purchased to open the garage door opener in my home. I cannot use the keypad without internet access, which is something it claims to be able to do. I have to use the MyQ app which works at best 50% of the time. Sometimes the keypad fails to work at all. This is due to changes that were made on the companies end after I made the purchase and everything was working fine. My two options are to use a half working item and hope it works when I need it to, or replace my opener.

No, I do not recommend this product.

An okay device but still needs work

The item is well constructed with a clear camera picture. Streaming is a bit challenging at times because it takes a minute to view as I wait for the feed to go live. Motion detection is questionable at any level other then high sensitivity. It shouldn’t be hard to pick up “people” motion in front of our garage. It hardly ever picks up a delivery person leaving a package on the opposite side of the garage door from where the camera is mounted. Buy an extra battery since you will have the turn the motion sensitivity level all the way up which will drain your battery quicker..

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great keypad, mediocre detection

Video quality is good but only picks up motion from about 15 feet away. Have had several deliveries where they drop package at garage door and it doesn’t pick up the vehicle or person due to them being past the 15’ mark. Verified from other cameras where they were at the time. The setup and assigning specific people codes works very well and with ease. So if you need a keypad for family or friends it will get you a clear video of them punching in the code. I’m at the highest sensitivity setting for the last week or so and battery is about 71%. Overall product is as described but disappointed in distance it covers. I would imagine if it picked up all my actual traffic the battery life would suffer tremendously.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Quite a let down

I installed this item expecting to have remote access via phone, but all I get is the spinning wheel saying 'Fetching your feed'. The remote device I installed years ago on another door works just fine and shows up in the app. I'm thinking of returning this and just getting another Smart Hub like I did before. At least that works. The latest MyQ app is full of ads and more painful to navigate than it used to be. All it will do for me is what a basic keypad will do, nothing more. No video, no remote, but will let me know when the keypad was accessed, so it is communicating.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Good concept, bad execution.

I have motion settings as low as they will go and need to charge the battery every 10 days. The estimates of 1-3 months are nonsense. Every time you need to charge the battery you have to unscrew a tiny screw, not even a real security screw. Then the battery takes 8 hours to charge. Very confused at this product. A regular keypad lasts years on two AA batteries. Obviously a camera changes that. But there’s no way to turn off motion sensing. I only want the video to record when someone is using the keypad or the garage door opens/closes. But there’s no setting for that.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Hello. I’m sorry to hear you're having trouble with your myQVideo Keypad. Expected battery life depends on several factors including household activity, Wi-Fi signal strength, ambient temperature, and selected motion sensitivity settings. An example based on activity can be found below: Quiet Household (fewer than 10 events per day): 3 months of battery life Typical Household (10-30 events per day): 2 months of battery life Busy Household (over 30 events per day): 1 month of battery life The myQ Video Keypad does come with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery! This is a custom battery pack, but additional batteries are available for purchase if you want to ensure your device never encounters down-time. Please visit this link and let us know if you have any additional questions: myQ Video Key Pad Battery | myQ https://www.myq.com/products/smart-garage-video-keypad-battery We are looking at making improvements to the user experience for additional customization to extend the battery life. We will extend the recommendation to the product team about a hardwiring product. High Maintenance-Low Value

The battery concept is ridiculous. Having to remove a screw every two weeks and then spend a day charging a battery was a bad idea. You don't discovery you can't get video until the setup fails and you find you need a subscription. The only way to access is through a smart phone, no website is accessible from a computer. When you request the motion history, it takes forever transfer data. Here is a thought, with the room behind the mounting bracket and an external connection on the keypad (on the back) you good have incorporated a bigger battery. The idea that you need to remove the keypad, lose the functionality, remove the battery, and charge for 9 hours would fall well short of design criteria in IEEE-15288.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Good concept- bad battery

My has been installed for a couple of months. Install is easy and went quickly. My issue is the battery went dead within three weeks. So I thought it may have been something wrong with the install or a bad battery. Recharge battery and I even order a battery for back up, same thing happened again did not make three weeks. I charged the new battery and tried again. Within days the battery charge was down to 70%. I turn off all video recording and was still draining rapidly. Good concept but poor quality. I find it hard to believe MyQ has sent this product to the market. They have to know it does not hold a charge. I would strongly recommend not to purchase this product until they get the battery under control.

