Trimmer 40v Max Trimmer 140
I was so excited yesterday when I picked up my new trimmer and used it today! It did everything that it was meant to do wonderfully! Then……I plugged it in to recharge! Either the charger is bad mor the battery! I had my old battery and charger from an older B&D trimmer and my battery was already charge on the old charger. Unfortunately the new charger was still not charged for me to trim the rest of my lawn. I’m really disappointed with that cheap charger!! You guys should go back to the former one! I even put That charger in another receptacle thinking the first one didn’t have enough juice to do it. It was plugged into the first one for 3 hours and it kept blinking green. When I used the other receptacle, it started blinking green and then it had a red light on. I can’t recommend the product when unit has a cheaply charger that doesn’t work! Otherwise I love the product! Disappointedly, Double Decker

Great product and surprising it was even better
3 years ago
This great string trimmer was even better than my old 36volt Black and Decker. I gave my 36volt to my daughter and purchased the 40V MAX Lithium String Trimmer for myself. Its the best trimmer I've ever owned and I found the quick change drop in spools a breeze as well. The power is incredible and battery last for my entire areas use without a recharge.

Just what I needed!
I have a large farm but not able to easily use a gas trimmer, I find them too hard to start. I tried a cordless Ryobi and it was great but I found it too heavy. At my age the weight is an issue. This trimmer is perfect! Easy to pack around!
One downside is battery time is not very long... upside is I get frequent breaks! Lol

Second one I've purchased
I purchased one of these a few years ago and liked it. This newer model has a pivoting handle which will not stay in place. As I'm weed trimming it slips from the position I have it set in. I think it may be a little shorter than the previous model too. If they would re-do the handle design I would recommend it to a friend.

awesome trimmer
I've been using this model black and decker string trimmer for the last six years this is the only trimmer I've found that is comfortable to use since I'm only 5 feet tall the other brands are too long and this one can be adjusted down to accommodate my height. It has lots of power to cut through tall grass and weeds

Lightweight & Effective
I am a senior female & struggled with heavier units but this trmmer is light weight & powerful. The battery lasts long enough for me to trim my 90x150 yard with power to spare. Love the edger function. Just hold the unit at an angle and rest the guard on the driveway etc. & drag it along. Very clean, neat job!

Not as good as LST136 type 2
Speed does not adjust and unit seems to run only at high power level which results in a short battery life. Charger takes a long time to charge so you will want to buy an extra battery. Old LST136 was as near to perfect a tool as I have ever had. LST140, unfortunately, is a huge disappointment.

Tough trimmer that’s light & long-lived
I’ve been using one of these for 5 years and it rips through tall weeds like butter. I use it for trimming grass on a steep slope and for cutting down a meadow. It cuts nearly as well as my friend’s gas trimmer but is much lighter & easier to use, plus no engine to maintain. I recommend this.

Boo. Line breaks and hurts me.
I've had this for a year. The battery is very slow to charge and only lasts twenty minutes. That's not the worst part though. The string has started coming out too far, breaking off and hitting me. It breaks the skin and leaves a welt through my work pants! It is so painful and dangerous.

Exactly what I was looking for!

This product has many benefits---light-in-weight, well balanced, sufficient power as well as long-lasting battery, battery-strength indicator, automatic line feed, and it is convenient due to being cordless and the adjustable shaft helps with storage and carrying in the trunk of a car.

Never going back!

Have used a gas trimmer over the years, I finally made the switch to this bad boy! I suspect that this trimmer spells doom for gas trimmer in typical home situations. It is far more convenient for trimming and edging. It literally replace both my gas trimmer and edger! #loveit

Best Trimmers I've Used
I loved my first 20V Black and Decker trimmer, and tried many other brands as battery power increased and I came across sales. Not worth it to get another brand - some were so awkward and heavy to use! I now stick to the Black and Decker trimmers (now 40V) for all my trimming.

Great Power Tool
I have had this string trimmer for about a year and love it. The 40 volt battery is great. It lets me do the whole yard before a recharge. I do have to recharge it to edge trim my sidewalk but I let it go so there is a lot to trim but it handles it.
Yes, I recommend this product.

EXCELLENT choice to replace my gas/oil trimmer. Relative showed me his. Lightweight, compact, and quiet!!! Have a bad back. This is so light, it’s just great. Replacement spools are very affordable and easy to replace. Should have done this long ago.

One of the Best Cordless String Trimmers Should...
it be your first purchase for gearing up and getting the job done in your yard!
For a long time I had a to connect my trimmer to wire cords and I could never get my yard tasks completed because of the entire area I had to cover - too many feet to trim aand mu cords could never reach the end of the terrain. It was too much punishment seeing my neighbours with their cordless trimmers on hot summer days, breezing through their yardwork in a half the time it took me.
The BIG plus about this Black & Decker trimmer is the lithium 40v battery with charge indicator; fast charging, lightweight, and non pollutant (compared to gas controlled string trimmers) and an excellent BONUS feature is the spool's automatic line feed. Easy, fast charging lithium battery(ies) that easily operate(s) for hours on just one charge.
There are many advantages to this excellent tool - it is a trimmer AND can be used as an edger as well! I truly recommend this highly productive B&D 40V Lithium Trimmer for all who are prepared to have an easy & cool summer!
Yes, I recommend this product.

We bought this trimmer a little while ago and it has held up great. So easy to charge the battery and the best part is that it is lightweight and easy for my 12 year old son to use while learning to use lawn care tools. Thanks Black and Decker!

Black and Decker 40 Volt Trimmer

This trimmer replaced a 20 volt that lasted for more than 10 years. The 40 volt definitely produces more torque and cuts the time to trim our yard almost in half. I love it and am considering getting another for backup🙂.

and much lighter than my gas trimmer

Motor Melted -- Trimmer Ruined!!
Wife went to use the trimmer this week, yelled that it smelled bad and was smoking! This after about 15 minutes of work. I came out found the head too hot to touch, and the upper vents were deformed from heat. I removed screws holding the head together, found that the motor got so hot that the mounting framework inside the head was melted and deformed. Also looked inside the vents of the motor itself, can see melted white plastic. The thing is RUINED. I cannot turn the motor by hand. It's melted so bad that the gears of the motor and trimmer head don't even come together anymore -- see picture. This trimmer isn't two years old!! It was manufactured in 2022 (see picture) -- and I bought it for Christmas 2022, so it was used for summer of '23 and has died by end of July 2024! This is the second problem I had with this trimmer -- the first being that the battery would not charge after one season of use. Many people have reported this problem with the battery. B&D sent me a replacement battery (thank you very much, B&D!) But this failure is catastrophic. It cannot be repaired without a total head replacement.
