Handles well.
Used the 20" electric hedge trimmer for several days immediately after purchase. Cuts smoothly even through thick Virginia Creeper vines, but did not test on the full 3/4" rating. I purchased the 20" rather than a longer one for lighter weight and ease of handling for which it turned out to be superior. Love the thumb trigger on this one for safety; my older trimmer would start almost every time I touched it. Only complaint is the useless saw blade; in sweeping with a counterclockwise motion, twigs normally easy to cut get jammed on the inside space between the fixed blade guard and the last cutting tooth. The fixed blade guard should be sharpened on the trimmer side to enable the last cutting tooth to cut.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Motor Housing Melts Causing Non-operation
a year ago
This trimmer worked fairly well for the amount of time it worked before failure. The blades eventually quit working with motor spinning. Before spending cash on a new one decided to tear apart. Found Black & Decker decided to not reinforce the housing where the rive sprocket meets the housing and also where the drive motor seats into guide at the rear of the blade assembly. Operation creates enough heat to melt the housing in these two areas causing the drive gear to become sloppy and the end of the drive motor shaft will dislodge from the guide hole at the end of the blade. Obviously engineered to fail with any extended use. Almost bough another Black & Decker trimmer based upon online reviews, but glad I did not. More research is required to find a replacement since I can't find housing parts for this one.

Long blade, cuts well, occasional oiling helps
2 years ago
I've been using this hedge trimmer for about 3 years now, I push it quite hard by cutting bougainvillea branches, sometimes thicker than recommended; hedges, vines, seagrape tree branches etc. Once you use it enough you get an idea of what it can handle and what it can't.
I do agree with others that the sawblade is useless.
This week I was using the trimmer and noticed it sounded slower and the blade wasn't moving as fast, in the past I would put some wd40 or 3 in 1 oil on the teeth to help clean up tree sap residue and some lubrication. This time I sprayed the WD40 and tilted the saw up, all of a sudden it came back to life full speed. My guess is the internal mechanism that moves the blade needed some help, I will probably take off the case and check it out. Not recommending for others to try it but it worked for me. :/

Works tirelessly and saws down the thicker shrubs.
Bought this two days ago to get rid of sprawling/heightening shrubs. Area about 140 ft. x 15 ft. I was concerned about the large tough area so I oiled the blades and went to work. No problem !!! With the 3/4" opening this unit worked great !!! Shrubs, thorn bushes and popular trees that had sprouted were no problem for this unit. The saw feature actually worked so I didn't have to get another saw out to do the job.

Great trimmer
Bought this trimmer to cut down vines and bushes. Very strong motor. Did a great job. Saved me significant time by not jamming once. Cut thick branches that my old trimmer would never have cut. The saw blade really was of little value. Takes too long to cut using the saw blade. As this trimmer is more powerful, it helps to cut stronger branches.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Does the job
With shrubs and bushes getting out of hand, it was time to upgrade from hand clippers. This was a good decision for both price and features. The power and ease of use were better than expected. The saw tip was a little bit of a challenge to get used and would not include that as a pitfall.
Looking forward to a serviceable life.

Black and Decker never disappoints!

We love our Black and Decker 20" saw tooth Electric Hedge Trimmer. Our second Black and Decker Trimmer and we will be another if necessary. Light weight, the mini-saw on the end makes trimming much easier. We would have loved an electric 22" with the saw blade, but we are very happy with the one we bought.

HEDGE TRIMMER WITH LONG BLADE IS GREAT
This trimmer cuts the trimming time in half compared with a 16" B+D trimmer. It is able to cut bigger branches of about 3/4" diameter without using the sawblade. The sawblade is able to saw up to 1.5" diameter but it takes a long time to do the cut. Overall, a nice improvement over the previous product.