Chamberlain MyQ Garage Door Video Keypad

I was on the fence about buying this based on other reviews. I'm glad I bought this. I'm happy with it so far, for the most part. When it went on sale, I thought I would give it a try. There are areas where this could be improved upon. The positives outweigh the negatives for me. A wired version would be nice. I'm not having the short battery life like some are mentioning. I wish the notification software was more customizable. I'm accustomed to Google/Nest camera software and notification settings. These are the 2 items that would make this a 5 star item, in my opinion. Install was easy and straight forward. Pairing with my garage door opener and wifi network was trouble free as well. I would recommend this item.

Pros and Cons. Cons win!

Pro: video quality. Cons: battery life & recharging; audio quality. The battery does not last very long. To recharge the battery you need to remove it from garage and connect battery to electrical outlet. Also, there have been many occasions when I review motion history — it’s empty. If I wait and try later, all the history appears. The device is only held in place with a tiny screw; anyone can easily remove the video keypad; not secure. Conclusion: improvement to battery, audio, and secure attachment needs to be done before I can enthusiastically recommend.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Cannot connect to network

I bought one, I never have been able to make it connect to the network and without that it cannot be used. I have a MyQ door opener who works perfectly with the app. I had an old modem/router so I bough a recent router thinking it was the modem the problem but even with the newest router I was not able to connect the video keypad to the network. All my other iot devices work perfectly. Also, the battery was totally draining just by trying to connect the video keypad to the network. I returned the product. I suggest to buy the keypad only without the camera.

Does not replace standard wireless keypad

I have three garage doors. My old LiftMaster 878MAX wireless kepypad controls all three doors. With the old control, I could hit the "ENTER" button, and any and all doors that happened to be open would close. The myQ only controls one door. I need the flexible control of setting pins remotely, and this does that. However, I still need the original "Dumb Garage NoCamera Keypad" . So I now have two controls screwed to my wall. Note that with 3 myQ devices (one for each door) I still woudl not be able to shut all three doors with one keypress. Humph.

Works as advertised, but some flaws are present

Just purchased and installed this and it works great, for a single opener. I really can’t understand why there is not an option to add multiple openers into a unit that is this size. I have three garage door openers and unfortunately did not do enough research prior to ordering this keypad and realized upon install that it can only control a SINGLE OPENER, ridiculous. This would be a much better product if it had the capability open and close multiple garage door openers by connecting and setting different PINs to each opener, like the little keypads that are much smaller that can control several openers. Really missed the mark on this one. Hopefully there is some traction to upgrade these keypads to have a multiple opener capability.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Fairly easy to connect but...

I b found it easy to connect and install but once installed after about about a half an hour the keypad goes to sleep and the camera does everything it is supposed to. However, the Keypad doesn't wake up when keys are pressed. I thought it may be a signal issue so i bought a new and stronger modem and router.... no change but my cell has full wifi signal where i installed the Keypad but my Keypad has only a fair signal so then i bought a wifi extender. Now my cell has full wifi signal 3 houses away and my kepad still has a fair signal with the camera still functioning but not the Keypad. It is amazing how much this video Keypad ended up costing me in enhancements in my network to still get the same result of no Keypad functionality.

As stated in many other reviews the battery life is terrible. This needs fixed or they should be including a second battery with purchase. It also does not pick up any movement, even when someone is directly entering and exiting the garage. It can go days without picking anything up. The garage had its own router and network not even 10 feet from the keypad and the video still won’t connect most of the time. Had been looking forward to this and wish it was not too late to return. Keypad is the only thing that works. Very disappointed.

Pathetic wifi signal reception at best.

Such a great concept ruined by corporate greed. Anything other than a strong signal will guarantee poor, slow, video viewing. Thanks to having to go through my Q's servers, the time it takes to view your feed just hangs and hangs and hangs. You literally have to be right next to your router to get a strong signal, which is the only way to consistently view your keypad video. Otherwise, it just hangs and then randomly goes offline. The battery life is decent, but the purpose is to view the camera. Myq failed with this one. Don't waste your money.

No, I do not recommend this product.

If you're still having issues, please get in touch with us at support.chamberlaingroup.com Should these settings already be in place, or you need further help, have any comments, concerns or questions, please email us at social@chamberlain.com and include this review, so we can get in contact with you to resolve the issue. Questionable so far ?

Can it not ope.close the garage door remotely through the smartphone App ? I haven’t been able to see that feature yet. Bought two of these but will likely have to return them Without remote function. Secondly, it just does. It connect to the WiFi. Supposed to be mountains outside the home on the garage door wall and is just not able to consistently stay connected to the WiFi. Manual simply says make sure your WiFi signal is strong. Now I have to install signal booster to make the signal strong outside the house ? That’s somewhat ridiculous

No, I do not recommend this product.

Great device, needs a few improvements!

I want to like this device, but for some reason it's lacking with wifi signal, I put my wifi mesh switch in the garage just few feet away from the keypad and it still states the signal is weak, however if I got outside to the end of the block, I still have a strong signal on my cell phone... Half the time I cannot even open the app to see a live view what's going on real time without it saying having trouble connecting or try again. Very frustrating... Also I think it should have integration with Ring doorbell like the MyQ Garage door itself, as well as having a motion configuration grid to configure what areas you want to trigger an alert of motion. I think it's a nice device, but needs some attention to make the product truly worth while!

Great product, poor battery life.

I love the product but I hate the battery life. If you use your garage door several times a day you will have to change or charge the battery every 7-10 days. You cannot turn off motion detecting to help save battery life and setting the sensitivity to the lowest settings does not help. They advertise as "Keep your eyes on your real front door," well if your garage is used as much as your front door then they really need to do something about the battery life. Sorry but I cannot recommend this product until they do something about the battery.

No, I do not recommend this product.

MyQ Video Keypad.

I am please to have a video camera on my detached garage door. I can see who is out there and have the ability to assign codes to whoever may need it. There is only one drawback. The battery life is way too short (about 10 days and not the 90 days I have seen advertised) before I have to take it out and recharge it for a half a day taking the keypad/camera offline that long. It should be sold with two batteries or wired for power. At the very least offer a second battery at a much reduced cost, Otherwise, I would have given it a 5 star rating

Yes, I recommend this product.

Hi Gino, thank you for your review and feedback on the myQ Video Keypad and battery. I am sorry to hear of your experience and to see that this product did not meet your expectations. Should you need further help, please email us at social@chamberlain.com and include this review, so we can get in contact with you to resolve the issue. Thank you!

Good Idea, Bad Design

This product is as bad as the door opener is good. The battery life is not great. There is no port on the unit in which to charge it. Meaning you have to remove the unit, remove the battery. Allow it to charge (usually a full day) then re-install battery and unit. That is a bad design. At minimum have a charging port on the outside of the unit where the entire thing doesn’t have to be removed. Or have a solar option to plug in. In addition, this is basically useless unless you buy the video service along with it. There is no access to what motion is detected without the video unless the person stands there to speak with you through the unit. This was a bad, expensive purchase for what it offers. I would not recommend and would not purchase again.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Looks Great, Battery Life-Not Good

Looks great, works as expected, easy to connect to my MyQ garage door opener. Set detection on camera to lowest setting, battery only lasted a few weeks, used keypad to open door three times during that timeframe. Already pay for MyQ subscription for door opener, now I have to pay a second price for the keypad? Keypad could use a hardwaire option like garage door opener. Should be able to link same subscription to the two devices as thye control the same door opener with option to pay a little more to add a keypad opposed to paying twice.

No, I do not recommend this product.

What Battery?

I purchased the keypad in October but didn’t get to install it at our lake house until December. Great easy install and full WiFi signal at the unit. One week later, after a 6 hour charge of the battery it took to get the LED to go from red to green, I got a notification 4 days hater that the battery power was < 30%. It was dead 2 days later. I called Chamberlin and they sent me a new battery. Once again after a 7 hour charge, I replaced the original battery. Just got a notification, after installing it less than a week ago, it has 28% battery life left. Ridiculous! Now I’ve been told they are working on a firmware update that should resolve the problem? Why are they selling the device knowing you’re going to have to replace the battery every week?

No, I do not recommend this product.

It could be so much better!

The battery life is short. I have a ring video doorbell that captures multiple videos throughout the day unlike the MyQ garage door video keypad which rarely captures a video unless you are directly in front of it. Also, the charging time is 8 to 10 hours regardless of the life left in it. I’m completely paranoid and still keep my garage opener. They came with my unit because I don’t have 100% faith in it nor do I want to get locked out of my house. Let’s just say when it works it’s great but when it doesn’t, I have buyers remorse.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Very nice design, but insuffient battery life.

Nice design, good performance, but the issue of life of rechargeable battery is real. I believe this can be "salvaged" by Chamberlain designing a modified back that could be 120v powered. Additionally, the small access screw for swapping a battery is troublesome and subject to loss. The actual video performance is quite nice. But video-to-wifi consumes a lot of power. The battery pack is not sufficient for the power consumption. Again, I'd like to see Chamberlain offer a retrofitable-back that could be routed to a power supply.

No, I do not recommend this product.
